SteveMorison 404 July 25, 2016 Share July 25, 2016 Did anyone get the sense that the Islands of Personality might have been at least partly inspired by the personalities of the mane 6? Honesty Island - Applejack, it's her element for crying out loud Goofball Island - Pinkie Pie Hockey Island - Rainbow Dash, Hockey representing the tomboyishness or athlete in Riley Friendship Island - Twilight, she is the Princess of Friendship. Could apply to the whole cast as friendship is the main theme of the series Family Island - Applejack again I suppose, though could represent the togetherness of the Mane 6 3 of the Islands, Honesty, Goofball and Friendship, seem to almost directly derive from the elements of Honesty, Laughter and Magic(of friendship). Also remember at the end of the film among other islands there is a fashion island, which of course we could connect to Rarity. Probably all just coincidence, but still fun to think about.

cmarston1 5,959 July 25, 2016 Share July 25, 2016 I don't really think that the movie had any inspiration from MLP FIM at all.
Jeric 46,850 July 25, 2016 Share July 25, 2016 I don't really think that the movie had any inspiration from MLP FIM at all. Agreed. If there was any inspiration derived from another media property, it would likely have been Herman's Head, not MLP.
Dreambiscuit 9,556 July 29, 2016 Share July 29, 2016 Since the different islands were based on different aspects of Riley's personality, just as the ponies are based on different aspects of personality, I don't think it was inspired by MLP. It's just another story using common elements of life. Things like Family, Friendship, Honesty (and even Goofball) are elements that could fit into any story about anybody. I do like the comparisons though. It is entertaining to think about.

Ankha 35 July 31, 2016 Share July 31, 2016 According to this, all of them must be quite closely related: Inside Out was an exact carbon copy of MLP. It's an exact carbon copy after all.
cider float 2,537 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 (edited) I think this is a bit of a stretch. There is a indie 3D cartoon made that was made before Inside Out though. Inside Out on the other hand seems to resemble this cartoon too much. And then there's an even older version of it.
