movies/tv Indiana Jones 4 - A perspective

I would bring Rainbow Dash and force her to watch all 3 Indiana Jones movies (the 4th one doesn't count). If she likes Daring Do, then she would love Indiana Jones. Or I could take her to a sports game.

I could also bring Twilight and take her to a museum so she could learn all about our world.

How does the 4th one not count? Sorry, I don't watch Indiana Jones so yeah. Oh, and Rainbow Dash at a sports game... Oh boy, she'd win the competition like it was nothing. Twilight and museums go hand in hand.

The 4th one is generally the least-liked. Some fans swear by the original trilogy and nothing else. :P

Well, that's because the 4th movie was complete garbage. The story was stupid, the villains were lame, the fight scenes were lacking, it relied on terrible CGI almost as much as the Star Wars prequels did (even though Spielberg promised they would use as little CGI as possible), there was some shit about aliens, there was a scene where Indy survives a nuke by hiding in a refrigerator (really?), and... Shia Labeouf. Indiana Jones fans don't like to speak of the 4th movie.

Let's hope you don't bring her here while she is with discord.

OK, CGI I can deal with as long as there's not too much of it (to be honest I would expect a fair amount of CGI in adventure movies like Indiana Jones), Aliens, I can deal with as long as It's done right, but SURVIVING A NUKE IN A REFRIGERATOR? That's where I draw the line.

Yes, Indiana Jones is known for its special effects and CGI would be expected, but the series is also known for it's practical effects. There were almost no noticeable practical effects in the 4th movie and the CGI was, like I said before, Star Wars prequels level bad quality. It actually really suffered from the same stuff the Star Wars prequels suffered from, which was no coincidence because George Lucas played a big part in the production.

Woah woah woah, I can't sit by quietly anymore. Maybe the 4th Indiana Jones wasn't quite on par with the first 3, but it was still good. Now you're insulting Star Wars too? The prequels are far better than the original 3 could ever hope to be. Sorry if this is off topic but I can't just stand by and watch great movies get trash talked.

Trust me, I love the Star Wars prequels. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan. I just can't deny that they weren't very good movies, but they had redeeming qualities that still made them lovable. The difference between those and the 4th Indiana Jones is that the Star Wars prequels introduces almost a whole new universe of lore and stories to immerse yourself in. The movies weren't very good, but they had some redeeming elements like cool action pieces, and cool characters with cool actors *cough Ewan Mcgregor cough*, and interesting story arcs. The 4th Indiana Jones didn't have those things. It was just... stale. It just played off of the old movies, and where it tried to be original, it fell short. The only actors from the 4th Indiana Jones that I like were Harrison Ford and John Hurt. The action pieces seemed out of place and almost too ambitious, the villains were sort of boring, and the new characters weren't memorable. Basically the 4th Indiana Jones suffered from the same things the Star Wars prequels suffered from, but didn't have the redeeming qualities they had. Also don't get the idea I don't appreciate Indiana Jones. It is my #1 favorite series of all time. Indiana Jones is my childhood hero. Maybe that's why I was so picky about the 4th film. It didn't live up to the standards set by the first 3.

I see. Now that I think back, I have fully watched one Indiana Jones movie, but I don't remember much about it. It was on a pirate disc given to me by a friend (He had it pirated since it was still in cinemas at the time, I think. I don't condone piracy myself). I think it was called Indiana Jones and The Legend Of The Crystal Skull or something like that. Other than that, I've seen short clips of other movies on TV, and have heard of the famous running away from a giant boulder scene.

Sorry, I hate to be "that" guy but... I really don't like the Star Wars prequels. You can pretty much take everything El Duderino said about Indiana Jones 4 and apply it to the Star Wars prequels. (Apart from the refrigerator thing.) Though, if you like them, more power to you.

You know, you'd make a really good reviewer. I should also mention that being a fan of the older movies in a series can affect your opinion of newer movies. Just like you don't like Indiana Jones 4, I don't like the SW prequels.

I'll admit that's possibly why I'm so harsh on the 4th Indiana Jones movie.  I also am into film making as a hobby, so not a lot slips by me when I watch a movie. I'm sure the 4th Indy movie would be a little more likable for someone who isn't a big fan of the originals and isn't so observant of all the small things.

To say Indiana Jones fans don't like to speak of the fourth movie is assuming a lot. I'm an Indiana Jones fan and I love the fourth movie with a passion. Scenes like Indy surviving a nuke in a refrigerator is not supposed to be scientifically infallible. It's supposed to be fun. Indy movies are supposed to be like comic books and the serials of the '30s. They're not meant to be scrutinized in that kind of way. In Temple of Doom, when Indy's mine car flies off the tracks only to land perfectly on the another set of tracks on the other side of a wide gap, it's not supposed to be believable, just fun in the same way the fridge is supposed to be.

I have been a fan of Indy my whole life. I know them right down to the most minute detail, but I look at all the movies on their own terms and not according to what I saw or expected from the previous ones. Nothing can hold up when compared against such classics as Raiders of the Lost Ark, and they don't need to. They're all good in their own unique ways, and in their own ways, they're all perfect.

As far as the use of CGI, I prefer the traditional means of special effects and practical effects, but I won't tip a movie into the nearest waste bin because of it unless I intend to do the same with every movie made since Jurassic Park. It's the way movies are made these days. It just goes with the territory. The Star Wars prequels may have used a lot of CGI, but just compare them with The Force Awakens, which promised more practical effects and didn't deliver. It's just the movie industry being the movie industry.

All this having been said, I hope this doesn't come off as too combative. I get passionate about my favorite subjects but I never mean it nasty.

Well, there are two types hardcore of fans for everything. The fans that suck up everything they can get and love it no matter what, and the fans who hold the franchise up to such high standards that they are hard to please. I guess with Indiana Jones I fall into the latter category. Indiana Jones is my favorite movie franchise and Indy is my childhood hero. I will admit I might hold the series to too high standards. I respect that you like the 4th movie. I just can't get passed how disappointing I was with it from the start. They are making a 5th movie soon. Hopefully I will enjoy that one more.
