Mirror Universe episode in Season 3

Discord is about to break lose. The only way to prevent this if for the mane six to split up and search for the six segments of the Key to Time. They'll think Celestia sent them on the quest, but Twilight will figure out it was really the White Guardian, sometimes called the Guardian of Light and Time. It will then be revealed that Discord is The Black Guardian, also known as the Guardian of Darkness and Chaos! Doctor Whooves and Derpy could play a critical role in helping reset the balance in Equestria!

This isn't official, just pure speculation. Anyways, here goes.

As you know, the characters in MLP are extremely in-depth and each are their own characters with their own individual strengths and weaknesses, and together, they embody the most powerful "weapon" in all of Equestria - harmony!

However, what about in some alternate reality, where everybody is the complete opposite of who they are, and Celestia's rule is a complete tyranny? No, I'm not talking about the characters being Discord'd, but rather, everything isn't in "chaos" like in the Return of Harmony. And a couple of the Mane 6 somehow swap "places" with their Mirror Universe counterparts, ala Star Trek? They would be forced to try to get back, try to take up their counterparts' lives, and serve under a perhaps evil Celestia. Again, not Discord'd. A completely different universe where tyranny and corruption are dominant instead of harmony.

For example, Twilight and Rarity get sucked into the "alternate universe" (we'll call it AU) and swap places with the AU counterparts after one of Twilight's spellcastings goes horribly wrong. Upon landing in the AU, they are shocked to see what the AU Equestria is like - full of malcontent and malicious ponies all serving under a tyrannical Princess, or should we say "Queen". In the meanwhile, the AU Twilight and Rarity find themselves in the "regular" Equestria where they start causing trouble, much to the confusion of the rest of the regular Mane 6... and you might know how the rest goes.

Talk about it here.

Sounds a little dark for MLP.......but it could work.

While the presented concept in the original post may be a bit too dark for Hasbro to endorse--this is the same Hasbro that insisted that Celestia be a Princess instead of a Queen, after all--the basic concept is solid and absolutely perfect for an episode. I believe any mirror universe episode would have to go down a slightly different path...mostly because I'm not sure that Hasbro would ever approve of an evil Celestia. It may be you would have to approach it instead as the land being ruled by Nightmare Moon, with the evil Mane Six serving as her most trusted and loyal minions. In such a universe, Princess Celestia might be imprisoned somewhere, and our Mane Six may have to try to free her to help bring peace and harmony to this mirror Equestria.

Or maybe they would learn to leave certain things alone, since it's not really "their" world.

So? The Mane Six, being the ponies they are, would not want to leave a world suffering if they could help it. What kind of lesson would that teach anyway? "If you don't live there, you don't have to care about their suffering!" That's a terrible lessson to teach to kids and not one I want to see on this show.

Maybe they get teleported into Discord's dreamworld where he spends his time stuck in stone?

That wouldn't be a pretty sight. Nothing would make sense. But what fun is sense? ;)

You know, you're right. My bad. However, it's kind of "cool" to think that somewhere out there, an "evil" Equestria is present which greatly contrasts with the "regular" Equestria.

It is quite the cool concept. Again, it's one I wouldn't mind the show exploring, especially since it'd mean alternate universes are canon on the show.

But the show would have to be careful with how it approached the concept. That's why I offer up Nightmare Moon as an acceptable alternative to an evil Celestia. Although evil Celestia has some potential when it comes to character conflict. Imagine how Twilight would react to an evil Celestia, how hard it would be for her to try to even defend herself against an evil Celestia since she wouldn't believe her mom Princess would ever act that way.

Darkwing Duck did it. They had the Negaverse and Negaduck! The episode was brilliantly titled...

"Life, the Negaverse, and Everything"
