Octavia_Melody2 187 September 30, 2016 Share September 30, 2016 Not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but it seems to me that the recent trend in critically acclaimed shows is to take an established movie genre or theme and make a dark and lurid arc-driven series out of it. Following that trend, here are my predictions for the next ten years of television. Game of Thrones (in space - possibly based off C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy) Game of Thrones (steampunk edition) Game of Thrones (cyberpunk edition) Game of Thrones (Napoleonic edition) Discworld - The Series Doctor Who: Doctors 15 through 20 - (with a female and/or African Doctor) American series attempt at J-Horror (The Ring, The Grudge, etc.) Star Wars (bounty hunter based series) Alien - The Series
Dreambiscuit 11,336 October 3, 2016 Share October 3, 2016 (edited) Yeah, it seems to be heading in that direction. Taking pre-established movies and shows and darking them down seems to be a trend that won't go away for a while. The up side to some of it is that some movie franchises that truly deserve to continue and aren't likely to see a sequel will have a place to go. I would not be surprised to see a live action Star Wars series based on bounty hunters (or anything else for that matter). I'm sure Disney has not overlooked any possibility when it comes to expanding their profits in every way imaginable. I just hope that if they do, they'll keep the light touch needed to make it feel like Star Wars and not something else entirely. Alien would also make a cool series since it's already pretty dark anyway. They just need to make their characters interesting and not just the same crowd that seems to populate most TV shows nowadays. The one thing I don't want is for any good series to be treated like an easy cash-in on a known title and made poorly by indifferent producers. cmarston1 5,964 October 3, 2016 Share October 3, 2016 I don't really think that any of those ideas sound very likely to happen in the near future if at all.
