gaming Simple, yet awesome gaming features for their time

As gaming has evolved over the years, so many new ideas and concepts have been introduced and with those ideas, new features have been implemented into games over the years. Some of these are huge advancements for the industry while others are more simple, but still a move forward.

So we shall discuss that! What are some gaming features that seem simple now but were pretty cool for their time?

I am not sure if this one counts but I honestly thought it was awesome back in the day. In Driver, you had the ability to look side to side AND look behind you all while driving at high speeds outrunning cops. That is such a simple feature that is commonplace now but it was really cool then.

The wall jump from Megaman X, soooo many possibilities with level design for Megaman games

Would eventually become a staple

Even tough nowadays it can be pretty backtracking, the temperature key card in Metal Gear Solid 1 was pretty good. The idea having to use the same card in 3 different temperatures(Normal, cold, heat) was cool back then^^

Actually, it was used first in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake on the MSX. In fact, I've read many features in that game were reused in MGS

Parkour in Infamous series. Displacement to a point A to point B hardly feels as smooth and quick. Seriously, you can go straight from point A to point B in virtually any place

Considering it didn't leave Jap at the time, it's no surprise :dash:. Our exposure to Metal Gear pre-Solid 1 where the crappy NES port of Metal Gear, and Snake's Revenge (more shitty than the former). The real MSX Metal Gear and MG2: Solid Snake weren't legally available until they were bundled with MGS3: Subsistence I think

Well, Metal Gear came out outside but MG2 only with MGS3 Substance

Yeah, the original MSX version Metal Gear never came out until Subsistence, I can't think of any version of that game that came out in the west. I'm sure Konami wants to forget about the NES port. Even the Wii's VC eventually got the MSX version instead of the NES version(unfortunately it's Japan only)
