If G5 is CGI, I don't think that would necessarily ruin it. As long as it's done well, I don't think it matters.

It depends.  If done right it can can be pretty good, G4 is after all computer generated already.  The problem is when it is is used as a time (therefore cost) reducing measure.  Many formerly traditionally animated cartoons that have been remade and gone down that road look cheap, feel cheap, and lack any of the charm of their predecessors.

If it is at least done in the style of Filly Funtasia, then I would not mind it to be honest. That show actually does CG pretty well for a show like this. Some may disagree with that but I think it would work well. I didn't really think CG like that could work for something like this.

I can imagine a MLP CGI 3D movie to be okay to watch if done right. Though I do need an exact teaser of that to get a feeling of it.

Technically, the show is animated using Flash, a computer program, that takes a long time to use and even master, so we're already used to seeing CGI in MLP. If it were proper CGI that we see in certain cartoons, it would need to be done extremely well so that MLP could flourish under it and not have it seen as a detriment.

Like everything to do with animation, it's all down to the skill, talent, and efforts of the various artists. The character designers, the modelers, the texture artists, and the animators themselves. Pretty much anything can look good if done right.

Regardless of the animation medium, I still want the story and characters to stand out just like in G4 because that's the most essential part of the show. I wouldn't mind 3D but it has to look pretty good not something out of 1998.
