So hopefully this is an ok place to post it. Not sure yet. If not it'll get moved or locked. So anyways. .

I'm in an art slump. I have been so stressed of getting a job and moving among other things that I cannot for the life of me draw anything right now. I want to create a new oc but nothing is coming to mind. What do you guys do when it comes to artist block

Artist blocks are sure annoying. For me, they can block me for months! Quite annoying when I know that I can finish an art in a span of few hours, but the laziness and lack of inspiration just don't go away. All I do is wait for the right mood to come. But the ideal thing is, depending what your art is, story, drawing, anything, the best solution is to browse similar things on the internet. If you want to make an OC, why not try looking through some already created OCs and images of them, because at the end of the day, inspiration is only when your mind "remembers" a similar thing that you already saw before and compile it in one new thing ^_^

What I'm saying is you can't create something new, only use bits and pieces of already existing stuff and mix it into something "new". So, the best way to be able to create those "mixes" is to have as much of source material as possible ^_^

I could suggest the way I used to create my oc, by creating one key point and building the character around. For example, I firstly created the cutie mark and built up the character around. How would the pony with such cutie mark look? What would his story be like? Stuff like that. It may not be the cutie mark, but an event in a backstory, or just the pony appearance.

I gotcha. Sorry I'm pretty tired so I'm kinda suckling with words right now. Maybe I could try to draw my favorite pony for now and get back to being in the hang out drawing too?

Sure, skills require practice in order to remain good, otherwise, you get rusty. Otherwise, I understand that sometimes you want to create something but can't quite start. The blank page/canvas syndrome xD. You just need that extra push in order to get started create stuff. Perhaps a randomiser would help? Like, for example, this one

I usually don't think about it at all. Inspiration(s) just comes and go and it should speak for itself.

I get that kind of blocks with programming, which is my primary interest. It is very difficult to start when other things are bringing you down. Programming is kinda like starting homework, but doing art might be similar, if you are aiming high. Instead, just draw the simplest sketches, since they help you to develop your art skills!

Blocking is what your brain does when you are tired.

Someone is continually nagging at you...what do you do... block

You kept on drawing for 8 hours what does your brain do? It literally blocks your system and you faint.

A topic of your teacher is- insta block!
