The biggest problem with the EG series

The "magic" is used as a lazy plot device. There's no explanation of it just that it's...there... and it's glorified for some reason. It's used as a cheap and easy way to provide an opposing force.

At least the regular show actually does some interesting things with it. It's just cringy here.

Meh, most of the time I don't actually think this is a big problem. The majority of episodes are just slice of life where magic is present, but not a big deal. Same thing with a lot of the adventure episodes, most of the time the magic is just used in basic ways, like telekinesis, lasers and shields, and doesn't really affect the plot much.

We've had a few instances where they've gone a bit more complex with it, with things like combining spells, or creating new ones. It'd be kind of nice to have some more concrete rules set up to understand these things better, sure. But I don't think it's by any means the biggest problem with the show, since most of the time it doesn't affect much.

I'm talking about the Equestria Girls series

But Friendship is the whole point of the show.

Sigh, I also didn't note the Equestria Girls thing.

In that case the genie has been let out of the bottle.  More magic keeps flowing into the EQGworld and the results are plain.  It also seems to have started to activate their version of the EoH with those gemstones.  They get much more magic and that tree will be alive again.

I would say that the biggest problem would be that there isn't enough time in the a little over an hour format to get everything done that the writers want.

The first EQG movie really could have benefited from having a longer runtime in order to elaborate on some things, such as explaining what happens to the elements of harmony in another world, having Twilight interact with more of the student body and make her winning over them more of a challenge, maybe even giving Flash Sentry some more characterization.

Friendship Games also would have improved if it had an extra 10 - 20 minutes added to it.

The Shadowbolts really needed to have some more screentime in order to have stronger characterization and leave a bigger impact.

Sunset's dropped homesick subplot would have really helped make the movie even better than it already was.

Well, I should probably check which part of the forum threads are in then, because I keep forgetting to do that, and since EG wasn't in the original title or first post, I never noticed. Bad habit on my part.

Anyway, I can agree a little bit more with you in that case, but still not entirely. The magic was brought over from Equestria when the sirens were dumped into this world, and then again when Sunset brought the crown along with her. Since the human world doesn't naturally have magic and humans don't know how to use it, it can be much more corruptive than usual. Twilight, the humane 5 and Sunset can bring out their magic when showing the truest part of themselves, which can be brought out in multiple ways.

As for the stuff in Legend of Everfree, like the super powers and necklaces...That doesn't have an explanation, but that stuff is so specific, I imagine there will be at least somewhat of an explanation for it later.
