Kodiak 431 November 28, 2011 Share November 28, 2011 (edited) Evenin' everypony. I was going through a few PMVs tonight, and I started thinking, "Maybe someone would be more open towards the show through this rather than spend 22 minutes." So, what do you guys think, PMV vs. Full Episode; advantages and disadvantages. Zoop 8,384 November 28, 2011 Share November 28, 2011 I always start out with PMVs to gauge people's reactions. They're short, so there isn't much of an initial time investment, but at the same time they can give people a decent idea as to what to expect from the show. Treat it like a drug; start them off with a little taste, something to get them going, before moving them on to the harder stuff.
why 20 November 28, 2011 Share November 28, 2011 I'd perfer Regular Episodes, Because there way longer! and no one likes short or small movies or episodes of there favorite show!
Swoop 2,278 November 28, 2011 Share November 28, 2011 (edited) PMV's are a good choice, as many videos are able to successfully parallel aspects of MLP with different forms of media that aren't as 'shocking' and upfront as plain old ponies, so to speak, so you can avoid the typical 'my manhood is being questioned, therefore this is gay' reaction. For example, I've used Shiropoint's PMV "Race like Rainbow Dash" to introduce one of my mates to the show. Sure, some may call this an inaccurate representation of the show, but as zoop said, It's only a small taste to help reel them in, without scaring them off. Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 28, 2011 Share November 28, 2011 I would definitely say PMVs. Trying to force somebody to watch 22 minutes of a show is not the best thing. I for one became a brony after watching this PMV: It's better they see the animation and characters without having to watch the entire thing. LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fghik 360 November 28, 2011 Share November 28, 2011 (edited) I haven't done much "converting." My public 'brony'-ness is limited to those who are also 'bronies' (or just general fans of the show.) But there are some pretty neat PMVs out there. That's how I bumped into the series. "What's a pony doing in this music video...?" were my thoughts. And now... I'm seeing Double Rainbows. Edited November 28, 2011 by Fghik But what do I know? Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 a poll I'm surprised so many voted episode. It's very unlikely someone is gonna want to sit through 22 minutes of a show they may already think of as "girly". If you show them a good PMV that has all the action and characters they may get interest and will then want to watch the episodes on their own LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. 83awsm 234 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 PMV definitely seems like the way to go when trying to introduce the show to someone who is skeptical, but personally I watched the 1st episode without ever seeing a PMV and was hooked. I guess it’s just depends on how open the person is about enjoying a show that they don’t think will impress them. Awesomeness = at least 20% Cooler. Demi 545 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 Eh, I just watched full on episodes in front of friends. It actually lets them see what exactly it's all about and understand the character personalities. I have still yet to really start getting into PMVs myself, when I start getting bored I just start re-watching season one episodes again.
Authetius 30 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 The way I've always done it is using my Zune (Yes, I use a Zune, I think Ipods are pieces of crap, don't get me started because I don't wish to spend more than 30 mins arguing the obvious dominance of Zunes). I've had dozens of people listening to my Zune each day since like 7th grade, I just share mah music with the world. This year, after becoming an active brony, I just filled it with pony songs and just played those, and refused to let people change the music. For the most part, they just thought it as more of my obscure music and video game junk, so the just listened anyway - then they started to notice the use of pony vocab, at which point I have many people hooked on the music. Music has always been my answer to everything, as I'm extremely good at several instruments and can find music for almost everyone. I enjoy any and all music, so I just change my playlist to one that I know the person with me will enjoy. From there, I move them to PMVs, then episodes. Muahahaha - I has a sig - Muahahaha
Jay6 29 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 Before I knew anything of ponies, I was introduced by just watching a full episode, then another full episode. etc. etc.. I didn't know of any PMVs or anything of the fandom before then, and I got hooked to the show.
Sunnymilk 40 December 18, 2011 Share December 18, 2011 (edited) A PMV is fanmade, doesn't really show you anything about the show. Well, maybe except the amazing artwork. there might tho be a few PMVs out there that can do the trick. really amazing ones can give an idea of what kidn of people the fanbase is built up of. might be enough for some people. But I do believe a full episode is the best way to go. but don't force it or anything. slow mental breakdown seems to work fine in most cases Edited December 18, 2011 by Flutterfry
Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 December 18, 2011 Share December 18, 2011 Well one thing I will not suggest doing is tossing episode 1 on them. I know it kinda makes sense to show them the beginning but in my opinion it is not the best way to introduce them to the show. Of course I'm referring to anyone who says episode > video. ChronoBodi 9 December 21, 2011 Share December 21, 2011 (edited) If there's a good way to do it, take a manly military song like the Marine's Hymn, and make Rainbow Dash look like she's singing it. TomokoKuroki 1,707 December 22, 2011 Share December 22, 2011 I was brought into the show through a PMV, and I think a lot more ponies would come through the PMVs as well. Matching a song well to video can show that the fans create great content, which may dissolve some bad impressions ponies first pick up when they think of fans of MLP. Nah 3,182 December 22, 2011 Share December 22, 2011 sadly, I am not a fan of PMVs, I come from a family that really isn't too big in singing, although I enjoyed the rainbow dash version of your gonna go far kid.
ScottishUnicorn 284 December 22, 2011 Share December 22, 2011 (edited) I'd go with a PMV, if they seem interested enough after that go for a regular episode. *note*Or also perhaps a song from the show rather then a PMV, which ever seems the better idea.
