Are Celestia and Luna Rising The Sun/Moon?

I was wondering, does it seem, that Celestia, rotates their planet towards, then sun, opposed to her actually moving the sun?

It would make more physical sense. The sun will rise regardless, but because ponys are used to Celestia raising it early they will see the sun as rising late.

Now that I think about it, it would be funny to see what would happy if Celestia just decided to sleep in one day, I wonder how the citizens of Equestria would take it.

Don't believe this is the case, because twilight had to "Raise the sun" in Twilight's Kingdom and it moves all over the place as opposed to the planet rotating.

I think there world has much different physics than ours as well.

That's a good point, if their planet was rotating at all then the stars would've moved as well as the sun and moon. Also, In the friendship is magic comic issue 6, we see Luna and Celestia enchanting and using a lasso to pull the moon close so they could cross onto it. So we know they can in fact move celestial bodies with magic. We also know that gravity is suuuuper weird there.

No no. Think about it. If the ponies of Equestria have to do Winter Wrap-Up to make it so Spring arrives, then clearly the laws of science aren't the same for Equestria as they are for Earth.

That's another topic I was going to bring up.

What is they only do so, for their on convenience? Much like the rising of the sun.

I see what you mean...

But, the moon is much smaller than the sun. The moon is also in orbit, around the planet.

It is true that moving the sun around the Earth and the Earth around the sun would appear identical in the sky. Perhaps having to move the moon around the Earth, while moving them both around the sun is why it's so difficult to do, even with powerful magic.

On that note, we technically don't know that the sun is larger than the moon in canon. Gravitationally, it wouldn't make any sense for them to orbit like that. Then again, gravitationally, half of what happens in that sky doesn't make sense already. It appears we have to define some axioms to make any real conclusions.

Part 2 of the pilot.  Celestia is MIA (kidnapped or hiding? You decide) and the sun DOES NOT rise.  This clearly shows they are doing something & not just claiming credit for a natural phenomena that would happen anyway. As to "What happens if Celestia oversleeps?"  Try Celestia Sleeps In by Admiral Biscuit over at Fimfiction.net

I guess you have somewhat of a point.

And to the last part... no, I don't read fanfiction.

Very good point...

But, we can assume, based on the fact that, most all known stars to be much larger than any planet (Especially terrestrial ones), that Celestia's star and planet are no different.
