I know people can have multiple favorites. So give me your favorites for different moods or genres. Like favorite grimdark is one, favorite romance is another, etc.

Favourite Grimdark:  I am guessing from all the ones that I have read, that my favourite would be Rainbow Factory  it is not really as grim as I thought and the atmosphere it creates is very dark (in a not too disturbing way)

Favourite Sadfic: Even though I haven't finished it Background Pony is fairly sad and philosophical, Lyra is a very good philosopher, but the Purple Prose-ing, so much. That is why I stopped reading it.

Favourite ActionFic : I am still reading Fallout:Equestria but it definitely takes the cake. I never thought that a post-apocalyptic story with a magical unicorn as a protagonist would be so touching and realistic.

Favourite Comedy: I was laughing hysterically after I heard Lost Narrator's audio reading of Pinkie Pie Learns A New Word

Enjoyed Fallout: Equestria.

Also A Mighty Demon Slayer Grooms some Ponies. It's Megan from G1 meet G4 ponies and each chapter where Megan groom each ponies well her young sister, Molly groom Fluttershy and Danny groom Pinkie Pie also tell flashback on what happen to G1 world, as it tranfrom to G4 world. Got hook with this story sadly final chapter got seleted and story went Hiatus, in 2013 thinking author would do another but never happen. Got hook on Chapter Danny groom Pinkie as Pinkie remind him as Suprice.

Also enjoyed Doctor Whooves and Assitant.

Been a good many years since I've read any fanfic. Suffice to say I did recently start reading through Fallout Equestria and so far I've really enjoyed it.  Excellent lore and world building, though (unless someone has already done so and I haven't found it yet) it does seem to be in pretty good need of a grammatical revision. I do remember reading through Background Pony when it first began and loved that one as well.

I really got into Piercing the Heavens for a while, but it's sheer length and my own further delving into the fandom has kind of made it stale to me. It's still very well written.

Sensation is a great read, with a sweet but sad love story.

Of the shorter one-or-two-shot style fics, I loved Big Horseshoes, The Darkness In Cider, and Overture. Oh, and The Daddening is hilarious.

Where is my love?  So this is romance au with the shipping of Derpy and Blueblood and got me to love this odd pairing!   I also the questions on Dinky is Derp's mom and a unicorn and who the father is.   It also cast Blueblood in some occness,  yet I like how they write him and his Derpy.   It is one of the few romances I like in Fimfiction!

Magical Mystery Oops:   Twilight Sparkle has spent months researching chaos magic, developing a new spell to unlock magic nopony has ever experienced before. But when something goes wrong with casting, Twilight finds herself turned into a Draconequus and unable to control her new chaos magic. If she ever wants to be a pony again, there is only one who can help her learn to control her new magic.

Of course, learning from Discord was never going to be simple. And after a while, being a draconequus doesn't seem so bad anyway....

-Fallout EG: While I loved Fallout Equestria, I have a major preference towards this one. It doesn't follow the lore if Fallout Equestria, but it's it's own story. Another big difference between the two is that it all happens in the human world, and a mere 7 years after the nuclear attack, so many familiar faces can be seen

My personal favourite would have to be Bittersweet, even though I'm not a fan of the ship in it. It's a sad and well-written story about how everypony (particularly Rainbow Dash) copes with the loss of a certain pink party pony..

My most favorite fanfic changes a lot but the current one is Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons, It's a good read and I'm pretty sure it's the longest completed fanfic on FIMfiction (around 1,750,000 words). You should read this if you've read the original Fallout Equestria.

The story series Ponies After People are also pretty good and so is the Split Second series.

One of my favorite dark fics is the story The Monster we Made.

The Hard Reset Trilogy is an interesting read, has stuff to do with time loops.

Romance is also quite fun sometimes, the fanfic that is the most in this genre for me is the An Affliction of The Heart Series.

Favorite Comedy: A Changeling of the Guard.  Idol Hooves is has a hilarious over serious manner to him, similar to Maud (who he gets along with excellently), and his ability to jump between doing the exactly wrong thing and exactly right is great as well.

Favorite Romance: The Blueblood Chronicles.  A Blueblood/Ditzy story (and there's in story reasons for her to be Ditzy not Derpy).  A rather unusual pairing, but it's actually really cute.  It also has one of the best depictions of Rarity and Bluebloods relationship I've seen; a kind of friendly antagonism, especially once Rarity starts playing scheming matchmaker.

Favorite Slice of Life: Yule in a Donut Shop.  Trixie, Gilda, Lighting Dust, Blueblood, and Harshwhinny meet in Joe's Donuts on Hearth's Warming Eve.  Christmas spirit ensues.

Favorite Horror: The Writing on the Wall. Made scarier by how entirely plausible it is.  I'd read an article on the concept before, long before I found MLP.  The moment when I put 2 and 2 together...

Favorite Crossover: The Dresden Fillies. It's Harry Dresden; need I say more?  For whatever reason, Dresden and ponies just work really well together.  Also, Bob the Skull in Equestria is amazing.

I don't really have a lot of fanfics that I would recommend to others, but Code Lyoko EG is one that I would definitely say is worth your time.

This fanfiction really has a lot of great character development and is overall a really compelling read.

Cold be good. Paper Mario is one of the best games ever made, so ponies sucked in it sounds worthwhile. I claim that because my second read fic ever deals with a similar premise, but Arkham City instead of Paper Mario

One of my favorite fanfics was called Xanthippe and Silga's Adventures written by Tilgoreth. Sadly he cancelled it. Which might at least partially be because he was banned from this site. But I don't know Tilgoreth. All I know is from the blog post he made on fimfiction.
