How did Yaktakistan survive with no crystal heart?

How did Yaktakistan survive the 1,000 year CE banishment when the Crystal Heart was gone, the weather overtook that entire land, turning the entire northern region into a huge blizzard, how did the Yaks survive that? did the weather just not reach Yakyakistan, is it too far west? Or did the Yaks just eat snow for 1,000 years.

By having very, very thick coats. Ponies can't handle those temperatures, Yaks can.

It didn't seem like they could survive well when they were covered in Snow in Not Asking for Trouble, a constant raging Blizzard for a 1,000 years is far worse than that, they may have had some sanctuary or something, in fact I think Wings Over yakyakistan has some statue they stayed in.

They might be in a better position, say, behind a mountain that forces the blizzard to sail over them.

I do believe they were better protected and prepared for the blizzard back then.

Does the crystal heart's power even reach that far out in the first place?

I don't think it does.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I came too when talking about this with a friend, it's just that they said the frozen north would overtake the crystal heart, and if the crystal heart doesn't reach that far, than Yakyakistan should already be covered by the blizzard. I think the Crystal Heart sort of vanquishes the raging storm all over the north, and without it, the Yaks stayed in a safer place like the statues in Wings Over Yakyakistan

The thick fur and resilience of the yaks makes them immune to the cold.

Not to a snow covered Yakyakistan though, Not Asking for Trouble quite clearly shows they were in major trouble when their main city was snow covered. Unless they had somewhere else to live... I don't see what they could have done.

I can see that Yakyakistan might have been in some close situations before due to the frequent snow and Prince Rutherford's actions. Maybe they're located on the leeward side of the mountain and it provides them the means to survive.

Non-pones are surprisingly resilient. Only the strong can survive in the world without mysterious, overpowered artifacts. However, after all those hundreds of years of inbreeding in a small, restricted area, the days of the yak are numbered.
