Equestrian Premier League

Logomakr_9iUVkM.png.135538b5500c12657a48fd8e1f784b54.png

This league features 20 of the premier clubs in Equestria. Many soccer clubs existed in Equestria in the late 19th and 20th centuries, but they mostly played independent exhibitions. In 1924, 10 of the top clubs organized to form “The Equestrian Premier” or “Premero di Equestrus”. Expansions began after The Changeling War in 1935 as the provincial and national economies began to grow. Today, the 20 EPL teams make up one of the largest and most profitable sports leagues in Equestria.

Fillydelphia FC was formed by two dragons looking to lift Dragontown's spirit during a time of prejudice and segregation against dragons. They named themselves Fillydelphia FC because they felt Dragontown was a part of Fillydelphia despite what others ponies said. The club grew quickly in following and helped prejudicial issues as ponies began seeing that dragons were not horrible as depicted. They earned the nickname "The Fighters" because of the new found friendship. Fillydelphia historically wears black and red as their primary colors. The club crest features a red shield surrounding Dragontown's coat of arms at the time.

PSC has been a staple of the league since its origin. They are tied for third most championships in the league, but haven't hoisted the cup in over 10 years. The Tris have a strong fan base and strong showings, usually in the top 10 of the standings and attendance lists. For a long time they played their games in the old Ponyville Coliseum, but were always looking for a place of their own. Beginning in the late 1990's, PSC secured an agreement with the Navy to build on the old Naval Air Station Colton, but the agreement was contingent on a similar deal with the city which wasn't completed until 2006. Environmental quality issues delayed the start of the project for numerous years. Long story short, Colton Stadium is the Tris brand new stadium and it has lots of potential to bring the club back into relevance. The Tris draw their identity from from the former Ponyville city flag, using Light blue at home and white as a clash.

The Hornets have been around since before 1901, but they were never a formally organized team. In the pre-war years, they would only ever play other military installations in the province. After formally organizing, they gained fame quickly and were admitted to EPL. Whereas other military clubs have been sold and moved away from their historic military ties, BFC still features an all-Army team, plays its games on base, and severely limits their attendance for precaution. The BFC monogram draws heavily from the Celestial Defense System's monogram. BFC kits are traditionally black with yellow which earned them their current nickname in 1924.

Maresaw was a part of the 1935 expansion that brought pro soccer to a mostly Equestrian speaking city. This expansion process coincided with an influx of youth soccer to the province after the 1994 World Cup, and Maresaw has embraced this close tie. They have one of the best academies in the league, as well as a family-friendly experience at the matches. So far, it hasn't yielded any results, but by Celestia are they close! Be on the lookout for this club in the coming years. The Wanderers wear Lime Green ad Dark Blue as that is the city's colors. Their home ground, Aerena di Panisonic, sits on the Maresaw Soccer Complex, which is home to one of the biggest and best youth soccer tournaments in Equestria.
