Over the years, I have made a ton of Spike theories because I keep getting the feeling that there’s a lot more to him than we know. Why has Celestia given Spike to Twilight? Most might say: “Celestia’s first attempt to teach Twilight friendship.” I think it’s more than that! The last theory on what Spike’s destiny could be is becoming the Equestrian ambassador. Now that he’s one for the dragons (maybe the Changelings too, I dunno), now I don’t think that’s it. I mean why does Spike hang out with the Mane Six all the time and yet not have an Element of Harmony? I’m not saying Spike is the nonexisting 7^th element, I’m saying he IS the elements to a respect!

You think the show developers don’t know what to do with him? I say they thought of something for him from the very start and only made him the comic-relief so long just so we wouldn’t expect it! The writers, they’re doing this on purpose! They didn’t make him better because we asked them to! They made him better cause that’s how it was supposed to be!

Everything Spike has done so far has had something to do with the Elements. First, Secret of my Excess: it taught him generosity, after he gave that gem to Rarity, and then fight off his inner greed! Then we have episodes like Owl’s Well, Lesson Zero, and Crystal Empire, each showed his loyalty towards Twilight! He’s so loyal to her! Not just to her, but to all his friends – Starlight at certain times, Ember, Thorax… he’s been loyal to them all! He’s had their backs, he’s seen them all at their worse, and yet he still stuck by their sides because he knows the good in them! Then we have Inspiration Manifestation who taught him to be honest to even his closest of friends, and Triple Threat when he lied to keep Equestria safe but he forgot that both Ember and Thorax are his friends and they would’ve trusted his word on the other being cool.

Then we have kindness, after Spike gave Ember saved her life and gave her a chance knowing that not all dragons besides him are bad, and then he gave Thorax a chance and helped him get accepted – both kindness demonstrations! Then there’s Dungeons and Discords when he gave Discord a chance to hang with him and Big Mac despite all he’s done! Then of course, Spike’s had laughter since day one with his snarkiness and sarcasm! Spike has also had magical moments like learning who his true friends are from Dragon Quest and every friendship he’s made so far in the show! Basically, Spike has demonstrated every Element of Harmony in the show through his episodes, and more like being a humble hero to the crystal ponies!

This is why I think Spike’s destiny will come at the very end of the series, when Equestria is in the most troubling state! I think he’s gonna be the hero, the answer! When the Elements aren’t enough, they need that #1 assistant by their side, because he has mastered the magic of friendship pretty much! Every element! He is pretty much the best friend anypony on the show could ever ask for, and he has demonstrated it since Day One when he helped Twilight befriend the Mane Six!  Hey maybe perhaps Stygian might have some part in this as well, like after he got the Pillars together! Spike would sacrifice his LIFE for his friends and probably all of Equestria! His dream was to be a hero, as judged by Dog and Pony Show!

Forget that I said season 8 is gonna be Spike’s BIGGEST season! Season NINE is gonna… at least I’m fairly sure! Not sure if I cracked the code or not, but this is probably the best way to give Spike his biggest moment in the show’s history, because it actually makes sense to all of Spike’s character arc and it's completely in-character too! And the only character I think knows this… is Celestia! That’s why she gave him to her!

Good theory, though it's unlikely that every single thing you said will be canon. I hope for the most part it would be true.

This almost kind of reinforces my idea that the series is (loosely) told through Spike's perspective.  His role in the series is a reflection of how he viewed himself throughout his life, starting with just feeling like an assistant to Twilight (pre-season 1), to feeling like his only use is as Twilight's assistant, and that he's bad at everything else (Seasons 1-5), to finally finding purpose in life, that being to be the one who unites these other nations together with Equestria.  People usually pick themselves apart more than anyone else, and you could essentially say that Spike is the one brought down the most in the show.  The fact that he displays traits of all the elements though...could be evidenced by the fact that he's EVERYWHERE.  He was the one writing a lot of the letters in Season 1, he hangs around Twilight and her friends so much, and he's even in some episodes that Twilight isn't, or is barely on screen.  He's had so much exposure to what all the elements have learned, that he certainly would have learned along the way.

You did mention that he would give his life for his friends and Equestria...and I think he may have unconsciously saved Equestria already.  Not in the series, but by the series.  You know how I said that the series is loosely told through Spike perspective?  What if someone who took over Equestria, did so by suppressing memories and sending ponies away...away to a place very close to us...or should I say, among us, with Spike being caught up in this takeover, and being sent to Earth too.  So could it be, that Spike (unconsciously) gave the ideas behind FiM to Faust, and in doing so, got our eyes opened to the world of Equestria, preparing us for the day the spell that was put on ponies wears off, and thousands of people being to return to their pony state.  That way, people wouldn't be freaking out about what they're becoming, that they'd know what they are, and that everypony could come together and re-take Equestria.  I mean, I'm probably in this mix of ponies-turned people due to being dangerously similar to one of the characters in my personality, and having over 60 episode ideas, that are loosely told through Twilight's perspective.

So you could almost say, that Spike has already saved Equestria, it's just a matter of time for it to show.

(Wow...this diverged into talking about my own theory...but eh, compare on contrast, and everyone's got different opinions, that's what the forums are for, right?)

I'd say that the strongest argument against your theory is that, IMO, the writers are incapable of such a long term strategy. All the characters have shown growth from S1 & some ways Spike has grown the most

If there is a future Elements of Harmony, I'd say Spike is likely to be Loyalty

This is very, very smart, but still I think this wasn't planned out. He was made through the series and probably all on accident. A really good accident that is.

I think you have a very good theory, and Spike has never been noticed as much as all the other characters. Heck, even Derpy, who is hardly shown in the seasons, get’s more attention in the fandom! I think that if this is true, it would be a great plot and for sure I would not mind having it end like this. Your theory probably wont happen, but its a good one that makes sense all the same. I think the cast’s minds work in a different way, tho. Right now they are probably more focused on Starlights fate.

I don't really care what Spike gets, especially in Season 9, since I have absolutely no more episode ideas for him anymore.

After all, he's had a lot of parts in Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Applejack episodes from the first 4 seasons (Feeling Pinkie Keen, Spike at Your Service, and Inspiration Manifestation, respectively).

Idk how fair that is, the pillars were planned since pre season 6 so that is pretty decent forethought.
