What is the first news story you remember?

Obama getting elected in 2008. Didn't really watch the news much as a kid, but I remember it being a pretty exciting night, even though 7 year old me didn't understand what was going on (the first time I even heard the phrase "running for president" I thought it meant there was going to be a literal race to become president)

I think the one that really stuck with me was when 9/11 happened.  I remember missing the bus so my mom took me to school, I remember when she was signing me in everyone had their eyes glued on the tv.  The office secretary absent-mindedly told me to go to class while she was watching the plane fly into the building, my mom stayed in the office to watch the news.  Every class I passed was watching the news, they were all completely quiet.  I was confused as I went to class, I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade at the time.

The first news story that I remember was the 2000 United States presidential election and how Florida had to do a ton of recounts of the votes because it was nearly a tie between G.W. Bush and Al Gore.

I think it should be something about the Yugoslav wars in the late 1990s. The neighbors had too much fun and the western overlords decided to finish off the country.

I remember seeing 911 on TV, I was playing Red Alert 2 at the time.
This map, so added cutscene benefits.

The first news story I was following was pretty much the US+ and pretty much all their satellites vs Iraq invasion.
It made me watch CNN a lot back in the day. I honestly expected Saddam to put up a better defense. For some reason like in Gulf War 1,
they didn't dig in the cities where they pretty much had their only chance to slow their enemies down.

The Libyan part of the Arab spring (I just remember the protests and waving the current flag)

I would have been 6

The first one I remember more vividly was the start of the Syrian Civil War, I remember the protests and them very quickly descending into an absolutely brutal war

Would have between 6-7

It was a new about 9/11. My school made an announcement on it- I remember hearing something about a bombing incident.

I remember it had to do with Bill Clinton (probably 1998-1999). The scandal? I forget. I think it was different.

It’s weird thinking about it; Bill Clinton was president. That was ages ago  .
