O-78 28,606 July 30, 2018 Share July 30, 2018 While Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack and Rainbow Dash have clearly developed and grown as characters since Season 1, it feels like Pinkie Pie has gone the other way. I mean, if you watch the episodes from Seasons 1-3 with her in them, she's hyper but just wants to make everyone around her happy, and you can tell she really cares about her friends. But since Season 4, she's frequently shown complete disregard for everypony around her, constantly getting in the way of her friends, not always noticing when somepony's upset, and just generally being annoying and insensitive. Prime examples of this are Filli Vanilli where she's seemingly trying to make Fluttershy cry, Rock Solid Friendship where she continuously gets between Maud and Starlight and it's virtually impossible to get her to shut up and go away, and Yakity-Sax where she just completely ignores everything around her and destroys the town with her horrible Yovidaphone playing. I mean, Pinkie Pie was always the loud talkative one, but in the first three seasons she at least had a filter and some common sense. Now she's devolved into a loud, insensitive idiot. The current writers seem to be unable to write Pinkie properly and have stripped away everything that originally made her an endearing character. When I first started watching, Pinkie was my second-favorite character behind Fluttershy. Now she's become my least favorite of the Mane 6 and one of my least favorites in the series. What does everypony else think? Has Pinkie Pie seriously regressed this much or am I being too harsh on her and the writers? P.S. Sometimes I gamble for meanings of the words. And sometimes I write the wrong words, like week and weak for example. Sorry for it already. In Rock Solid she's blinded by the idea of getting to be close to her and started to get desperate. In Maud Couple she came across someone who finally rubbed her the wrong way and who happened to be real close to her sister. As a counterpoint, look at The Mean 6. Where Pinkie is the one to comfort Fluttershy and call out Twilight for upsetting her (kinda redeeming her actions towards Flutters in Filli Vanilli) I would also point to Not Asking for Trouble from season 7 and the "Pinkie's Present" song from season 6. Season 8 is by far not the worst season out of them all. The only characters I can really see that have regressed is Pinkie as mentioned above. Rainbow Dash and Applejack are different from when they were in Season 1 due to their personalities having the edges shaved off of them. With Fluttershy, she has seen having multiple personalities or can at least to pretend to have multiple. She is still much better than she was in Season 1, she was so meek that she couldn't even begin to confront any pony. She really isn't random though, she just got carried away. With Discord, he is still him old self. How can you expect a force of chaos to not make things chaotic at least from time to time. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
FirePuppy 735 July 30, 2018 Share July 30, 2018 Pinkie hasn't always been like this, you know. Remember Buckball Season? That episode did focus on her, but she wasn't really like this at all there. I still want a real Pinkie and Fluttershy episode and NO MORE for any of the other combos, since they'll be the most underrated pair of all time after this season's done. Thrond 3,263 July 31, 2018 Share July 31, 2018 There are also plenty of examples of annoying character writing for Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy as well, and even Rarity and Twilight, who have both spent the vast majority of the past several seasons in dignified positions, have had their moments. Meanwhile, I can state examples of Pinkie appearances recently where she acted maturely, such as "Not Asking for Trouble" or "Buckball Season." I don't feel like a lot of episodes lately have touched on the things I find most interesting about her, and I don't really enjoy all of her recent appearances, but that's not to say she's consistently insensitive. Pinkie says she gets along with every pony and they believe it's out of character if she doesn't. That thought process is wrong. It's that Pinkie believes that she would get along with every pony. Meeting someone that finally got under her skin was great for her character. Pinkie in rock solid friendship and Maud couple were completely in character and wasn't fake. Fluttershy has always shown the ability to be ...eeh mean and sociopathic sometimes. I honestly wonder will the show ever address it anymore. Fluttershy clearly has a lot of pent up anger in her. Knowing that Pinkie won't be getting another episode until then, it's the highest possible chance now she will have an episode with Fluttershy. Not only that, Pinkie has the terrible habit of assuming scenarios and doesn't care to share her knowledge/feelings when she does. And that characterization has been going on since S1: 'Swarm of the Century', 'Party of One', 'The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000', 'MMMystery on the Friendship Express', 'A Canterlot Wedding', 'Wonderbolts Academy'. That's why I don't consider Pinkie's inconsideration a regression, it's just the consequence of having no boundaries from her friends on that behaviour over a year. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Senko 459 August 4, 2018 Share August 4, 2018 I think she's progressed myself but then again I also feel she has deep seated issues, they all do really but her's are the worst in part because she tries to bury them in order to bring laughter to everyone else. So to me she's progressed on her way to a full on breakdown like she had in party of 1 (I think its late and I'm about to go to bed) only this time it wont be so easy to help her recover. I don't know why the writer or the animators would do this, really, but either way, this doesn't look good for Pinkie Pie fans so far this season.
