Unity 332 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 (edited) How do you think age works in the world where Equestria is located? Do you think it is similar to our earth or do you think may be they are faster or slower? Edited August 3, 2018 by Unity
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,531 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 I think ponies live much longer, probably because of that good ol magic they have. Just look at Granny Smith, who is essentially ancient, but still kicking. Magic of some kind probably plays a huge role in all of that, as Equestria seems to have all sorts of types of magic, apparent or not.
SharpWit 2,666 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 I regard the mention of ponyville having been founded hundreds of years ago and Granny Smith being present for its founding as the show creators not paying very close attention rather than her having been around for a few centuries, and as far as how time between MLP and Equestria works, I think they didn't bother trying. Probably best to assume some destiny occurred in that Twilight had to go through the portal around the same time the human variants of her friends happened to all be together. Also if Granny smith were ancient, that would negate much of the significance that comes with Celestia's age. Afterall, her younger years are a time where the current generation thought a lot of what happened was of myth and legend. I think Ponies age like we do but that their life expectancy has recently gone up with further societal and technological advancements.
Dashy 4 Ever 4,835 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 Depends. I think they do but they have higher expactations from others while they are still young considering that they need to find their talent and "cutie mark." Tell me this isn't the cutest thing you've seen all day?
cuteycindyhoney 13,307 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 (edited) First, we need to know how many days in one of their years. How long is their day, for that matter? How do they measure time? Back on an edit. Have they ever shown a clock? I've been trying to remember if they have. In Lesson Zero, Twilight seemed to be using the position of the sun to tell time. Does anyone remember seeing a clock? Edited August 3, 2018 by cuteycindyhoney Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!
Brobot 1,436 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 Honestly I think Earth ponies have the same life span of humans cause we see old ponies and not old unicorns or pegusus ad granny smith has been alive since the founding of ponyville so she must have some age under her belt! beep beep (formally known as woodchunks66)
Here No Longer 5,276 August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 It's quite clear that it doesn't. Celestia and Luna have both been alive for at least 1130 years and Granny Smith is probably quite a ways past 100... Ponies age slower than people, some even apparently age slower than trees do. Senko 459 August 4, 2018 Share August 4, 2018 On topic first I suspect ponies age slower than our world having a modern human lifespan so rather than 25 to 30 years they'll live 80 to 100 years. This also fits in with Granny Smith and the founding of ponyville as its implied that was around 100 years ago from what I recall off the top of my head and we do know a lot of other ponies around then have passed on or passed away e.g. Filthy Rich's grandfather and possibly his father. On the other hand maybe she's like old Billy and has lived to be twice the average lifespan of a pony and is nearing her second century. Yep I'm pretty sure we see clocks at a number of different points in various episodes e.g. Rarity takes manehattan when Pinky puts to a large one on the side of the building saying Rarity's deadline is only a few minutes away or the clock tower in ponyville we see in Heart's and Hooves Day. nr2038 51 August 4, 2018 Share August 4, 2018 Well Granny Smith would not need to be ancient for her to be a founding member of the Ponyville Community. There are towns that were formed in the last century and and a half. Now taking also into consideration that no one wanted to live that close to the Everfree and/or the old castle where Nightmare Moon lived it kind of makes sense that the ponies have possibly a linger life span in relation to humans. Jedishy 3,548 August 5, 2018 Share August 5, 2018 I am going to have to echo others in saying that I think their ages work the same for who is considered an adult and what have you but that they live much longer. Though I do find it odd how much liberty the kids are given. Maybe that is due to lack of crime and not assumed maturity? May the Friendship be with you. Kadeda 178 August 5, 2018 Share August 5, 2018 I think they age the same as we do for the most part... maybe with a bit of a longer life expectancy. Nothing to crazy though. I think when Twilight said Ponyville been around for hundreds of years... it's a plot hole as everything else tells us it's been around 50-100 years. My guess is that granny smith is either 75 or 85 years old and ponyville was created 60 or 70 years ago.

Things of that sort. I can sort of see Twilight raising Spike since on the one hand she did hatch him and if you include the comics Celestia did help her out somewhat here and there and apparently did it deliberately to give Twilight her first friend. Personally I think Celestia just thought the filly who hatched the dragon should try taking care of him while she was available to step in and intervene if necessary and yes I do know that brings up all sorts of teen pregnancy issues. However there could well be other circumstances we don't know about and the show does like to hint at these situations so it could well be that Twilight is the single, teenage mum of the show. As for Applejack its not like she was living alone and working she was staying with realitives rather like Bab's did for a time. But we do not fully understand Equestrian Society yet so there maybe things here considered strange, but normal there. Just like any part of the world. There's to much pointing toward them being in their mid to late twentys. They even introduced teenage pony bodies in season 6. FizzyGreen 909 August 6, 2018 Share August 6, 2018 Oh, what could i do to get time dilation into this? ...probably not much Yeah no i think time works the same way i just think ponies live very long there. But for that you need no different rules of physics. It's just their genetics. Just how growing can be a programmed part just like the molt. And i think you can only count a year in mlp by how many hearts warming eaves we had so far. ...which i didn't count. "You are right Starlight, you are more talented in magic than me. But talent doesn't mean, that you are privileged to have more power. It's the heart! All you need, to have power, is a heart!"

GuerrierCosmique 146 August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 (edited) It's common for cartoon and comicbook characters to grow and age like regular people until a certain point where they "freeze" which is usually the first time they appear. For example, in the Disney comicbook universe, which is supposed to be set in "the present day" of each story (which was the 30s and 40s when it did start), Donald hasn't changed any bit, Huey, Dewey and Louie are still children and Scrooge would be 150 years old by now. Lord Midnight Madness 1,543 August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 I think they age much different. I think that because of their magic especially unicorns they could with the right spell live forever and whoever they cast it on. Now I don't now about earth and pegasus ponies but each of them have magical properties, but I don't now how that would work with how they age.
