There was Patchwork, the blue unicorn mad doctor with facial piercings and scars, Zerra Stormblade, the yellow pegasus mare who was surprisingly the tallest of the group, Garnethoof, the bulky earth pony with heavy scarring on the left side of his face, the unnamed ghoulish looking pegasus with sallow cheeks and hazed over eyes, and Cumulus Daybreak, the young, tan pegasus with red hair.

However, they were all chained together by the neck with two royal guards standing on either side. The guards walked with them as they stepped through the doors.

Jade watched as Team Lockdown entered the arena, chained together by royal guards. Some prisoners trying to earn a pardon, she assumed.

Somehow, she felt less nervous taking on a group of convicted criminals than she did a gaggle of circus freaks. Perhaps the lack of demonic energy?

Still, two-on-five were unfavourable odds.

She had her eyes on Cumulus Daybreak, and felt a twinge of competition within her. She really hoped that was the designated leader of the team.

They could make out a few confused questions from the crowd.

"Hey, where's the rest of their team?"

"Why are so many teams showing up to fights with missing members this year?"

"Look at them! Rose looks dead already! I paid to see a fight!"

"This is perfect! We'll definitely get to see Lotus lose now!"

"But I wanted to see all five of them die! This is a ripoff!"

"Right um..." Topaz attempted to explain. "No reason has been given for the absence, but those of you who are glued to your TV screens may notice that Snow Frostflame and Draco O'Malley are missing from the Team Lotus line-up."

Dynamo turned to Tricis as she addressed him and the others. He nodded at the serious look upon her face. He closed his eyes for a moment, before opening his eyes with a serious look of his own. "You've got it, coach." He could hear the jeering of the crowd, but chose to ignore the spectators. He rolled his eyes as Topaz explained that Snow and Draco were nowhere to be seen. 'Gee, what gave that away? Other than the fact that the crowd were pointing out the obvious.'

As Topaz called upon the other team to make their entrance, Dynamo looked to the doors on the opposite side of the stadium. As the doors finally opened, he was greeted by team Lockdown, who were all chained together by the neck, while being lead by two royal guards. The blue unicorn could feel an eerie chill run down his spine. He knew he and the other were given information about this team. He just couldn't shake the fact that they were more menacing in person. 'Just so long as I don't have to fight that mad doctor, then I'll be fine. Just hearing about his type of work is bad news.' He sighed, while trying to remain calm and avoiding eye contact with the other team.

Frostflame charged on through the forest, cutting any vegetation in his way, but his run slowly turned into a jog, then he began crawling through the plants. "Its too quiet" he thought to himself. He looked around and saw nothing, so he came up with a plan. He took a stick and buried it slightly so it stood up, he then took off his hat and placed it on the stick, and had it peaking just outside of the plants. Frostflame moved away from his hat, hoping it wouldn't be destroyed since it meant something to him, but it was either him or his hat. He waited nearby, and listened.

As Snow cut through any vegetation through the forest, Cosmic was sneaking around the forest. Hugging around the trees as stealthily as he could to avoid detection. He was given information about Snow, so he would make sure to outsmart him. As time passed, Cosmic was starting to become bored that nothing had happened. He was starting to think that Snow had simply run away, or found him to be boring. "Hey, Frozen. Are you there? What's the situation?" He spoke quietly into a transceiver in his ear. He remembered that he was given an ear piece in case the group was separated. Frozen, who was still floating up above, had picked up on Cosmic's voice. "I read you loud and clear. How's the fight going on down below?" The neon green unicorn huffed, while leaning against the tree he was hiding behind. "Nothing has been going on, at all. He's hiding like a coward. I want to fight now and get the information that you and I want." The ebony Pegasus sighed and shook his head. "He's not being a coward. He's actually showing some strategy. Think about it. If you go in full throttle, then you're most likely going to lose the battle. If you go in with a plan, then you'll have at least some chance of being victorious." Cosmic moved his hoof around in the air, as if the hoof was pretending to be Frozen talking. "Blah, blah, blah. I get what you mean, but come on. You've got a good bird's eye view of the general area. Do you see him?"

Frozen glided through the air, while keeping a close eye on the forest. He hummed as he couldn't see through the thickness of the trees and leaves that surrounded them. "The view in altitude isn't helping much, but..." He stopped as he thought he saw Snow, who had placed his hat on a stick and used that as bait. "Y-Yeah, I think I see him. He placed his hat on a stick and it's in your general area. It's about 20 or so meters off into the North." The neon green unicorn peeked around the tree, so that his eye could be seen. He noticed the bait and smiled. 'So, he wants to be smart and get into my head, huh? Well, two can play this game. Let's see what we can do.' He thought, before whispering into the ear piece. "I see the bait and I'm going to activate it. Let's see how long he can go hide." He got up from his spot in the forest and made his way out from behind the tree. He walked around nonchalantly, all the while having a sick grin on his face. "Oh, Snow~! Come out and play~! SNOW~! Come out, come out to play~!" He sang in an obnoxious tone. Upon listening to this, Frozen rolled his eyes, before pinching the bridge of his nose. "I swear. That unicorn is going to be the end of me one of these days." He looked down to keep an eye that his teammate would be safe.

The sun made Frozen's glasses shiny, so as to hide the cold and calculating look in his eyes. Cosmic could see the trap a few meters before him. It was then that he chose to make his move. "If you don't come out to fight me, then I'll just have to blast you out of the forest. I'll give you ten seconds. That sounds fair, don't you think?" He stopped in his tracks as he began to count down. His horn glowed as he prepared to fire off another laser. "One, two, skip a few. TEN!" He shot a quick, but huge laser at the bait, before firing off a few more blasts at areas around the bait.

The group of criminals stopped on the other side of the ring, their chains rattling as the haulted. After a few moments of silent, Cumulus gave an audible scoff. He had a thick cockney accent, which was understandable given his "butcher of Trottingham" alias. "Bah! Right then, I'll be stayin right here if this gonna be a fix. Big Shot said he'd let us fight our way to freedom. If he wants to fix this scrap 'imself, he wont get scraps from me."

Cumulus sat down like a pouty child with his hooves crossed.

Garnethoof scowled at Cumulus. "You agreed to act as captain."

"Someone else go!" Cumulus spat. He opened an eye at Garnethoof and scoweled, "And don't you ever tell me what to do!"Garnethoof inched further away at the glare Cumulus gave him. It was clear from the altercation that Garnethoof was intimidated by Cumulus.

"Fine..." Garnethoof said through gritted teeth. "Who wants to step up, then? The first can be captain."

Zerra stepped forward and made eye contact with one of the guards. The chain around her neck was released and she was able to walk onto the ring.

"Alright, after a brief debate, it looks like Zerra Stormblade is going to act as captain for Team Lockdown." Topaz announced. "Now for Team Lotus to send up their captain."

Rose tensed up seeing Zerra step into the platform. She knew that it was a bit of her duty to fight her as her father did, to pass and compare to him and his style. She looked at the team and started to pinpoint the weaknesses

Draco dodged to the side and said "Yeah this'll do," he sent 4 wind blades towards the diamond dog as a distraction as he then ran up to her and sent a right hoof to her chest. Considering he had his gauntlets and their obsidian blades on well yeah she would be hurting if she didn't dodge. Hmm but her power was odd it seemed like his but no focus on surviving.

Zerra stepped forward and made eye contact with one of the guards. The chain around her neck was released and she was able to walk onto the ring.

"Alright, after a brief debate, it looks like Zerra Stormblade is going to act as captain for Team Lockdown." Topaz announced. "Now for Team Lotus to send up their captain."

As the group of criminals stopped walking before the ring, Dynamo watched as some of them tried to get the captain to enter the ring. He noticed Cumulus had a bit of an attitude as he refused to act as the captain. 'They don't seem to act like a team, but that may be all an act. I don't think we saw them fight in the first round yesterday, but they have to be strong if they got past the first stage. We shouldn't underestimate them.' He thought as he noticed Garnethoof seemed to be intimidated by Cumulus. "That Cumulus might be the captain, but that's a toss up. He made Garnethoof afraid and yet these guys are tough criminals. If not, then there must be someone stronger than Cumulus." He says as Zerra had the chain around her neck removed, so she could walk onto the ring.

Jade almost felt disappointed as she saw the argument going on across the arena. They hadn't even decided on a captain?

She watched the tall Pegasus strut toward the arena, being announced as captain of Team Lockdown.

"Looks like I'm first," she muttered, and stretched out her wings and legs

She walked up the steps to the arena, locking eyes with Zerra as she got into position. No need for theatrics this time; get in and finish this quickly.

Zerra stood nearly a foot taller than Jade. She looked down on her with half-lidded eyes before speaking first. "With only two fighters on your team, we can't do this the normal way. It'd be impossible for you to win. We'll go with Griffonstone Tournament rules. One on one fights. Once a fighter enters the ring, they stay until they're defeated. Loser is the first team to have everyone beaten."

The diamond dog used her sickle to hook each of the wind blades and redirect them in random directions as she backed away, but that left her open when Draco came in to strike and she was struck in the chest and sent back a few feet, clenching her ribs.

"Last one standing, is it?" she summarised, then shifted her hooves into a combat stance. "Very well."

As Jade made her way to the center of the ring to discuss the rules with the other team captain, Dynamo thought he distinctly heard something along the lines of last one standing. "So, the griffin kingdom had their own style of matches when it came to fighting. I guess other ponies and creatures see fighting in one way or another, but it's still fighting all the same." He noticed Jade was getting her hooves into a combat stance. "She doesn't seriously think that she'll be fighting first, right?" He looked to Tricis, while giving the coach a look of concern. "I know you said that I ask too many questions, but I'm just weighing he options. Isn't it best to save the captain for last? I know we only have two teammates fighting against five, but still. It's better to have a sort of strategy going into this. It's better than taking any risks." He says as he looked to Rose, while motioning that he wasn't leaving her out of this. More rather, he was concerned about her well being given the situation they were all in. He became concerned as he wondered what the actual plan would be for this round.

The pegasus curled her mouth into a smile. "I'll look forward to it then. You'll need to be smart deciding the order you'll fight in." She said, before turning and walking back out of the ring.

She put the neck collar back around her neck and one of the royal guards locked it again.

"Allow me to go first," The ghoulish green pegasus said, his voice like wet gravel. "With my abilities, It would be best for me to start. I could secure victory for us no matter who they send."

A guard removed the collar around his neck and he lept into the ring. He was wearing a heavy red leather trench coat with odd bulges in the sides around his torso, likely covering something more than just his wings.

Tricis pushed Rose's side as she walked toward the ring, causing her a sharp surge of pain from the light tap as her broken bones were far from healed. "You will wait as long as you can. You're in no condition to fight."

As Zerra exited the ring and back to her teammates, Dynamo noticed the ghoulish green Pegasus decided to go first. He gulped as he seemed more threatening and eerie in person, but he knew that they would have to do everything they could. He looked to Rose, who looked as if she wanted to go first. "If you want to, then I guess that might work. However, I would have to give you a spell that would help you when you fight. Even so, it'll be up to Jade's decision on who would go first."

The blue unicorn winced as Tricis pushed Rose to the side. He shook slightly as it felt like he could feel one's physical pain. "I guess that Rose will be out for a while, until the time is right. Well, that just leaves Jade and myself. If we have to, then I'll take the first few rounds to secure as many wins. It's like I said before. I'll wait until Jade gives the decision." He says as he awaited for his captain's return to her team.

I would have to agree on your train of thought, captain." He nods, before continuing. "She's still injured, so it's best that she rests up and can fight later on. We just need to save our strength and have the healthy fighters go first." At Jade's question of him going first, Dynamo looked to the ghoulish Pegasus, before turning to Jade and nods. "I honestly wouldn't want to fight some of the members on that team, but I don't mind going first. I'll make sure to get two to three wins if I have to. We need to make sure that you and Rose save your strength for later on. Especially since we don't know which of them is the true captain and/or ace."

He spoke softly, as Rose glowed from the spell, before the glow of the spell dimmed. "That should be able to help you when you go up to fight. When you feel as if you are in trouble, just say 'wind' and you'll be just fine." He turned back to the arena and stepped up onto the ring. He made his way to the center to meet Topaz and the ghoulish Pegasus. "I'll start us off for Team Lotus. May I ask what your name is?" He didn't know this pony's name from what Shining Armor had gone over the day before. He would have to make sure to be on guard and do the best that he could for the team.

The pegasus' head tilted back as his lips curled up, revealing his yellowed teeth. His eyes were glazed over with a sort of yellowish haze. "You can call me the Chemist, kid, that's my call card."

He reached into his red jacket and pulled out a triangular metal gas mask with rubber ends. Placing it over his mouth, it sealed to his face and remained in place without any straps.

"Fighters, take your stances please!" Topaz ordered.

The Chemist flung off his red jacket, revealing metal tanks strapped around his torso. The tanks had rubber hoses attached to their ends, some of them leading down his legs, others pumping liquids directly into the pegasus' chest and wings.

The other members of team lockdown took a step back.

"First match of the second round: Dynamo Pad versus the Chemist! READY! SET! GO!"

"We don't have time to heal all your injuries, but hopefully I can get your ribs fixed before you have to fight. If you go into the ring like this, your shattered ribs could pierce your lungs."

Dynamo looked back to Jade, who was giving him some advice before his battle. "I'll make sure to keep a distance, if I can. I'll try not to back out because I want to make sure we pass. If it gets too much, then I will back out. If worse comes to worse, then I can try my secret technique that I've been working on." He winked to Jade, before resuming on making his way to the center of the ring.

The pegasus' head tilted back as his lips curled up, revealing his yellowed teeth. His eyes were glazed over with a sort of yellowish haze. "You can call me the Chemist, kid, that's my call card."

He reached into his red jacket and pulled out a triangular metal gas mask with rubber ends. Placing it over his mouth, it sealed to his face and remained in place without any straps.

"Fighters, take your stances please!" Topaz ordered.

The Chemist flung off his red jacket, revealing metal tanks strapped around his torso. The tanks had rubber hoses attached to their ends, some of them leading down his legs, others pumping liquids directly into the pegasus' chest and wings.

The other members of team lockdown took a step back.

"First match of the second round: Dynamo Pad versus the Chemist! READY! SET! GO!"

As the Pegasus tilted his head back and gave odd look, Dynamo raised an eyebrow in both curiosity, yet feeling somewhat disturbed. 'Shining Armor was right about one thing. These guys are pretty insane. It doesn't help that their fighting skills might match to boot.' As the Pegasus introduced himself as 'the Chemist,' the blue unicorn nodded as he assumed that was the best answer he would get. "I'm guessing by your name that you like to conduct some science experiments, huh?" He asks, but more as an assumption to himself.

As Topaz asked them to get set before the fight, Dynamo got into a pose as he was ready to begin. What was strange to Dynamo was when Chemist pulled out a metal gas mask. As he placed the gas mask on, he threw off his jacket to reveal metal tanks strapped to his torso. Some of the tubes had attached to his legs, while others pumped liquid into his chest. Dynamo's eyes widened at the sight. 'What in the name of Equestria is this guy? Why does he even has a gas mask on, if he has those tubes connected to him?' The members of Team Lockdown had backed away, which didn't go unnoticed by the blue unicorn.

As the match was called to begin, Dynamo stood in place. He didn't know what to make of this guy. 'Does this guy have some sort of explosives in his arsenal? Not only that, but those tubes have to mean something. I wonder...if perhaps that liquid is making him stronger and faster at flying. If you take away the tubes, then he should fall apart. Even if the liquid had circulated throughout his body.' He sighed as he knew that standing around would do him no good. 'I just need to be careful. Given by his name, he could also have dangerous toxins and poisons.' He horn began to glow as he gathered energy for an attack. "I guess I'll have to start it off." He fired a laser beam at the Chemist, but he was surprised as the magic drain wasn't as bad as before. He wondered it that was because of the training he had gotten from Tricis. He would have to ask questions later. Right now, he had a fight to focus on.

The Pegasus bent his left legs and stepped to the right in a fluid but unnatural display of flexibility. He followed the beam with his eyes as it zipped past him, even turning his head away from Pad to watch it crash into one of the support pillars behind him, biting deep into the concrete structure.

"A warning shot. How noble." He said, his voice coming out quite clearly through his mask. The tubes pumping into his body pulsated as the rate of circulation increased. "My concoctions make my sight very different from yours. Things move slower. I can even see your aura. And you wouldn't believe the pleasure!"

"He crossed his front legs, tilting them so that Dyanmo could see two open tubes at the ends. "I have plenty of other chemicals to share." The tubes started pumping out a steady cloud of white smoke that slowly expanded to the edges of the ring.

Topaz was forced to back away as she announced. "It looks like the chemist is filling the ring with some kind of foul smelling cloud of chemicals! This kind of violence just isn't fun because it's happening to me!" She tried to shield herself from one of the plumes but was forced to jump out of the ring and watch from the grass.

"How long can you hold your breath?" The chemist asked as the cloud enveloped him. Dynamo could still see the pegasus' shape in the fog, but it was blurred.

Dynamo was surprised how flexible Chemist was to dodge, but was a little disturbed by how unnatural the dodge was. "I wouldn't call it a warning. I'd say it's more about seeing what you are able to do." He knew he would have to be light on his feet if he was going to fighting this guy. 'So, he's able to see things move slowly, huh? I guess I'll have to outsmart this guy if I'm ever going to defeat him.' He pursed his lips at the mention of the chemist's abilities. 

The blue unicorn raised an eyebrow as the chemist crossed his legs. What Dynamo saw was two open tubes that were hidden behind the Pegasi's arms. At the mention of how long he could hold his breath, Dynamo gasped suddenly, before taking a big inhale of breath. As the cloud of chemicals started to fill the ring, Dynamo looked around to find the Pegasus. His eyes were stinging slightly as a tear had trailed down his face. 'I had a bad feeling he would have some poisonous gas. I have to get out of there quick. Otherwise, I'm in trouble.' He focused the magic in his horn and used a teleportation spell. He managed to teleport into the sky and quickly cast a flying spell. He let go of the breath he was holding and sighed in relief. He took a few breaths to get air into his lungs as he looked down at the ring. An aura of magic keeping him in the air. "I have to get rid of that cloud of poison and fast. I won't be able to stay in the air for long. Even if I've managed to control my magic somewhat." He tried to think of a plan, while being on high alert of the chemist.

Dynamo turned to Tricis as she addressed him and the others. He nodded at the serious look upon her face. He closed his eyes for a moment, before opening his eyes with a serious look of his own. "You've got it, coach." He could hear the jeering of the crowd, but chose to ignore the spectators. He rolled his eyes as Topaz explained that Snow and Draco were nowhere to be seen. 'Gee, what gave that away? Other than the fact that the crowd were pointing out the obvious.'

As Topaz called upon the other team to make their entrance, Dynamo looked to the doors on the opposite side of the stadium. As the doors finally opened, he was greeted by team Lockdown, who were all chained together by the neck, while being lead by two royal guards. The blue unicorn could feel an eerie chill run down his spine. He knew he and the other were given information about this team. He just couldn't shake the fact that they were more menacing in person. 'Just so long as I don't have to fight that mad doctor, then I'll be fine. Just hearing about his type of work is bad news.' He sighed, while trying to remain calm and avoiding eye contact with the other team.

As Snow cut through any vegetation through the forest, Cosmic was sneaking around the forest. Hugging around the trees as stealthily as he could to avoid detection. He was given information about Snow, so he would make sure to outsmart him. As time passed, Cosmic was starting to become bored that nothing had happened. He was starting to think that Snow had simply run away, or found him to be boring. "Hey, Frozen. Are you there? What's the situation?" He spoke quietly into a transceiver in his ear. He remembered that he was given an ear piece in case the group was separated. Frozen, who was still floating up above, had picked up on Cosmic's voice. "I read you loud and clear. How's the fight going on down below?" The neon green unicorn huffed, while leaning against the tree he was hiding behind. "Nothing has been going on, at all. He's hiding like a coward. I want to fight now and get the information that you and I want." The ebony Pegasus sighed and shook his head. "He's not being a coward. He's actually showing some strategy. Think about it. If you go in full throttle, then you're most likely going to lose the battle. If you go in with a plan, then you'll have at least some chance of being victorious." Cosmic moved his hoof around in the air, as if the hoof was pretending to be Frozen talking. "Blah, blah, blah. I get what you mean, but come on. You've got a good bird's eye view of the general area. Do you see him?"

Frozen glided through the air, while keeping a close eye on the forest. He hummed as he couldn't see through the thickness of the trees and leaves that surrounded them. "The view in altitude isn't helping much, but..." He stopped as he thought he saw Snow, who had placed his hat on a stick and used that as bait. "Y-Yeah, I think I see him. He placed his hat on a stick and it's in your general area. It's about 20 or so meters off into the North." The neon green unicorn peeked around the tree, so that his eye could be seen. He noticed the bait and smiled. 'So, he wants to be smart and get into my head, huh? Well, two can play this game. Let's see what we can do.' He thought, before whispering into the ear piece. "I see the bait and I'm going to activate it. Let's see how long he can go hide." He got up from his spot in the forest and made his way out from behind the tree. He walked around nonchalantly, all the while having a sick grin on his face. "Oh, Snow~! Come out and play~! SNOW~! Come out, come out to play~!" He sang in an obnoxious tone. Upon listening to this, Frozen rolled his eyes, before pinching the bridge of his nose. "I swear. That unicorn is going to be the end of me one of these days." He looked down to keep an eye that his teammate would be safe.

The sun made Frozen's glasses shiny, so as to hide the cold and calculating look in his eyes. Cosmic could see the trap a few meters before him. It was then that he chose to make his move. "If you don't come out to fight me, then I'll just have to blast you out of the forest. I'll give you ten seconds. That sounds fair, don't you think?" He stopped in his tracks as he began to count down. His horn glowed as he prepared to fire off another laser. "One, two, skip a few. TEN!" He shot a quick, but huge laser at the bait, before firing off a few more blasts at areas around the bait. 

Frostflame grinned, the plan worked exactly as planed... well sorta. He began creeping around the blast area to the tree Joker was hiding in, while trying to avoid Frozen's sight. Frostflame wondered whether he should straight up kill them, or let them live. Regardless he would show them what fear is, as he wasn't being hunted by them, they were being hunted by him. He crept behind the tree Joker was in, and waited for Frozen to fly away. He examined the tree, it was pretty tall and wouldn't be able to reach Joker from down here, but if he climbed it he risked being caught. Frostflame turned around and noticed another tree, nearly as tall, but tall enough to where he can reach Joker. He began to climb that one, careful not to make too much noise. Once in position he could see Joker's back and tail peaking out from the other side of the tree. Frostflame reached for his sword, but then changed his mind, he searched for a branch he could use to get closer, and eventually he was behind him, but at a distance. He looked around the forest for a bit, and without warning he dived towards Joker knocking them both out of the tree, and into the bushes. Frostflame didn't want to give Joker a chance to realize what had happened, and got on top of him, with one hoof he covered Joker's mouth, and the other he kept around his neck. He said softly "Rule number one of hunting, never give away your location." He kept him pinned down, and would hit Joker occasionally to break his concentration, last thing he wanted was a laser to the face.
