ManaMinori 4,146 October 23, 2018 Share October 23, 2018 Everyone seems to be expecting a "generation 5" once gen 4 ends, and that's all well and good because we really do need to end this gen and bring in some fresh faces, but what if Hasbro throws us a curve? What if what we get is like g1's soft reboot that produced "My Little Pony Tales" with new characters and new settings, which was still a part of g1, because the toyline stayed the same (thus making it still g1). So how would fans react to a soft, rather than a hard reboot? I'm thinking it's going to be some sort of reboot over G4 if anything. I know I for one will jump ship if something like G3.5 is made. And Newborn Cuties, the soft reboot of a soft reboot (G3.5) of a soft reboot (Core six), damn near killed the entire franchise. So history isn't on our side, but maybe third time's the charm? As described in the OP, a soft reboot sounds a lot like a spin off. So focusing on different characters and locations but within the same universe would be very well accepted. Using the same names of characters and locations but changing personalities and designs would effectively be a hard reboot. Just like how every generation of MLP was a hard reboot of the last.
