It's funny because they make direct reference to the movie in the season 8 premiere talking about the Storm King and Tempest Shadow but not to Sci-Twi arriving in Equestria. Granted it wasn't as big an event.

So the writers are really sticking to the idea of not directly making any references to EqG(besides the Sirens) in the show. Then again they may not have even known what was going to happen in Spring Breakdown at the time they finished School Daze. But canonically it's kind of funny. EqG just doesn't get the respect it deserves. lol
