movies/tv Disney Live Action remakes

I see a lot of gripe over a lot of Disney's live action remakes- The Lion King (which for some reason, still has gone unpunished for the blatant theft of many scenes and story from Kimba the White Lion), Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Cinderella, Maleficent, ect. Sure, you can complain that the  additions to the stories and characters in the Live Action films deviate from the originals and just don't make sense (having Malificent be misunderstood, Having Mowgli choose to stay in the jungle and avoid the responsibility of becoming a man, having Cinderella be booksmart and stay for the sole purpose of upholding her father's wishes to the manor, only to leave with the Prince by the end, anyway, ect.)

But here's the thing I don't get. For all the groaning ad griping about how horrible these Live action films are, and how Disney needs to put the bake on them....doesn't it say more that WE are choosing to eat these films up, for whatever reason, so that Disney still sees that they sell, thus, giving them continued reason to meddle with the classics and turn them into live action adaptations? WE, as the consumer are completely at fault, because we're continue to pay for this and vote with our wallets that this is what we want Disney to do.

So we can't really blame Disney for continuing this, now can we?

In my opinion None of them are meant to replace the original animated film version; they're meant to show how some of them would translate to Live-action media. If the remakes were really meant to replace the animated versions, they likely would have stopped merchandising the animated version and instead sell things based off the remake version. Which let's be honest, they're never going to give up the animated stuff.

To put simply, the 3 live action remakes I've personally seen so far are hit or miss.

Beauty and the Beast: Decent hit. I like how Belle and Beast share more a shared history of reading, and the Beast actually apoligize for calling Belle's father a thief and imprisoning him. I especially love how LeFou progresses from admiring Gaston as his biggest fan to realizing how awful a man Gaston really is.

Cinderella: like it for having the Prince and Cinderella interacted but the animated Cindy herself was better as she did tell her animal friends to get the dog, so she actually contributed to saving herself instead of being lucky like the remake one.

Maleficent: mostly bad. While I'm okay with Angelina Jolie as Maleficent and her sympathetic backstory, WHAT THE HECK DID THEY DO TO KING STEPHEN AND THE 3 GOOD FAIRIES?!

The live-action Dumbo remake is underperforming.

I'll also throw in that Disney is not concerned about whether or not people like their movies, so no, the consumer is not to blame. Rotten Tomatoes has admitted to "protecting" Disney films and there's even speculation about the legitimacy of the box-office numbers of Captain Marvel. That doesn't even count the terrible way Lucasfilm, a Disney subsidiary, has treated Star Wars fans despite the franchise's tanking sales. They care about quantity, not quality.

I actually pretty much avoid the live action versions. I don't really see the point in them. It's not Disney, but the only live action adaptation I want to see is "Alita: Battle Angel" I loved the original manga and OVA.

Oh, and I read several reviews that make me downright scared to watch the live action "Kim Possible"!

Honestly I’m neutral towards it to an extent. Aside from the batb one which is just a no from me. As for Aladdin and The Lion King mmmmm I dunno I might see them. Granted The Genie still looks weird but eh. And I’m avoiding Dumbo because he just doesn’t look right in the live action remake. I don’t know what is. I just don’t like it. The Lion Kings cgi looks a bit better.

People forget that the Live Action remakes actually had a film in 1996, remaking 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close as Cruella DeVil. Long before the chain of Live-Action Remakes.

I personally like how in that version, Cruella is on the receiving end of some slapstick

True. That one was pretty good too.

I guess it must not have done too well sadly if people think the live action remake trend didn’t start until the 2010’s.

I have seen only one live action remake and I loved it. It was the jungle book(2016) and if I am being honest, it was in my opinion better then the original. It was darker, intense and more serious with a better plotline, more interesting characters with more relatability.

Considering that the director of this movie is the director of the lion king remake I have faith the remake will be great as well.

How about a round of applause for Tim Burton for being the first to reintroduced a live action Disney remakes? I enjoyed the two Alice in wonderland from him but the others (Jungle book aside) Disney remakes from other people who had tried, failed horribly. Can't say for the future ones since I haven't seen them yet but so far, horrible.

I love the movie, Glenn close is a perfect cruella. The movie digs more of the psychological aspect of her rather just her as a Disney villain.

The live action remake of 101 Dalmatians is the one that didn't set well to me. They had way too many dogs on their farm. it's impossible to feed that many, and Cruella is extremely cartoony villain to begin with. >_>
