The intro to that movie is what really sticks out in my mind. Every kid was hooked on solar surfing immediately, and then it got all serious and took on that more familiar type of story, just in space. Liked it a lot, not the McDonald's toys so much. I know it was a passion project long in the making, don't know why it hasn't made much of a comeback, but that seemed to happen to a lot of Disney's stuff around that time. Was always weirded out by the Dog Doc and Cat Captain getting together.

Treasure Planet is really one of those special animated films. Personally, it's behind only Atlantis: The Lost Empire in my list of favorite animated films, and comes from that underappreciated period of animation that includes such gems like Road to El Dorado, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, Emperor's New Groove, Titan AE, and others!

What makes Treasure Planet so good?

1. Characters! Every major character has a story to tell, and goes through some significant growth. A lot of the personal battles aren't only related to the plot; there's a lot of growing up that Jim Hawkins has to do (especially in the face of his dead-beat dad leaving him), and thanks to those around him, he does JUST that. It's not an easy road, but he becomes a man by the end. Likewise; Long John Silver and the rest have their own personal battles and growth to reconcile with, and...well, this film just nails it. And what makes the characters shine?

2. Interactions! Every single bit of character interaction feels to heartfelt and genuine. Whether it's Jim with his mother, his growing relationship with Long John Silver, the budding relationship between the scientist and the captain, or heck! Even Jim and the Martin Short robot works! Not all of it is perfect, but it's close!

3. This is a hill I will die on, but when it comes to animation, Treasure Planet has the most GORGEOUS animation of any major animated film from the west. The seamless blending of 2D and 3D animation just gives the characters and world so much life and...I can't say enough. Just beautiful.

4. The film score music is by James Newton Howard. 'Nuff said.

5. Lastly; I just LOVE the setting. I know it received plenty of criticism, but the almost steampunk feeling of the world and the creativity behind space-travel here just fills my heart and imagination with glee. Love it!

So yeah; you know my opinion. ;)

Treasure planet is my favorite Disney movie. I remember watching it on theater and thinking man it was too hella dark and good for your typical Disney movie. That's probably why it's always get forgotten as being part of Disney. But it was popular back in the days and I kinda wish Disney still remembers it. I like the whole space/steampunk pirate theme since it's very original. Morph is so adorable!  There's no other words to describe how awesome this movie is.

They were planning to make a sequel and I did watch a youtuber talking about the plans on the sequel and  I was pretty glad it got cancelled.  It would've been awful and cliche. Long John sliver have a daughter who doesn't trust Jim. Goes on adventure together and fall in love. yeah awful. I wouldn't watch a romantic pirate movie ever, especially the cliche kind. I mean look what happen in "Pirates of the Caribbean"  between Liz and Will. :yuck:

Never own it on home media but during its runs on TV back in the 2000s, I saw it a couple of times and enjoyed it.

I only saw up to Stranger Tides and I thought their romance was decent. I mean how many times have you seen a couple getting married right in the middle of a battle? I've seen only this one and that's what made it awesome.

Anyway, I really loved Morph. He's so adorable!  😍

I guess  because in my head "there's no time for this!" battles and fighting is going on the background and the two just like focusing on each other. It's a bit distracting for me. I don't the mind two as pair, but I think it just need to be executed better. :twi:

I like it how cunning and 'heartless' Long John Sliver is  showing his soft side when he's around Morph!

I like Treasure Planet and I think it has a lot of really nice original touches. The characters are interesting and I like the way they adapted the story into a sci-fi setting. I could have done with fewer daddy issues, which seem to be at the top of most cliché checklists in Hollywood, but I can get past most of that because the rest is quite fun. The fact that Patrick McGoohan plays Billy Bones is just a nice little bonus for me. He’s one of my favorite actors and someone I really admire, and I’m glad he had a role in a fun animated movie before he passed away.
