Cosgrove: Hey, Freakazoid. Wanna go with me to pay respects to my voice actor?

Freakazoid: *sighs* Sure Cosgrove.

With that out of my system, Ed Asner passed away today at age 91.

As soon as I saw this on Twitter, my heart immediately sank and I couldn't believe it. I remember some of his more iconic voice work including Hudson on Gargoyles, J. Jonah Jameson on Spider-Man the Animated Series (Known also as Spider-Man 1994), Cosgrove on Freakazoid, and more that I can't recall right now. Now I feel sad that another icon from my early teenage years has passed on.

Goddamn I didn't know this guy played such a notable part in a lot of things I loved. Carl Fredrickson from Up, J Jonah Jamenson from the 90s Spiderman cartoon, and several depictions of Santa(Elf, Olive the Other Reindeer, Regular Show). RIP

This is truly sad. He did so much over such a long career. He was in Cobra Kai just this year and was absolutely great. And I was just listening to his voice work as Jabba the Hutt in the radio dramitization of Return the the Jedi. He will be missed. God bless you, Ed Asner.

And now Carl and Ellie are reunited in heaven.

I would like to quote a line from one of Ed Asner's character Hudson to the Villainous Xanatos from Gargoyle:

"A friendly word of advice. True immortality isn't about living forever, man. It's about what you do with the time you have. When all your scheming's done, what will your legacy be, Xanatos?"

And Ed Asner left behind a great legacy.

So Disney+ has recently released a spin-off sequel series Dug Days, focused on Carl Fredricksen and Dug taking place after the events of UP. I checked the end credits and Ed Asner is still credited as Carl's voice. I wonder if Disney managed to get all the lines for the shorts they plan to do before his untimely death. The short series being released feels like a way of honoring Ed Asner's memory
