Pony sense +1

New ability: sturdy: +to stamina and willpower

Kuya diligently examines the badge.

*Pony sense*

Then bites the badge for authenticity and sturdiness.

Kuya smiles and places it on his chest.

" I'm more of a mercenary but, for you you're majesty I will gladly be your knight." Once again kuya bows down to her grace.

@Kujamih You don't find anything unusual about the badge.

@Samurai Equine Celestia answers Samurai's concerns. "Don't worry about that, Samurai. It's just the name of the group. You don't have the official title of Knights. Not yet, anyway." The princess smiles and proceeds to giving you your first assignment.

"My initial plans were different, but due to something that happened yesterday, I decided to ask you to solve a little mystery for me. Don't worry if it seems too silly or unimportant to you, your subsequent missions will be much more serious."

Chapter 2: The Cake Conundrum

"So, the problem is that a cake was supposed to be delivered to my chambers yesterday, but I never received it. That's what I want you to solve. You have the right to search the castle and inquire anypony in it, me included. I wish you good luck with the investigation."

@PawelS

"A cake conundrum, hmm? Interesting. The cake was supposed to be made by the castle bakers, right? What was the cake for? Which pony was in charge of delivering it? At exactly what time were you expecting it to arrive? What flavor was it?" Dr. Clue asked, pulling out a notepad and a feather to take down notes.

While the issue seemed trivial, this one was right up her alley. She lived and worked in the castle, so she knew the place well. In addition, she was pretty good at solving mysteries. She tried to remember if she saw anything cake related while patrolling the castle yesterday.

Roll intellect and investigation.

"A cake.... Is this some kinda test for us?...."

*Use Pony Sense*

" If the cake was made inside the castle walls then we question everyone in the castle."

Kuya observed Princess Celestia diligently... He might see a clue from her.

He also observed the room, he might spot something that might be off.

*Pony Sense*

If nothing. He would proceed to talk to Dr. Clue.

@Ocean Wavedream

If nothing else would happen and would not bother the doctor, Kuya would proceed and talk to her.

" Should we check the kitchen?"

Samurai bows. "Understood, Princess."

@abrony-mouse, @Ocean Wavedream, @Kujamih

Samurai turns to Dr. Clue first. "I'll leave you to the investigation, aibou! I'm not very good at collecting clues, but I can patrol the outside of the castle and make sure no suspects try to leave or get away. If I catch anypony, I'll send them your way first. They better pray they don't have cake crumbs on their snoots." Samurai explains and walks off.

" No don't Samurai. There's a high chance that IF the perp is from outside, that pony would be long gone from the castle. And if the perp is within these walls, we shouldn't alert the perp that they are being pursued. The element of surprise is still with us... Best we keep it that way.

Our best action is to assist Dr. Clue, for she would be least suspected for she has every rights and profession to do so. And we outsiders would be like a sore hoof if we snoop around the castle."

"So many questions, Dr. Clue, you sure are an inquisitive one." Celestia is careful to use the proper version of the pagasus' name, knowing how sensitive she is about that. "So yes, it was to be made by the castle bakers, and it was for... well, eating, as it usually happens with cakes." The princess smiles brightly. "I'm not sure who was in charge of delivering it, probably one of the maids. I expected to find it in my chambers after I returned in the evening from performing my duties in the throne room. It was supposed to be cherry flavored."

Intellect (d5), result: 1 / Investigation (d5), result: 4. Best result: 4. Success!

You remember seeing a maid going through the corridors with a trolley that is normally used to transport food around the castle. The plate on top of it had a cover, so you don't know if there was a cake inside.

@Kujamih

Your Pony Sense doesn't tell you anything about the current situation. You know that it's used to detect unexpected things that are going to happen to you in the immediate future, so in this case it probably won't be useful.

Intellect (d3), result: 2. Partial success.

Your careful observation of the princess and the throne room doesn't reveal anything unusual. There's nothing that would suggest it's a setup, Celestia seems to be honest about the situation.

Dr. Clue took down notes about what Celestia said. She decided to bring up what she noticed with the others. "Ok, well that confirms it: The cake was indeed made by the castle bakers. If nopony has any objections, then let's go interview them and see who they assigned to deliver the cake," she explained, leading the way to the castle kitchen. She didn't bring up what she saw yesterday evening with the others yet given that there wasn't enough evidence to prove it. She did write it down in her notebook though.

Samurai wasn't sure what to do. He wasn't exactly known for following the crowd mindlessly. He offered his own contribution, but Kuya said patrolling the castle could have the opposite effect. Dr. Clue is the detective so this kind of case is more her specialty, but she didn't raise any objections about patrolling.

@PawelS

Samurai uses his INTELLECT to see if there is a different avenue where he can do his own investigation.

Dr. Clue glared at Kuya on the walk over, but didn't say anything.

When Dr. Clue arrived, she took a quick look around to see if anything was off. (Roll investigation & intelligence.)

Then she spoke up, "Alright, let's get straight to the point. Celestia's cherry cake never arrived at her quarters yesterday evening. What happened? Who made it and who delivered it?"

@PawelS

Talking to Dr. Clue while she's in the zone doesn't seem proper. Since he can't think of anything better to do... Go with the random option.

Samurai quietly slips away for now. His first destination? THE GIFT SHOP!

He looks over at the flowers on sale. The gift cards. The souvenirs. ...The snacks?

Samurai goes up the clerk behind the desk and asks. "You wouldn't happen to sell cakes here, do you?"

@Kujamih

"Really Kuya? Stop 'investigating' things that have nothing to with the conundrum we are trying to solve. The castle bakers appear busy enough already, we shouldn't bother them with these other things unless if you plan on making other ponies snap at you again, " she said, glaring at Kuya kind of annoyed. "Also, where did Samurai Equine go? Weird. Anyways, back to the task. So who made it and who delivered it?" she asked again.

You can see that the cooks look stressed, even before you ask your questions. Probably the news about the missing cake already reached them. Being questioned by a Royal Guard doesn't help the situation. One of them, an older stallion, looks particularly tense, and answers to you.

"I made it, ma'am. And I gave it to the maid. Her name is Duster Lawn. She was supposed to deliver it to the Princess. I don't know what happened, I know Duster and she is a honest mare. She would never steal anything."

@Kujamih

The cook is surprised that you took the pizza from him. He looks at Dr. Clue, as she is a Royal Guard, and can make this kind of decisions here.

@Samurai Equine

"Of course sir, which one would you like?" The clerk shows you a shelf with several cakes on it. "They are made using Princess Celestia's favorite recipes!"

Kuya was a bit disappointed but he'd go and follow Dr. Clue's orders.

He would return the pizza. " Next time my beautiful round scrumptious meal... Next time... "He said as he returned it.

" Okay there, happy? Let's go meet the maid before I change my mind about the pizza." Kuya said while immediately leaving the kitchen.

Hmm... The gift shop is selling pies. They have a cherry flavor. They use the best ingredients. They follow recipes approved by Celestia herself. What should Samurai do here? Cast the clerk in suspicion? Ask about who makes the cakes? Assume that he is probably innocent?

Roll for INTELLECT.

Dr. Clue can't remember for sure, but she is pretty sure that the maid she saw yesterday was Duster Lawn. Dr. Clue arrives at the maids quarters and looks around for Duster Lawn.

"Alright, let's get straight to the point. Where is Duster Lawn? Celestia's cherry cake never arrived at her quarters yesterday evening. What happened?" Dr. Clue asked.

You are unsure what to think about all this. The theory that one of the cakes sold in the gift shop is stolen from Celestia herself seems rather unlikely to you though.

@Ocean Wavedream

One of the maids who are in the quarters answers your question. "A cake is missing? And Duster has something to do with it?" She seems surprised, it looks like the news haven't spread here yet. "I don't think she would do something like that, I hope it's just a misunderstanding. Anyway, she is currently cleaning the guest rooms in the north wing of the castle. You can meet her there."
