gaming Ten YEARS of One Game!

I found an article on Yahoo News (The worst place for interesting news) about a guy who played in the same match of Civilization II for a full decade! 90% of the world population is dead due to famine and Nuclear Fallout and the other two factions are constantly sending attacks at him.

The guy plays the game bit by bit every now and then, and just wanted to see how the world would end.

As a point of discussion, how many of you think you could keep it going in a single match of a game for ten years?

So far, the closest I've come to that was a match in Rome: Total War that lasted three months, and a game of Sins of a Solar Empire that lasted about the same. I played both games for about an hour per day on weekdays, and several hours on Sat-Sun. I could picture slowing down and making the game last a year, but my patience would die at ten!

I have a very short attention span for stuff like this. I'd give up after like, 2 months or so.

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

I also have a short attention span, hence why all the games i play over the computer go for a short tiem, however i have heard of D&D sessions that have gone for3 years.

I've heard of those kinds of matches. Stuff like that takes serious dedication!

I've had a city in SC 3000 go on for a couple hundred years, game time. (Probably not a whole lot more then 50-60 hours real world time) It gets insanely difficult to keep things going smooth once you run out of space for expansion.

The most I've played a single game was Sins of a Solar Empire, lasted about a week.

I dunno, maybe a few Pokemon matches I've played lasted 30 minutes or so (Vaporeon vs. Vaporeon is the worst! ).

Be happy it wasn't Metapod on Metapod. :(

I have a game of Alpha Centauri still going from almost a year ago. However, I'm no longer playing it since I don't use that computer anymore. I had been playing it for about 2 months when I stopped, though.

i dont useally play grand strategy games too much, but after reading all these stories about epic campaigns, i wanna give it a shot ^_^

My best suggestion is to try the demo for Civ V on Steam. It runs pretty well on most computers and if the 3d is lagging, you can easily change it to a 2d Flash style map.

Mom: Time to go to bed!

Kid: aww come on! Just one more match!

Mom: Alright dear, one more match.

Kid: **trollface**

(edited)

I played a campaign of Medieval 2 total war that lasted almost a year :P That is the longest I have ever devoted to a single game, I think I've clocked in about 350 hours over the year on that damn campaign. It was spread out over the entire year by the way :P I didn't just sit there for 14 days and do nothing but sit at the computer.

I would have played longer, But there was pretty much nothing else to do (I pretty much conquered the entire map lol)

I've got a pretty large campaign going on Shogun 2, but it's not nearly as huge as my Medieval one yet

...how? I always take 3/4 of Europe and end up getting squished by the Timurids!
