Are you excited for the next Nintendo console ?

I'm starting to think that as a nintendo fan and player, i shouldn't let these mixed opinions and what people has to say about switch 2 get to my head so easily. i know i should be deciding for myself if i get the game on launch, but getting it for xmas 2025 would be my plan B if i don't get it at launch.

I'm just excited and eager to look forward to those games anyway, but upgrading the microSD express card, that's 1 thing i need to do and go over. i know the 1TB microSD express card is expensive so i may just get 512GB if i have to.

The 3DS managed to right itself thanks to a price cut, and providing early adopters with ten free GBA games as compensation. Of course, there were no tariffs back then so it was easy for Nintendo to make the cut without losing face. This time around, things won't be as easy for them to overcome.

It might be an uphill battle, sure, but I'm sure they can find a way, fingers crossed with hope. It would be economic *death* if they raised the price instead of lowered it, which they most likely full well know.

If more tariffs get applied which is highly likely, they may have no choice but to raise the price. If they do lower it which is what I and so many people want, Nintendo are going to lose money on every console sold not to mention on every game sold.

Oh, and don't get me started on how retail stores are feeling about all of this.

Raising the price would basically be ensuring that the console rots on shelves and we'd end up with a semi-Wii U situation.

The way I see it, we're very much in a 3DS-style situation, truth be told.

If they dropped it around, say, $350 and the games weren't $80 USD (darn near $100 CAD), then there would never have been such a strong negative reaction to the pricing of it all.

Most people seem fine with the $450 price point. It's the price of the games(which so far is just MK) people take issue with

And given they delayed the tariffs another 90 days, they're trying to get as much stock as possible into the US as possible. There's still a 10% tariff, depending on how much they're already making from the $450, there's a likely chance that initial price is sticking(here's hoping)

I feel like people are still bracing for a price increase because of the tariffs in the future, that's just something that's unfortunately unavoidable

They hid the prices on purpose hoping no one would notice, but consumers ended up noticing as it didn't take very long.

And where did that get them? A massive online backlash. It's so apparent that Doug Bowser was such a poor hiring choice for Nintendo of America.

That was a decision beyond Bowser, given it was also hidden from Japanese and European directs. Sounds like a Furukawa blunder

Let's just hope Furukawa comes to his senses and, fingers crossed, lowers the price.

I'm hopeful that the Switch 2 will eventually find a way to right itself. But I probably am going to wait on buying it until I can pick it up for less. I'm pretty optimistic for the games themselves though.

With the Mario Kart World Direct tomorrow, I'm not sure how Nintendo is going to turn this into a positive. It may even be too late at this point.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well... I'm pretty annoyed and disgusted.

An individual in my family decided to pre-order a launch day Switch 2 when I explicitly and CLEARLY spelt it out to them NOT to do so and to wait months for the all but inevitable price drop. It irks me when people do such things... Makes me go "...Really? And you didn't think to approach me to ask for my permission or lack thereof on this?..." :facehoof:

I got a preorder secured at Gamestop and it's kind of emblematic of the importance of in person shopping. I had a surprisingly good time waiting in line and have always wanted to do a midnight launch

  • 1 month later...

Well... Can't say I'm surprised that the launch  of this console turned out to be an easily-avoidable blunder.

I dislike saying it and it sorta makes me sad to say so, but...

...I very well may have mentally called it, what with the hardware and software pricing, the TOS, the "We'll brick your console if you do this thing!", the day one patch... Yeah, this had and still has "laughable red flag disastrous blunder" written all over it.

I'd be shocked if Doug Bowser and even Furukawa even keep their jobs. I sense that heads are going to roll and they'll have to replace them, hopefully not with a former turd from EA and an *accountant* of all people...! :applejackunsure::facehoof:

Welp.

Said a while ago that I wasn't intent on getting it.

But... Darn it, as "eh" as I was about Splatoon Island at first, the second I saw Shiver and her new outfit in the game, and how cool it looks...

Just when I thought I was out on this, they keep pullin' me back in. :worry::facehoof::ButtercupLaugh:

I was interested in an upgraded version of the Switch when rumors of it came out. Was even willing to pay a slightly higher amount for some minor but necessary upgrades. However, what we got with the Nintendo Switch 2 is not exactly what I thought it would be.

Since some people love the console and some don't, I am a little torn. The price for the console is too high, in my opinion. Some say that the technical improvements are more than worth it; I am just not sure. The state of the games definitely kept me from getting one. I don't like the prices, nor do I like how they are taking game ownership away, making physical game ownership practically pointless. Not that I have anything wrong with the digital "rental" form of ownership, I just think the consumers should have the option of both. If the physical cartridge doesn't actually have a game that you can own forever on it, then what's the point of buying physical at all?

It's not that I am taking a strong stance against owning it, like those influencers on YouTube who ended up getting one after all. I am just not in a hurry. At this point, the only way I could own one is if someone else gives me one as a gift, which is highly unlikely. :ajsmug:
Also, I am just kind of waiting for the ball to drop; to see what the aftermath of the Switch 2 is like. I've heard so many things, so I know something is bound to happen after the hype wears off. I've heard about Nintendo making the Switch 2 way too easy to brick and doing things that are against ownership laws in America, so I want to see if any legal action will be taken against Nintendo, thus forcing them to change the console and their policies. I want to see if the Switch 2 becomes so successful that Nintendo can get away with lowering the price on later releases of the console. I want to see if they cave in to pressure and lower the price of games; which I highly doubt. But something is bound to happen, and I want to see it happen before I consider getting one.

...Also, anyone else been hearing about the XBOX Ally X? :rddetermined:

I never planned on buying it—though regardless of that I was interested to see what Nintendo would come up with for the switch two. And safe to say I'm really disappointed.

The switch two is insanely overpriced. And that doesn't include the individual game prices as well as the online subscriptions and other such purchases. Me buying that now—especially as I'm just entering adulthood sounds like a horrible idea. I'd be broke in ten seconds flat. It would just be overconsumption central on my end. :trixieshiftleft: The price tag on the switch two is also really holding back the culture of handheld consoles; now it costs almost the same amount as the ps5, a full fledged console. It just seems like a stingy cash grab unfortunately. And that's why I don't think I'll ever purchase it. The more people that give in and buy this overpriced handheld, the more OTHER companies (such as xbox or playstation) will see this and overprice their potential handhelds. It shows them that even though the price is huge people will still buy it.

I'm more so looking forward to getting my paws on a psp and steam deck someday. I like the switch I have now anyways, so I don't really feel a need to upgrade. This post isn't an attack on anyone who bought the new switch. It's just my personal opinion and decision. I don't like defending large companies if they pull stuff like this. :ajsleepy:

I saw they didn't fix the fundamental issues with the joycons so they'll still have drifting issues, probably more so in the next few months. Kirby's air ride and Prime 4 are the only games I'm looking forward to but I can wait, or emulate it later on. Current price is too high.
