Tying to G4 was arguably what crippled G5. Letting it stand on its own(even if they reboot existing characters like Transformers always does) would be preferable

Eeeh, none of them 💦 I would like a reboot of G4, I said this months ago and I'll repeat it, the G4 characters and world became too popular, in my opinion, they shouldn't get rid of them, they should continue telling stories with them, even if they reboot the universe, just like Transformers and some other franchises.

As much as I do love G4, I think it's story and characters are all settled and the ending was satisfying. I wouldn't mind seeing some one-off adventures, but that'd probably be in the form of comics, I don't think we'd need a whole other sequel series for that. I think the route I'd want most is a whole new everything, world, characters, worldbuilding for magic and stuff. Like previous generations, it'd be neat if they still reused characters from previous series, but as different adaptations rather than the same character (like how much Applejack and Twilight changed from their G1 counterparts). It'd give the opportunity to pay tribute to and acknowledge previous gens while also introducing new characters and concepts.

G4 will always be Lauren's bebe to me. IMO, much as I love the others, it is by far the best MLP series. She set up a great team (and okay I guess Hasbro people had their part too ) and they delivered way more than three times over what they were expected to with a series more than double the initially expected length, the EQG spin off, the movies. The fact that season 5 is one of the best seasons just shows how amazing their achievement was...

anyhoof, enough praise for G4. It's time for a new pony to take up the mantle. I think GM Berrow and the G5 team did amazingly, but they weren't backed up by delivery from the studio or the promotions and stuff that allowed G4 to thrive. Also, it was inevitably gonna get compared, and while it held up in terms of characters, it didn't hold up in terms of world... and the attempt to connect with G4 only made that worse. I'd like G6 to call back to G1 and cash in on 80s nostalgia (I am biased though), but also because G1 heavily inspired G4 - a world for little girls playing with ponies (and also maybe it could be a lil less heavy on the 'everypony may look different but their abilities are totally the same')

Also apart of team brand new cast. I really dislike when shows keep on with the same things for ages. Out with the old, in with the new.

The rationalist in me says doing something different would be the way to go. But I would be lying if I said I didn't want to see more of the G4 world and characters.
