Every fandom has shippings and this show is no exception. It doesn't matter if it is a "kids show" or if most of the shippings are femaleXfemale. It can and will happen. And I don't think lesbian and homosexual relationships are "unnatural." Since homosexuality has been present in animals for longer than I can imagine, I think they're just as natural as any heterosexual relationship. Rarity outright mentions that she wants a Prince Charming. Twilight Sparkle loves books too much to date, so I think her trying to date anyone would be cute, but awkward. Pinkie is too....Pinkie? And I always though that Fluttershy would be adorable with Big Macintosh. And this is all coming from a lesbian, so eeeeh.... People will pair what they want to pair. By definition it has to include romance (unless it is friendshipping), but shipping and clopfics are not necessarily joined at the proverbial hip. I can imagine a few potential ships which maintain the relative innocence of the show without wandering into nightly mare-a-thons between the bedsheets. It's cute and I like it more than hetero shipping (the only hetero ships I like are RarityxSpike and SoarinxSpitfire(altough RainbowxSpitfire is still better^^)). They will ship two people based upon nothing more than a casual glance. WHY would Gilda and Rainbow Dash get together? Why would ANYONE love Trixie? Is there a purpose for Celestia getting it on with Twilight? Other than that, Shipping is fair game. Just keep it consistent with characterization. While I like the prospect of having plots that don't underestimate younger kids, I do have to draw the line somewhere. I mean seriously, a kid's show with a homosexual character? That would never work... I'm not exactly sure how that wouldn't work. Sure, maybe years ago, people would have had a huge problem with homosexual characters in a children show, but now, homosexuality is more acceptable now than it ever was. I think maybe there might be a problem with religious watchers, or just haters in general, but I think it, for the most part it would be good for the show. It would make it more diverse. It's not really for morality reasons, mind you, it's, as I mentioned, for canonical reasons; I find lesbian shippings to be even less true to characters than some of the heterosexual shippings.
