I would love if they did an episode made up of a bunch of short stories featuring some of the various background characters (sort of like the Avatar: The Last Airbender episode Tales of Ba Sing Se but focusing more on the supporting cast) I think that they could showcase the lesser characters that are popular with the fans but still keep those characters kind of in the background because they would only be focusing on them for a few minutes at most.

They're background ponies and they should stay there.

 

I don't see the problem with a few of the background characters getting their own episodes, or getting some degree of character development. It would be nice to get to know the residents of Ponyville beyond one scene or one line taken way out of context by the 4Chan members.

 

I mean, it's better than just having some random unknown pony or character who was never mentioned before at all, just show up out of the blue and interact with one of the mane 6 for a half hour. This has happened numerous times in the series, by the way, and the ONLY two ponies that people really seem to like out of this group (besides Derpy, and everyone here knows why she's popular) are Shining Armor and Cadance (you can tell this by the sheer number of topics centering around those two). And even THAT made me raise the BS flag, when we found out about them at the END of Season 2, and there was NO PRIOR MENTION of them before then, even in the abstract.

 

But what really bothers me is they use these characters that were never seen before their episodes, instead of using the actual residents of Ponyville, who seem more interesting. Yeah, let's NOT use characters that the mane 6 walk past and see in town all the time, that'd make too much sense.

I think it would be lovely to have a episode featuring the background ponies but before we could do any of that: AN AJ EPISODE (where she's singing her own song)

 

It would be kind of awesome to have the background ponies create a suprise for the mane 6 (because if you had to fill an episode with just one pony it is bound to be disappointing and unfair)

I'd like to see an episode combining the BG ponies and the Mane 6. That or an episode where each pony talks about themselves in detail-about their parents, origins, hometown, etc. (including BG ponies, of course).

But, I think it was obvious Derpy would win from the start of this thread.

I'd like to see an episode with one or two of the backround ponies in the spotlight. From the list I'd have to choose either Vinyl Scratch or Octavia, and I think that they could make an episode focused on them.

 

Although not from the list are the princesses and Big Mac. I'd really like to see an episode with Big Mac as the main character: the plot could be something like he just goes around town doing favors but we can hear his thoughts and he's all intelligent, has an old british accent and uses big words.

 

With the princesses they could make a sort of "A Day in the Life of a Princess" episode where they just show all of the princesses going about there day (and night because of Luna) and at the end Celestia could get a letter from Twilight that is supprisingly relevant to what was going on that day.

Which character who isn't in the mane 6, spike, or fan created (ie. Dr. whooves, Derpy, DJ pon3/vinyl scratch) and doesn't already have their own episode should get their own episode?

I think Flim and Flam (I'm counting them as one pony) should have their own episode. Maybe with a new invention and a new scam.
