Simcity11100 772 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 The fan base is the biggest problem in my opinion, R34 should never get added, can be to nice sometimes, not enough females and many more things that could be said.
Titan Rising 2,156 July 13, 2012 Author Share July 13, 2012 (edited) I don't know if anypony mentioned it before, but at Bronycon, Lauren Faust put emphasis that this show was since day 1 intended for girls and that it shows different aspects in their life as girls, she also said that all her work is towards girls and the fandom completely took her by surprise. I don't know about that... I have read numerous articles/posts of her's saying she wanted to make the show so that everyone could enjoy it - so that adults and children could enjoy it even with younger girls... Many of her posts on deviant art suggest to me she feels very strongly about this whole gender stereotype thing, hence why she's supporting that (in my opinion ridiculous) brony documentary. Honestly, do we need all these threads about why to not like MLP? Can't we just... you know... like it? I dunno what "all these threads" are referring to, but there's no reason why someone can't like something and give constructive criticism Edited July 13, 2012 by Hollowshield
Doctor XFizzle 8,669 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 About the show - Not enough stallions - AJ needs more character depth - Trixie is still alive About the fandom - Bronies need to stop automatically labeling someone who just doesn't care for the show as a hater/troll. If they gave the show a shot and still didn't enjoy it, fine, that's their opinion. - Art fans are too damn meticulous about data accuracy. I've made a bunch of novelty drivers' licenses for each pony, like the ones you see in a gift shop that are like of celebrities and such. They're for fun and are certainly not canon. You wouldn't believe the amount of comments I've received on them like "Uh, that's not their birthday" "Wtf, her eyes are aqua, not blue" and so on. Enjoy the damn art for what it is and don't crap on it because there's a speck of inaccuracy on something that doesn't even matter. MyLittleCell 106 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 I'm not exactly sure where Love and tolerate came from, but some of the episodes (The sleepover one in particular) Talk about accepting people for who they are, and not to fight just because their different. What irks me is people who straight hate Cloppers. I understand where your coming from. But It doesn't affect you, does it?
Slipstream 84 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 (edited) Just the general stuff, the weird pony porn, the aggressive fans, the people who make those of us casually enjoying a fun little aesop comedy look bad. Nothing about the show is really to blame there; it's just fans taking things too far. Actually yes, for the show: more colts. Featherweight, the Flim Flams, Snips and Snails, and a greater Big Mac part has helped with this(also Time Turner!) but Spike being the only major male kind of skews things. Still, though, I recall Lauren stating that the point she wanted to get across is "there's no wrong way to be a girl," and you don't need a ton of huge spotlight males for that. Edit edit: SHINING ARMOR. He needed his girlfriend to help him defeat the evil, but he was still very powerful and very awesome. A step in the right direction, maybe? Tupin86 195 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 (edited) The show: Mainly just the occasional weak lesson and animation errors. The fandom: Where do I start? - Anti-rule 34 people who think people who like it "ruin the show" and ostracize them - Pro-rule 34 people who call people who don't enjoy it "prudes" and ostracize them - Racial discussions about humanizations - Elitism for doing or not doing something in the fandom (liking r34, cosplay, conventions) - Lack of subtlety from both sides expressing their hate/love - Taking the show too seriously - Assuming that any candy coated rainbow world is Equestria (Meet the Pyro) - People who can't let others make a joke about bronies - Shoving the show in the faces of people who have given it a try and don't like it - "Love and tolerate" - People who care so much about what a stranger on the Internet does in their free time - People who think they have to "defend" the fandom for their own image The last one really confuses me. Like you can't just say, "no, I'm not thatkind of fan?" The odds of it being brought up in conversation are pretty slim, anyway. Oh, and one last thing. I cannot stand when people use "everypony" when referring to humans. It just sounds so weird and unnatural when it's not coming from the mouth of a pony on the show. I groan every time I see it used in that context. Edited July 13, 2012 by Tupin86

Zeruis 53 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 The only thing I dislike about the fan base is that bronies sometimes take a character and develop him/her into something totally different. I understand the idea of giving the characters beyond in-depth personality, but it just ruins it for me.
Raptor 9 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 Show ofcourse isn't perfect, but nothing there that really bothers me. for fandom. people complain about stupid **** way to much. and people love to throw around the term Rule 34 but yet seem to have no grasp on what it actually is. Rule 34: there is porn of it, NO EXCEPTIONS. if you can't handle that, you need to shut down your internet now and go live under a rock, or get over it. porn exists in EVERY fandom. and existed long before the internet was created. and if you think that because its ponies, its wrong, trust me, there is worse stuff out there. any one that knows about doujins knows what i mean. its not hurting you, or anyone. whining about it makes you no better then the other haters spamming "gay" on anything pony related out there. on the supposedly "shoving ponies in other people's faces". 1, having a pony avatar isn't forcing it in other's faces. 2, neither is commenting on a video about how a pony vid brought you there. 3, niether is supposed "Ponifications". that stuff happens with all fandoms. people enjoy the show and want to share it with others. its natural, its called being a fan. just because its pony doesn't make it automatically bad. and on the third bit above, don't go around complaining about it and then treat any of the reverse as acceptable. thats just being a hypocrit. if ponifying something is wrong, then so is bringing other fandoms into pony. thats mean Dr Hooves is wrong, that means the trailers are wrong, or PMVs or any pony vid using music or sound clips from some other movie, show or video game. or any piece of fan art showing ponies looking like characters from a game/movie/book/etc. or crossover fics. if you want to go around saying "stop putting ponies in everything" then you also need to say "keep you fandom out of ponies"

Street Comedy 327 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 I see plenty of threads all the time praising the show and its fans so this is gonna be a little different. This threads all about the things you don't like about the show and fanbase, where you think it could improve, and reasons why you believe other people would be... less inclined... to watch it or call themselves a fan. I'll start: The show: -I don't like how it's supposedly a cartoon for everyone but males horses are largely excluded. Obviously I'm not saying there needs to be a male character, but at least maybe some more male interaction here and there. -I don't particularly care for Rarity but I don't think she's been given enough opportunities to properly show her generosity, the same goes for Rainbow Dash's loyalty and Applejacks honesty -I feel it's a bit inconsistent when it comes to Rainbow Dash's speed but it's a cartoon so whatever The fanbase: -"Rule 34" and any sexualization of the characters -The word brony, I dunno I just don't like it -The "brony" community tends to label every fim fan as a brony -"Bronies" can be extremely extreme with their dedication to the show that it comes off as creepy -I don't like or understand the whole "love and tolerate" thing, as if loving and tolerating are even really messages the show tries to deliver. I actually feel like its fueling the "politically correct" fire more than anything Yes, there's going to be Rule 34, there is Rule 34 in any fandom, hence Rule 34: No Exceptions. The Mane 6 isn't perfect, the whole show literally revolves around them improving in their special elements, this is a flaw though. Considering Twilight has has like, 9 episodes for her and Applejack has only had 4 or 5. The lack of stallions is because it's A LITTLE GIRL SHOW. Yes, I know there is the whole "but Faust designed it for all ages! Hurr durr." That is correct, but I can guarantee you that the show hasn't strayed from the series' roots, little girls are going to want to see colorful, female ponies instead of a stallion. I'll agree with the term brony and how overused it is, let people say what they want to say. If they want to call themselves and every other fan of the show the meet "bronies", that's their choice. Just like my point on Rule 34, there is going to be those diehard fans in any fandom. You really can't complain about this.
Dr3adnaught 16 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 Show: The intro is kinda cheesy Don't like Nightmare Moon Technology development changes from old to modern to often, keep it same throught episodes Needs moar Applejack Needs moar Luna Fandom: Braggers Gorefics Crossovers(keep your hooves away from my Doctor Who) How most think if you enjoy FiM automatically makes you a brony/pegasister I really don't mind Rule 34, but as long as people don't constantly annoy me about it, I'm okay with it. Raritas 6,820 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 Not sure if anyone else put this but personally, I think that in a *COUPLE* of episodes, they story lines can be a bit predictable. For example the one with the cider competition in season 2, its obvious whats gunna happen as I have seen that sort of thing before in a cartoon (SpongeBob). Other than that, its a great show, I just ment a couple of episodes. "Sometimes I wish I could imagine myself 10 years from now, out of college, living life without boundaries. But, at the end of the day, it's just a step closer to the future. The future tends to unfold as it should... well, at least I think it does." - Kitty0706
Spring Storm 276 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 I have to honestly agree- no shows perfect. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?src_vid=q3cNsUI7VLU&annotation_id=annotation_530009&v=4b5ZjGdjz1k&feature=iv"]http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?src_vid=q3cNsUI7VLU&annotation_id=annotation_530009&v=4b5ZjGdjz1k&feature=iv] Look at that, for example. I have to say the show could improve on animation a bit more. Thats my only objection. Geez. I've noticed a few of these, but the vast majority usually slip past me XD There are only a few things I wish the show would improve on: 1. More Apple family, and more characterization for Applejack (and a song for Pete's sake!) 2. More male characters. I know the show is geared toward young girls, but that doesn't mean we can't have at least a couple more stallions. 3. The most common error I notice is recycled background ponies. I've seen, like, three Derpies in one shot. I know animation is a long process, so occasional laziness is forgivable, but it would still be nice if they didn't do this. That said, I don't think any of these are reasons to not like MLP; just ways in which I think the show can be perfected ^^ Together since October 19th, 2011
Retro*Derpy 3,185 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 The show: I don't really like the intro that much :S and i keep noticing how applejack's freckles keep missing almost every time she runs. The fanbase: As stated before, R34. Don't like it, and i think it is wrong to "enjoy" it. This also including clopfics. I also don't like bronies that take the show too far, for example: OMG THIS IS THE ONLY SHOW I WATCH CUZ ITS AMAZING EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS. This really shows the world how we are.*sarcastic* I also don't like bronies that think they are above other bronies, and there reason be "Just because"
Matti 4 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 The only legitimate reason I found for not liking the show is if you are deceased. I mean, sure there are a few flaws and cheeky production cover-ups, but if you find any mistakes, then I can assure you that any other cartoon would have the same mistakes. Solar Wind 595 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 (edited) Nothing is perfect if they tried to make the show to everyones liking it would be terrible. You cant please everyone. Seriously dont any of you guys read Twilight letters!? Also about the stallions. NO bad idea. Lets face it the girl characters have been established if they added more guys than that would mean MORE shppings. I only like the Soarin dash shipping because they are good together but other than that guys would upset the delicate ecosysytem. Edited August 27, 2012 by SolarWind See, I'm Greed. Twi Rubix 726 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 Yeah, nothing is perfect. The show and community has its flaws. - The term "Everypony" is something I got used to, but I still feel it sounds ridiculous. - Like alot of other said, shoving it down people's throats. That's the main complaint I hear from haters. - I don't want to ban R34, but I do hate it, especially when some males get attracted to the ponies more than humans, and wanna... Y'know... - I'm personally not fond of Shipping. - Some bronies think they're cool for watching something like this, and showing it off and everything when they're just like everyone else... My biggest complaint is probably that most of the fans seem to overreact to ALOT of things that I find minor. Vinyl Scratch's Shades off. Okay, we see her eyes... So what? Lyra + Humans. Okay, she sat on a bench like a human one time... So what? Octavia. Derpy's voice change. People completely lost it at this one. It's fine because there was concern with her for some (Even though I disagree), and Hasbro couldn't just ignore them. She isn't gonna talk anymore anyway. Fluttershy's signature "Yay". It's cute and all, and I like it, but I see it almost everywhere.

I can relate a lot to these two lol. First time I heard "everypony" in the show I was laughing so hard lol, and it doesn't really bother me but I just find it hilarious whenever people say it and really mean it. SOUPS ON EVERRRPONEYYYY And yeah I don't understand why people overreact to minor stuff like Lyra sitting on a bench... Like it's a cute little thing to talk about a few times when it happened or whatever but seeing people bring it up over and over and over and over again just gets to be redundant and a waste of time... and kinda annoying... months after it happened. null1 606 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 The Crystal Ponies Ballad, which I've seen only once, the overt singing and dancing (nodding heads) in unison was rather goofy and way to damn girly. Don't get me wrong, I think Pinkie Pie's 'Smile Song' is the Bohemian Rhapsody of music, but the Crystal Ponies song didn't go well with me.
