I gutted a deer once... well, I helped. it didn't bother me but it smelled pretty bad. haha.

Yeah it is pretty gruesome, my dad helped me gut mine right on the hill I shot it on. The guts rolled out in a ball, it was nasty.

I've never been that interested in hunting. When I have a gun, I want to shoot something right then, preferably a clay pigeon, or something else that will break/burst/explode in a satisfying way when I hit it. My dad and uncles do some hunting, though, and I love me some moose steak.

 

Only time I think I've killed something was when I was on a 4 day survival campout with the boy scouts, and since we were all unprepared and incompetent, it was basically 4 days of no food. So one of the leaders drove to his farm and came back with some chickens, and I gladly beheaded them all with my machete, then helped to pluck, gut, and cook them. Best damn chicken breast I've ever had

I used to like catch-and-release fishing until one of my fish swallowed the hook and died. It devastated me for some reason, I started crying, and I couldn't do it anymore. Now I'd just hate myself if I ever hunted/sported animals. Not going to push my views on anyone else, though.

I've hunted all ma life. I personally have only one animal, a 4 pointer buck that I got last shotgun season. My family has always eaten what we've killed, never just killed because we can. Venison is quite delicious :3

I haven't really gone in a while, and never even seen anything, let alone shot an animal. I don't see why people are opposed to hunting, there's a difference between those who thin out overpopulated animals like Deer or Pheasants, eat and maybe have fun, and those who hunt only to get the head of a rare animal, which are the scumbags of the hunting community.

I've been on a few turkey hunts before. Never had an interest in hunting that much because it's so damn regulated. I would hunt for my survival though, since the law wouldn't really matter at that point. Where I live, there's plenty of deer, even in my own neighborhood. There have been chances where I could literally open my back door and shoot a deer with my rifle while sitting in a chair watching ponies.

I took up hunting last year. I went pheasant and duck hunting. I killed two pheasants, which were delicious! On the duck hunt, I shot a goose and it went down, but when I went to go get it, it got up and flew away.

Next hunting season, I'm going to go deer hunting, hopefully. I tried to go last year, but I screwed up my tags and couldn't get anyone go come with me to the wmu where I had tags. I don't own a gun and since I don't have my PAL, I can't actually take a gun anywhere without its owner.

As soon as I'm confident enough to go alone, I want to get a rifle and shotgun. I learned how to use a crossbow and those things are awesome, too! Haven't tried a vertical bow yet. I really want to get bows and crossbows for the zombie apocalypse, too.

IRL nope, hunting is not common in my country and I couldn´t kill an animal, but I like to shoot targets, but I have a choice to go shooting just time to time so..

I have hunted in the past..mainly just rabbits and I did take down a deer once...it was kind of fun, we camped out in a forest for a week with Bows and crossbows, we each had a hunting knife too, to gut and skin the animals for cooking..we lived off that food for a while, scavenging garlic leaves and various berries to have with the meat <3

 

Hunting with bows and crossbows is fun...I think it is better than hunting with guns..they're loud and smell weird.

More seriously, I don't see why people are still hunting these days. You don't need it, there is a whole bunch of other activities who makes you discover nature with more efficiency and, the most boring point for me, there is no real challenge in it. Well... except if you go in Rambo style ofc

Hunting for food is much more eco friendly than relying on factory farms and ranches. The hunter from hunting licenses is the primary source of income to maintain most of these wild areas, plus you go in, harvest your animal, and leave with very little impact on the habitat. The animals themselves have a much higher quality of life and are killed humanely, as opposed to animals living in unsanitary and cramped quarters on the factory farms where 99% of people get their meat.

 

As for there being no challenge, I'm guessing you've never actually hunted? I'm learning to hunt after never having hunted my entire life, and there's definitely skill involved. Certainly more skill than picking up a package of processed meat from the grocery store.

My point was more around: why using guns against bunnies and birds? It's a bit extreme for a sport no? It's like using TNT to open a can of food imo.

 

And I did go hunting one or two times with my archery club. I find it really boring and not really hard at all, most of the time you just have to spot something, approach it silently and wait for a good oportunity to hit a vital point for a quick death and I heard it's even easier when you have a trained dog with you so... Meh...
