Nope.avi. Nothing in the slightest is mentioned about Dashie's family. We know nothing about her parents, if she has any siblings, etc etc. She's a loner in her epic cloud home, and that's all we know. I wonder what they'd look like, personally. She's a rainbow pony, that stuff doesn't just happen by accident...does it?

It's hard to tell. It seems that ponies grow up to be absolutely nothing like their parents.

 

Pinkie's parents were rock farmers, Rarity's had nothing to do with fashion, and Twilight's didn't really look all that magical, despite Shining Armor's magical ability.

 

I would think that Rainbow Dash had some very strict parents, causing her to be very relaxed when they weren't around, like a college freshman.

You know, what people are saying here. That might make a very good episode. At first Rainbow wants nothing to do with her parents being them strict and like total oposites or something like that. Then something happens. And in the Rainbow learns that family is an important thing and they her family will always love her and her parents will always be there for her.

I find it hard to believe abandonment and not keeping in touch on their end is something her parents would do. Yeah she's a daredevil tomboy but that's not something to not keep in contact with your child about. To me it's far more likely that Dash flew the coop and got her own place as soon as she was able to, because she wants to pursue her dream of being a Wonderbolt. The parents probably keep in touch somehow, we just haven't witnessed it, because it has yet to have plot value in the show. Perhaps in the future we'll get more back story on Dash, and see or hear about them.

If you think about it, there are only two mane 6 characters who's pedants you never see (excluding applejack, be she lives with granny smith) and that's fluttershy and rainbow dash, maybe it is common for a Pegasus to leave their perants to go to flight school.

 

I think that rainbow dash' perants are nothing like her personality wise, but they will look similar.

And as it turns out, Spike is actually Gummy's son and gummy is owned by pinkie pie. BUT PINKIE PIE is actually Zecora's daughter and we all know that Zecora was creates from the earth, but the earth was created by Spike. So Gummy is actually a Titan. Maybe RD's parents are dead or something it could be implied since she doesent even mention them at all or perhaps shes an orphan I dont know im just taking shots in the dark.

 

Though I would have to agree with her mother and father being strict with her during her fillyhood giving her a carefree nature when RD is a mare.

RD's father I've alway's imagined has a white-gray coat with a hint of blue, with a gray, short, perfectly straight mane, with a very serious demeanor, fairly brash, but prone to dreaming and philosophizing. He'd be a retired judge who still writes articles on Equestrian jurisprudence and even has his own op-ed column in Cloudsdale's local newspaper. The kicker is that he's named White Whizzer.

Her mother, however, was the real athlete of the family-- competitive, action-oriented, and also responsible for controlling the weather like her son is now-- but she died shortly after RD was born. RD's father also had strong athletic orientations, but never as fully developed as his wife, and wanted to "preserve her influence", so to speak, in the growth of Dash, so he did whatever he could to get him to love action-- through flight camp, playing sports with him, etc.

This is my drawing of what I think her mom looks like. She's a coach and I imagine her being tough like Dash. Though, I love all of the other depictions of Dash's mom. It's just my own go at it I drew a couple weeks ago. It's sloppy, sorry.

 

No idea what her dad would be like.

I could imagine Dash's parents to be a very restrictive, conservative type. They were workers in the weather factory, but not the pegasi who flew out and arranged the storms and weather out in the open. They were the ones who did the tedious work like snowflake creation or stirring the rainbows, etc.

 

A theory that I have was that they may have even been quite carefree at first, bringing their filly Rainbow Dash to the factory one day and accidentally let her fall into a vat of rainbows. (staining her mane permanently a rainbow color) And ever since, became protective of their filly by being restrictive. (It also would work as Rainbow Dash also is very familiar with the weather factory layout so she apparently has connections to get herself in) As a response, Dash becomes more rebellious, especially after seeing a Wonderbolts performance for the first time, and after dropping out of flight school, left them as soon as she could for an open air weather job. Eventually winding up as Weather Captain for Ponyville.

 

However, I don't think she doesn't love her parents and their efforts to protect her. In fact, she may have defended Fluttershy because it reminded Dash of her mother, who may have also been a weak flier.

 

In any case, an episode with more insight on Rainbow Dash's past would be amazing, and probably touching. I really am waiting to see what they will do in Season 3, because it's likely that they will.

So then, why did they name her Rainbow Dash? Unless she had a different name before that happened--what would her former name be?

 

And I love how in your theory Fluttershy reminds Dash of her mother and thus defended her against the bullies.
