My first vector

So last night I got the notion to write a new fanfiction. I looked around for artwork I could use as a preview picture. I was looking specifically for someone colored like Silverspeed. Being unable to find anything worthwhile, I decided to brazenly undertake the task of learning how to vector. (Which is WAY easier than I was led to believe.)

 

Anyway, working a bit last night just tinkering and figuring things out, and working off and on today, mostly on the freakin' eyes. I have finished my first vector image and I would like to share it with you guys.

 

The base image I used was found in the #MLP-VectorClub on deviantArt. And is the first attachment.

 

The second is my attempt to recreate that image. (With a bit of flair in the hair and colored like Silverspeed.) *And now that I look at the preview I notice that she doesn't have any eyebrows.*

 

Anyway, I was just looking to share my first with the community as I am quite proud of a little bit of hard work paying off in such a neat way.

Mgnificent! I would love to be able to do art like that but the only thing I can do is make song lyrics and beats and stuff. I tried and failed at art but this looks really cool!

Thanks guys. And I have to admit this isn't my first time doing something that requires great attention to detail and neatness. I took several drafting classes in high school and sort of honed my focus. We always had a saying in the class. Every draft comes down to three things. Detail, neatness and accuracy. I like to think there's a life lesson that I kept with me in there as well. haha

@, I used Inkscape. And I totally cheated on the eyes. They're supposed to sit on the same layer but each part of the eye is a different layer.

Nice going! I'll say that's a lot better than any of my vectors. Btw is that an OC or just a gray Rainbow Dash?

You can't cheat in vectors.

Looks good as a first, most newbies get confused with the pen tool and the bezier curves. As usual, work on lowering your anchor points, keep practicing, etc.

@, She's a bit of an OC but she's colored exactly like Silverspeed. Silverspeed is mentioned by Dash during the Hurricane Fluttershy episode. I'm using Silver's base and Flitter's cutie mark (Three dragonflies) to make a (maybe) one time use OC for a fic. Dorothy Shimmer. I'll be calling her Dot. She'll be playing the role of double agent in my super secret spy novel attempt.

This is a really good vector. I see that a rainbow dash base is excellent to use. I really like the way you did the lines and the eyes came out pretty good. I did notice that YOU noticed that you forgot the eyebrows, but he, if you didnt say that, i wouldnt have cought it. So really cool work. Keep it up.

So I felt strange having vectored something that wasn't an OC as my first go round. So I redid my OC that was in my avatar and came out with this. Had a bit of trouble with his legs but overall I like it. And someone found me a proper detective's hat for the cutie mark.

I would be happy to critique your efficiency if you want toattach the .svg ill check it for node errors and things you could do differently to save time

 

I'm on a mobile device right now but i can definitely see some simple errors in your strokes
