Reuel(Crystal Slave) 287 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 (edited) My second attempt (ever) at drawing MLP characters. I did it because... I wanted to. Haha, anyway, here you go. I took good advice and stopped using black to outline, but I couldn't figure out how to do anything but soft shading. Further critique would be great! Yup, I made a DeviantArt in case I ever get really good at this. ~SadisticFluttershy~ 779 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 Now that's very good! I agree with Motion Spark. I am attempting to draw fluttershy with a pencil and a picture online.. So far i'm worried that i'll get negative responses, that it's bad or something. (Sorry that was off topic) 2 Thanks MiniKirby! It's soooooo awesome! "Enough Chitchat time is candy!".- Pinkie Pie. PegasisterTaco 318 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 ...This... Is... Amazing! For a second attempt, this is actually really good. You should make more because this is FAR beyond amazing for a second attempt. I really do favor that backround for Rarity. Great job! 1 Life is an adventure. Thank you! I'm hoping that I can get to the point where I can consistently draw really well and develop my own style. It'll take work, because I still feel a little artistically challenged, but I'll get there! This is an attempt... This is freaking amazing man! Modphase 1,271 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 It looks really good! You did a great job on the shading, and I really like how you did the eyes. Overall great work, you should do this more often!

Dasher 119 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 (edited) Amazing if this is your second attempt then what will your last attempt look like. My second attempt (and at the moment last) was not even close to as good as yours is. Edited September 3, 2012 by Dasher
Reuel(Crystal Slave) 287 September 3, 2012 Author Share September 3, 2012 This is amazing. What do people use to make fan art? I can't believe this is your second time drawing ponies. You are great! I am super jelly right now XD. My process goes like this (and it's longer than it would take with a tablet, which I don't have). Sketch Scan Outline in Gimp (freeware program comparable to photoshop) (I use mouse + shift to do straight lines and outline quickly.) Fill lined areas with basic, flat colors Refine everything with various tools Add shading using soft brushes and dodge/burn tool Last minute touches Add a background (I've been keeping a transparent background until the pony is done so far). Hope that's helpful! Fantastic! You've got excellent skills for that being just an "attempt". I can't wait to see some of your next drawings. Keep up the good work bro! ~~ Thank you, awesome to see that you enjoy my work. I'm gonna get right down to work on a new one now, featuring my favorite pony, Pinkie. Possibly Applejack or another of the mane six as well. Amazing if this is your second attempt then what will your last attempt look like. My second attempt (and at the moment last) was not even close to as good as yours is. Message me with your drawings! Writer 41 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 Excellent job with the drawing, though next time go a little easier with the shading, and use bolder lines if you're trying for 'show accuracy'. The amount of shading you have right now makes it look like she's covered in dirt. Overall, good job.
Psych Ward 377 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 It still looks like a pony. XD Great improvement from only two tries. moneyshredderofdeath 414 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 The front left leg looks a bit odd in terms of position, at least to me. That's the most noticeable criticism which comes to mind. Still really like it though, the coloring is very nice and certainly I'm interested to see where you go from here.

Well, it was meant to be slightly above the ground, though you can't really tell due to lack of ground or a shadow on the floor. But thanks for the tip, I'll try to make sure my next one looks better! My Music Channel
Jokuc 8,174 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 It looks really good actually! Nice work on the shading and stuff. It looks like the front leg is the wrong shape but it's not much of a big deal. Maybe you could have worked more on the eyes
Hazardus_Havard. 480 September 3, 2012 Share September 3, 2012 You should have made this with the BBC to Deviant Art to link it back straight to your image. Anyways, I feel the right side of her bodies legs should be moved in closer to her since it looks awkward how her legs bend and it doesn't appear like she's got them on anything, like they're floating in air. Also try next time adding in some whites in her sclera beside her iris to make them richer in detail. Practice makes perfect; but if nobody's perfect, why practice? http://hazardus-havard.deviantart.com/ Art http://www.fimfiction.net/story/70801/an-alien-walks-amongst-us Story
Enigma 200 September 4, 2012 Share September 4, 2012 Awesome! o u o Looks like you're time to go into detail! Also, remember to make it clearer where the hooves are pointing. For shading, just try not using any blending tools and see how you go with that? Use low opacities to build it a kind of gradient. Lastly, try playing with the colours for tonality. E.g. desaturated blue-purple for shades, light and bright yellow-orange for highlights? Remember that when the light source is warm the shades are cold, and when the light source is cold the shadows are warm. 1 "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma."
