I_wesley125 393 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 (edited) So i posted this on bungie.net but it got locked(they hate bronys there). So i know there are quite a few of these out there but i thought i would try to make my own version. Currently this is still a draft so any recommendations about how i should correct it are welcome. There are 2 phases the person will go through, phase one is becoming a brony and phase 2 is what will happen after they become a brony. Phase one, Stage one. The person is anti- brony, they hate and/or talk down to or have contempt for bronys and/or the show. This stage can be skipped if the person does not have an underlying distaste for bronys and/or the show. Many bronys may remain in this stage publicly as they are embarrassed about it, they may even move through all the stages but still tell people that they are anti-brony. (There is nothing to be embarrassed about) Phase one, Stage two. The person is neutral to the show and perhaps they are curious about it. People who have not heard of the show are in something i refer to as stage 0. Phase one, Stage three. The person agrees to watch the show, either with himself or someone who is pushing the show on him. They may be reluctant, passive or willing. In the event that they enjoy the show they will most likely move on to phase two or they may not. Phase two, Stage one. At this point they are a brony, whether they call themselves that or not. They most likely have a favorite pony at this point and they may be interested in the shows trivia, they may join a forum and get involved with the community. Phase two, Stage two. At this stage(assuming they are not embarrassed by it) they will most likely come out about there "bronyhood" and possibly try to encourage others to watch the show. Although it is ok to encourage others to watch, they have a tendency to push the show on others, this is not recommended as it gives bronys a bad reputation and makes others hate you. Phase two, Stage 3. The brony may begin creating fan material(fanfic, art, etc.) if they are creative, if not they will begin familiarizing themselves with the show's trivia even more so then other stages. They may begin to decorate with MLP related material(although this is not common, as it will most likely be limited to desktop background, phone background ect.) They may begin collecting MLP related items etc. Phase two, Stage 4. Few people make it to this stage, at this point they attend conventions, LARP, join clubs and associate with other members of the herd. Phase two, Stage 5. Even fewer people make it this this stage then stage 4, this is the ultimate MLP fan. They may get tattoos related to the show, they know everything there is to know about the show. They are often looked down upon, even by other bronys. It was like 3 am when i made this so don't be surprised if it sucks. Killian Jones 2,655 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 I never went through any of that. To me it was more like "Hey the internet is talking a lot about these ponies" "Maybe I can see what all the fuss is about" At this point I watched the first episodes. I wasn't convinced but I was like: "Hey, let's see where this goes..." And then you realize you watched all the episodes and have an exam in two days. Procrastination forever! Slendermane 477 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 I never went through Phase 1 Stage 1. I never hated the show or bronys. My reaction was, "Wait, you mean that bad show from the 80's? People actually like that?" Then I started seeing comics and PMVs. It was when I found out it was by Lauren Faust that I decided to try it myself. I am a Phase 2 Stage 3 brony. Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
HanPolo 151 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 Ive zoomed through decorating myself with MLP things, and im bordering on stage 4. I would attend brony meets, but theres pretty much no open ones to attend in the UK other than in london. I also hate traveling alone. Great system, im gonna use it in arguments with non bronies. Ill just mutter "He's a phase 1, stage 1... Stage 2 will take place soon..." (Dont know if you noticed, but you put the whole thing down twice )
a1763342 38 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 (edited) By your description, I guess I'd have to say I'm between "Phase two, Stage 3" and "Phase two, Stage 4." However, I don't think I'd ever LARP. :I Edited January 5, 2012 by Heart
Killian Jones 2,655 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 I agree with Heart, while there are varying degrees of being a fan. I would not claim it is a linear progress. But rather a multidimensional graph.

Radiance64 7,053 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 That's pretty much how I went through it. I'd say I'm probably at 2-1 now.
Colon Leftbracket 971 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 I'd say I'm at P2S3 according to your linear process. Though I guess I skipped P2S2 "being open about being a Brony" I skipped this step because my hometown just isn't cultured enough to fathom something that has nothing to do with booze, weed, and sex (not that any of the above is a bad thing mind you)! There are only a few people I actually like from my hometown, but they aren't what I'd call Brony material. I'll tell them if they ask me about it and I'll recommend the show to them, but I'm hoping their reaction will be more of a, "Well the show isn't bad, but not my kind of thing... if you like it that's great Bronies are great people! Come on let's go rob a gas station!" [New siggy in progress!]

Ezynell 2,037 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 (edited) Phase two, Stage 3. The brony may begin creating fan material(fanfic, art, etc.) if they are creative, if not they will begin familiarizing themselves with the show's trivia even more so then other stages. They may begin to decorate with MLP related material(although this is incredibly common. Everypony does this. Why would you be designing fan-art and not using it? And BTW it is not only Desktops and stuff, it is EVERY ELECTRONIC DEVICE THAT BRONIES CAN GET THEIR HANDS ON. (sometimes even including non-brony electronical devices.)) They may begin collecting MLP related items etc. fixed your post, that was the only thing wrong. Other than that, great job! Arylett Charnoa 4,919 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 (edited) Hey, this is what I went through! At first, I was like... "Ponies? What?" And I was kind of hating although more like to myself than outwardly since I don't like to insult people for me disliking their interests since that is rude. I watched, became hooked, got crazy open and not really caring about who knows anymore, and here I am! Pretty accurate stuff. At least to me. Phase 2, Stage 3 here. Big on the fanart. Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 I don't consider myself in any specific stage. I haven't attended any meets up but I sure am willing to try one. My dedication to ponies has surpassed that of gaming...and you all know how much I like Halo There are a few more stages that I might consider myself in, though are not listed. Apple Bloom 2,933 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 (edited) I'm pretty much at stage 4. I'm completely open about being a brony. I collect the toys. I buy custom merch. I wear pony t-shirts. I make fanart. The only thing keeping me from being a 4 is I haven't been to a convention/meetup yet, but it's only a matter of time. I've already joined the North Florida meetup group on Facebook. Kyreth 194 January 5, 2012 Share January 5, 2012 I think I would go to meets and clubs and stuff but there don't seem to be any (that I've heard of) in my area. I guess that would put me somewhere between stages 3 and 4 I can't make signatures. Sooo... yeah
