While really inconvenient and possibly a bad idea, wouldn't it be possible to just play it, record it then burn it on a CD yourself? It would probably be lower quality, of course, but it's easy and more or less free.

I frequently edit my new posts to fix grammatical errors or to reword stuff, so sorry if I make it look like I'm forging my messages to change the meaning of anyone's replies or something.

There's a fair number of USB cassette players out there specifically for this purpose. You hook it up to your computer, follow the instructions, and viola, your cassette is an MP3 (or your format of choice). I don't think they're that expensive, and they're very useful if you have more than a few cassettes.

Yep, there's that. It'd be cheaper.

There's also the quality, expensive way.

Your sound quality will be great, but your wallet is gonna feel it.

is 400 bucks really neccesary for doing that? i've had a decent USB record-player from which i've recorded a number of vinyls to my computer, and they sound pretty decent. of course, i'm not an expert at this, so i dunno if there's any better way to do it.

You don't even really need the USB device. Any decent tape player with a 1/8" stereo headphone jack can send the signal to a computer's line-in jack, and then you can use any one of 100 free software tools to record it as your preferred format.

I’d keep the cassettes there more durable and will last longer than a cd Because a case has all the plastic casing around the tape to protect it But a cd is just out and exposed to anything and every thing

not if you store the CDs properly. i have some albums dating back some 20 years ago that worked perfectly when i played them. and the majority of the CDs were used ones, even!

But a cassette still has its durability with or without its case and I’ve had

cd`s in their case pop off that little thingy that holds it in play and the thingy scratch it up

Or you could try to find media centre from era when cassettes was still in use but CDs already appeared, some of them could do that too, I have one like that :) Made CDs from all my favourite cassettes long time ago.
