Well, she is more or less the main character, more so than the rest of the Mane 6 in that she was introduced first.

 

I think this is awesome, gotta love dem spoilers, the plot does seem sort of lame without some extra info, though. How does an empire "suddenly appear" and why does it "need protection"? It doesn't really make much sense to me yet.

This episode truly sounds awesome. Even though it'll probably just be a big adventure two-episode opening that they've done twice now, I wish they would make a whole season of just big adventures occasionally involving hardships and combat.

And sure, but of course, we just have to wait until we get some further information before we make any judgements yet. I mean, how many of us were initially put off by the first information about Canterlot Wedding, thinking nothing special of it until WHAM! We got two of the best episodes of the series!

I don't think that the actual pictures for the "Crystal Heart" will appear before season premeire, just to keep us all on the edge of our seats, but I think this opens up the possibility of this item being corruptible somehow (think the leaked Trixie images with a menacing necklace around her neck).

The release date for the DVD is December the 4th, That means we are mostly likely to get it in Early October, Late September. I doubt it would premier in December. Can't wait! :D

Given the brevity of the season, I suspect we may be in for some sort of story arc.

I am increasingly worried about the Season Three 2 part episode. Here's what we know:

*This Empire appears out of nowhere.

*It has a serious problem.

*Somehow Cadance becomes very important to the Crystal Empire, as a sort of protector (Crystal Fair Song)

*Ponyville has near apocalyptic events happen (the leaked images of abandoned buildings are probably from the 2 part).

*Mane Team Six is dispatched on yet another mission by the government.

*Trixie comes back, and it is very possible that she will be an antagonist for at least part of the episode.

*Some magical artifact called the "Crystal Heart" is important to saving the Empire.

 

Most likely ways this could go wrong, IMO:

1) The Crystal Empire is not properly explained, leading to a terrible lack of context.

2) Trixie is reintroduced in an unbelievable way (ex. She was a bit sad over being upstaged in Ponyville so she joined the lead antagonist to lead a campaign of death and destruction).

3) The Crystal Heart is yet ANOTHER magical deus ex machina. The Elements were twice used as a DeM, as was the magical spell Cadance/Shining Armor use at the end of "Canterlot Wedding". It would be terribly repetitive to use some crazy magical artifact as a FOURTH. Can the ponies solve any problems without a deus ex machina?

 

Each of these 3 would reflect poorly on the show, so I hope that Hasbro handles its highly ambitious episode well.

It would be great of AJ comes out of the "background" as well. Both times when the mane six use the Elements of Harmony, she was in the background...I would like her to at least play somewhat of a role.

Woah, you have a good point there. I could see the song going either way; it could be used in a later episode with a plot point unrelated to the Crystal ponies, but it would be very neat if it was related to them. Maybe it will be one huge story arc spanning all 13 episodes of the season. Maybe the mane 6 will actually fail to save the Crystal ponies, and Ponyville will eventually end up in ruins as a result, but by the last episode, they'll make everything alright again. Granted, it would probably be difficult to have that arc span all the episodes without getting too repetitive or stale, so if they do go this route, let's hope they throw in a lot of things to keep it interesting

I kind of got those vibes from the description too, though I am really looking forward to the two episodes. Let's hope it's just a case of a slightly bad description and that we actually have something really good coming up Hopefully the episodes will give us more explanation.
