Why do people think that bass is only meant to thump? There is an actual art to it you know!

Anyway, what do you want in a song? Do you just look for something catchy to get your flank moving? Or do you take a more refined approach and listen to the deeper aspects of the song, listening for the parts to balance and be in harmony with each other?

Since I play in the School's Orchestra I know they do more than Thump, Though for most of the Orchestrial Pieces thay don't play as much as the Violins and Violas...

The main bass players I listen to, (Geddy Lee, Geezer) really do more then thumping. They do intricate solo's that really add to the music.

Since I'm a percussionist I LOVE the beat of a song.

Lyrics can start to make me dance too but it's the beat of the song that makes me want to keep listening.

The only kind of bass I do know is the kind that does only thump. (Hip Hop/Techno stuff)

 

And I mostly only enjoy songs that make me get my groove on. It has to be a catchy beat.
