Heh, yeah, there was a lot of that going on. I remember my reaction being "...Who are some of these people, even."

The number of current moderators is really shocking when I added up both global and section moderators to find only 9 remained. I can't imagine the disaster just waiting to happen with little moderators left.

I'm also sure that it would be difficult as well to pick new ponies to be moderators as well. Though I find everypony in my friends list to be very trustworthy.

 

Moderating work seems like it's very tense, seeing that there are so many members now.

See, the thing about that is that through the course of the thread, not one person, to my knowledge, contacted an administrator with any specific concerns regarding any of the people appointed. Most of the complaints in the thread itself were vague to the point that were difficult to really give serious consideration.

 

If people have specific concerns regarding a moderator they should really speak up - In many cases we'd be happy to hear about any misgivings people have, as long as they're communicated to us in such a way that it doesn't feel like we have an angry mob trying to slay us.

 

The boatloads fallout quite honestly stressed me out to the point that I seriously entertained the thought of just calling it quits right there and then, even if I do joke about it nowadays.

I think that's the side people don't think about. Actually being in that position of power and having to deal with the angry mob reaction to the decision that was made and the general stress of being one of the people that so many look to for instruction.

 

Personally, I never understood the freak out. If people were following the rules then having new mods only meant that they would be bored, save the occasional troll that came through. I knew in the first boat load that you guys would be quick to correct anything you deemed unfair by any moderator and that's the way it's always been. A confident and consistent leadership doesn't devolve into Hitler in one night. And at the end of the day, Feld0 is still in charge and we know he'd step in if things got too crazy. Have faith, people!

 

Side note: my spell check says Feldo is wrong but Feld0 is absolutely fine. This pleases me.

Perhaps you could develop some sort of Admin exam to make sure that anyone who is up for consideration can handle the responsibilities. It would at least give you something to go off of when making a decision. Unless, of course, you have already have this and everything I'm typing is a complete waste of time.

Where will you be getting these new mods? Surely you arent going to track down some random people and ask them, and I hope they will be previous members here on the forum. I nominate Shankvel- oh.... I nominate LR- Wait... I nominate... Finest?

The role of section moderators (and global moderators, for that matter) is going to evolve a bit to include certain tasks not directly related to moderation as we move forward on our plans to lighten the load on certain staff members by spreading their duties around a bit further. Section moderators will find themselves assigned certain tasks related to the sections that they help maintain.

We have not yet approached anyone regarding staff positions, though we've already got a list and were in the process of checking it twice before this thread was posted.

 

As for what determines who gets picked for staff positions... there's honestly a lot that goes into it. I've seen people complain in the past that we've selected members that they've 'never heard of' before, but... honestly, I don't see the issue with that. This is a large community, with a lot of active posters - you can't know everyone.

Wait a minute... People do not like it whenever tons of new mods are added? I'm actually jumping for joy on the inside to see who gets picked. It's actually starting to kill me on the inside a little bit. I actually want 519 new mods to be added to the list. I want to celebrate with them and congratulate with them and just... yep. It's exciting for me. I don't see how people could hate it. What would people be mad about? The "How did ___ become a mod?!?!" thing is pretty silly, and just seems like the user is mistrusting of the current mods' judgement, which, is just silly. Mods are mods for reasons, am I right? People shouldn't get mad over who gets picked.

To be fair, it is possible to make mistakes when appointing moderators - some concerns are entirely valid, and certain aspects of an individual may not be known to the existing staff.

 

In the event that an individual has a reasonable concern regarding a moderator for whatever reason, they should open a 'moderation dispute' ticket in the support area - these tickets are visible only to administrators. While we may ultimately opt to take a 'wait and see' approach to the concerns expressed, the ticket remains useful in the sense that it draws our attention to a potential issue.

 

Ultimately it is a simple matter to do a full audit on every moderator action that a specific staffer has undertaken.

Scootacool is a genetically modified Feld0 clone/semi-omnipotent alien being. He is a mod basically, but due to 1337 hax, is a technical admin, the same level as Feld0.

Scootacool's primary role is to tend to bug squashing and custom development - that kind of good stuff. However, he is roughly on Zoop's level of authority as an administrator and does take an active role in the management of the site as well.

 

Swoop was a longtime administrator, but was forced to step down recently following a series of very unfortunate events in his real life.

on point now i'm wondering how the selection process for mods works? because I think you should just send the elements of Feld0 out there to find suitable mods unless the elements of Feld0 don't exist in which case they should.

Wow! It's MLP's birthday? Already! This is so cool! Never knew we had reached that much posts in the short time this forum has been around. Congrats to all members, mods, and admin!

 

Anyways, I hope you guys do well in choosing your next mod. So far, all the mods we have are very friendly and put lots of effort into doing their job and making the forum a better place. If you guys can pick all the awesome mods we have now, then I'm sure the next mod will be just as good! Especially season 3 coming along...more members can sometimes mean more bots and stuff. Besides that, it'll be great to have new members!

 

Also, Arylett, I can't believe your leaving!!! D: You were always kind to everyone, and I loved seeing your posts. I hope you do well in everything you do. If possible, try to stick around when you have the chance. I'm sure everypony is going to miss you as well.

Ahhhh...thanks for the info, my great overlord Feld0 *bows*. I'm not confused anymore. I think I was confused due to the fact that, you, Scootacool, and Zoop all had the same badge of Alicorn. Which is why my mind went "Wait, is this a trigarchy of sorts?" And also, because I remember seeing the first time I came here, that the Alicorn badge was reserved only for you Feld0. Now, I don't remember this but, then again, don't trust my memory. It tends to suck real bad . I hope you can all manage with the current situation, and that you strive forward!..Before the massive income of Season 3 comes . Huh...I almost think somebody could make a roleplay out of that...
