The 'test' makes my opinion on it shaky, but only because you never said if it was a magic test or something completely irrelevant or neutral.

Hermione gets battle, if only because of Avada Kevadra's instakill effect and the fact it might take Twi too long to charge up either a heavy-duty shield or a mass antimagic field (Shining Armor's spell or a failsafe.). Hermione can probably get 2-3 instant kill or stun spells at absolute minimum in the time it takes for Twilight to fire most of her non throw-things spells, although if Hermione gets disarmed fast enough Twilight can probably just poke her with that sharp unicorn horn until the protection charms wear off.

Twilight is better at magic by virtue of being 100% magic except when incapacitated by other magic (Poison Joke and Discord, obviously), and having to use it for lifting anything that won't move by hoof or mouth. Hermione can have her spellcasting weakened if you take the wand out of the equation.

Hmm, interesting comparison. Alright, time to answer.

"Who would score higher on a test?"

Tricky question. Well, seeing as they're both the smartest [relatively young] characters of their respective series, they'd probably be on par with each other, but I voted Hermione. I mean, sure, Twilight lives in a library, but that library is, from what we've seen, a completely public library (other than her private quarters, of course), and doesn't have a restricted section where all the books containing really powerful magic has, so Hogwarts library seems more extensive, giving Hermione an advantage.

"Who is better at magic?"

Easy. Twilight. By a long shot. Hermione may have some real powerful spells at her disposal, but she has never achieved such amazing magical feats which Twilight has. Hermione can only channel her magic through her wand (unless you count wandless magic, which he has accomplished a few times, but it IS pretty difficult), while Twilight's special talent is magic. The only problem may be that Twilight's spells take quite some time to cast, unlike Hermione's.

"Who would win in a fight between the two?"

Hermione wins this one. Like what the others said, she has more combat experience. She defeated Death Eaters, some single-handedly, has some rapid-fire spells available to her, and fought through a war. But Twilight could win in a duel if she uses her telekinesis to levitate the wand away, but surely, a fair duel has a rule which prohibits that, right? Right?

As for lifting the wand away isn't half of the point of the duel to disarm your opponent? If you can't do that then Harry might be in trouble for spamming expelliarmus for 5 books. But yeah, Hermione takes it

Twilight would win in all areas, because she's always studying during her free time, and she has more of a potential for magic. Her special talent being magic certainly helps too. And if things aren't going her way, she can just teleport so she has time to think of a better strategy.

Honestly Emma just appeals to me more because she's human I gues haha

We aren't comparing actresses though. Got to give Twilight a chance, don't we?

Oh, you're right. I should have come up with a general criteria that would give neither the advantage. Now that sounds challenging.

Dang, that's a hard poll!!! Hmmm... I'd have to say that Hermione is probably the smarter of the two, if only because, as Forlong mentioned, of the Season 3 promo, but Twilight probably does indeed have a better natural talent for magic. As for who would win a fight between the two, that's actually the easiest one for me; Twilight hands down!!! Hermione would be so distracted by her ridiculous levels of cuteness that she wouldn't even be able to put up a fight before Twilight KOed her!!!!!! Twilight for the win!!!!!!!! B)

From what I've read (and seen in the movies and games), it seems the disarming spell is a point-and-shoot thing, and it could be dodged or deflected with a protection spell. On the other hoof, when a unicorn levitates something with her telekinesis, they don't necessarily have to look at an object to levitate it, they just need to know what they're focusing on and where it is. So, if Generic Wi/tch/zard A fires up a disarming spell to disarm opponent, Generic Wi/tch/zard B can easily dodge it. When Generic Unicorn A uses her telekinesis to disarm Generic Wi/tch/zard C, Wi/tch/zard C cannot escape Unicorn A's wrath.

I guess I can see that. However I don't see how using something your opponent can't stop would be illegal. It could just qualify as a powerful technique. Also The opponent might just be able to Finite it to cancel out the spell ( which is why wizards and witches don't just summon their opponent's wand). I don't think a duel can nerf things that aren't fatal or dangerous in a friendly setting and in a loose situation or an unorganized duel like 99% of Harry Potter fights I don't see why twilight couldn't just use telekinesis Edited by DashForever

Ah, I see your point. A powerful technique is just a way to win, no matter how you look at it. And seeing as wandless magic is possible (albeit difficult), a wizard can still win without his wand. Having a duel would be rather problematic, though, seeing as the Harry Potter universe has a different kind of magic from Equestrian magic (fanfiction shall be made).

When canon will not define, it leaves it up to the fanfic writing people to meme around until people have approximations.

Fanfic plot of the day: Go study magic.

Hermione was always great in theory, but she sucked in practical part (remember the feather!).

Twilight > Hermione in all the cases. ´Nuff said.

You know, I was wondering when a topic like this was gonna show up. There are quite a few similarities between FiM and Harry Potter (and I'm sure some of them were intentional, but I guarantee not all of them were). One of the most obvious (and sadly overlooked) is the fact that you've got Twilight Sparkle, a pony that has alot of magical potential, and Princess Celestia, the ruler who is the most powerful spellcaster and serves as a mentor to Twilight. And to make it more blatant, Twilight gets an owl for a pet, and Dumbled-I mean Celestia gets a Phoenix.

Now to the topic at hand. Twilight would win, hands down if the two were in a straight up duel. First of all, Hermione has to hold a wand, while Twilight's horn is literally attached to her. So the disarming spell wouldn't work (or at the very least it wouldn't have the same effect on her). Secondly, Twilight's a Unicorn, so Hermione wouldn't even see the battle coming. Seriously, those wizards love magical creatures and would never preemptively attack one. Finally, Twilight's really powerful. She's likely the most powerful Unicorn in Equestria, as far as sheer magic force is concerned. I think Celestia might still be a little more powerful, but it's closer now, and Twilight's never gone all-out against her, so we really don't know. The point is, a pony like that doesn't lose to a wizard who in the grand scheme of things, was maybe slightly above average.

No, I would actually say Twilight versus Harry Potter himself would be a closer match. But even then, I'd have to put my money on Twilight, for alot of the same reasons. Harry wasn't all that powerful in the grand scheme of things. He was never anywhere near Dumbledore's level of power. He was a relatively ordinary wizard who was put into an extraordinary situation. He simply won because he and his friends did everything right, not because he was more powerful than anyone else. Twilight on the other hand, is clearly more powerful than the other characters. Again, Celestia's a possible exception in this regard since the two have never gone all-out against one another.

As for studying habits, I would have to put them about even. Both of them are really big on studying and learning, but both have also clearly demonstrated that they're willing to put that aside to help their friends, even though they would both use the opportunity to learn a lesson.

This is like asking which is better, ice cream or yorgut. The question is almost impossible to answer. I finally came to results. Good question though. I think Twilight would score better on a test, cause she has been studying most of her life. Who is better at magic. Well, you cant really say. Ponies magic is sort of limited, humans is not. I mean, there are like a billion spells of magic for humans and few for ponies. That is the biggest issue I had when judging. Who would win a fight. Ok, this is almost impossible because both dont ever want to hurt anybody. I vote hermione because, she knows dark magic. Twilight is screwed there.
