As is the case with most video game movies, there is almost always something to make them bad.

For instance http://en.wikipedia....gend_of_Chun-Li

I Shouldn't need to tell you why this movie is horrible. The actors do not portray the characters even remotely close (this is what Chun Li looks like in the movie http://en.wikipedia....i/Kristen_Kreuk)

and beyond that the story was just boring. I know it's pretty hard to make a movie from a 2-d fighting game like Street Fighter, which has a limited story as it is, but if you're going to make a movie about an asian woman named "Chun Li" maybe you should actually make her...oh I don't know...Asian.

But this thread isn't about Street Fighter, so I won't throw my flaming butthurt in that direction.

The Resident Evil Movies, are in my opinion, somewhat decent stories on their own, but it's when they rip things straight from the games (Wesker's sunglasses throwing as an example) I get really jimmy rustled. I feel as though the movies use those ripped scenes as a way to say "Yes we have nothing to do with the game's story line, but here, have a scene you've already watched if you played the games"

As stupid and childish as it's sounds of me to complain about such minute things like that, it honestly makes me angry.

Now a bit of backstory as to why I don't like the movies.

I started with the movies actually, when I was about 5 my step dad played Resident Evil 2 a lot, and I would watch him, but I never played a single Resident Evil game all the way through until I was 13, but I had watched the movies, and became obsessed with the franchise. Upon playing the games (at this point the third movie had been out for months) I realized how much more I liked the games, the story line (while certainly not solid by it's own means) was so much more interesting than Mila Jonavich running around pretending to have psychic powers.

The movies try to give fans a wink every now and again by throwing in characters like Chris Redfield, Claire, Jill Valentine, and Wekser, but the actors that portray them don't do it for me, but then again, this is a video game we're talking about here, I can't expect real life actors to look, and sound just like the digitally made characters. It's the fact they don't even act like them is what bothers me.

Mila Jonavich's character Alice, is honestly one of my least favorite characters ever. Her 'powers' given to her by the T-virus are not even remotely conclusive to what the virus does in the games (Not even Wesker gets psychic powers from his advanced augmentation) and Mila Jonavich is just unattractive to me period, so there's that. Her character's progression in the story is kind of nice I will admit. It's the clone army part that really makes me set down my pop-corn and go "Oh...well that's cool...I guess?"

The physics of the third movie movie is what originally started making me question things.

"Ocean receded, Rivers dried up" How did that happen? Most people I've asked use the T-virus as an excuse, but Viruses don't attack non-living things like water, so the water had to go somewhere, Matter can not be created or destroyed, it has to go somewhere.

I'll admit I'm more than stubborn in my opinion of the franchise, but I'm almost certain someone on here will end up making me rethink that.

What are your opinions, why do you feel the way you do about it?

SIDE THREAD QUESTION:

On the note of RE games, The "Survival Horror" part seems to just ease it's way out gradually, and then stop at 5 and O.R.C. I understand the first games can be annoying to people who start with the later ones, but I started with the classic annoying ass camera angles, and stupid controls, so maybe my stubborn nostalgia keeps me from thinking those games are boring, but do you think the later games are more fun? I can say reluctantly that 5 is more fun than 2,3, or CVX

Actually, I haven't seen any RE movies, but most movies based on games aren't very good.

Anyway, I can't wait for the new Silent Hill movie to come out so I can laugh at it.

I, for the most part, just ignore the movies as it is. They don't really fulfill any real entertainment for me; if I wanted zombies to watch I've got The Walking Dead to enjoy there.

As for Resident Evil? The new game comes out and I am quite happy they finally put zombies, the original zombies, back into play. Though I'm getting this strange feeling they're gonna try and add movie stuff into the game somehow, might make some fans upset.

Please, for the love of god, tell me that you're joking. They're making ANOTHER Silent Hill movie?! Hell, lets just ask them for another Alone in the Dark while we're at it.

I can't say the first movie is based of the games. Just happen to have that name.

I can proudly say that Resident Evil 1, the movie is a masterpiece. I love it.

Best scene is the laser room. This might not be so suitable for everyone, but since this IS a Resident Evil thread, this has to be posted.

I never played Resident Evil, nor watched the movies, but I can tell you this.

The video game attracted me a bit more, mainly because the story is great. The studio just made the movie that way because they wanted more Milla Jovovich than story. And more money.

I would say the first movie could actually fit into the cannon game story, but the second started to drift, then the third jumped the shark, then stabbed it's children.

Story good? In a Resident Evil game?

Dude, do you even know what you are talking about?

The story is so unoriginal as it can get, and its pretty bad. There is really nothing to it.

No offense ^^

The Resident Evil game series has god-tier gaming experiences like REmake and RE4(too bad 6 doesn't seem very good though), so I definitely prefer them. The movies are... mildly entertaining, but I don't really like them as much, even if they might be a bit more mainstream.

Did you play through all the games? Because I don't know about anyone else, but the entire Progenorator virus background was a better story than most things I've ever played/watched. The deception within Umbrella, and the outward revival of it through "Tricell" I will say the first two games, and possibly the third are very hard to call stories, since the endings all change depending on how you complete the game, but at around Code Veronica, they seem to start focusing on story, and I like what they have so far. 6 actually looks good to me.

There are certainly points where the story begins to contradict it'self, but early games like RE1 and 2 were not really prepared for a story after it it seems.

I prefer the games, and I've only seen 2 RE movies. I think the first one, not really sure, it's been a while and I can't remember, and the most recent. The most recent one annoyed me because of the characters they chose and how they used them.

RE Retribution Movie spoilers:

for example, Jill being controlled by Umbrella when she was only under Wesker's control in RE5, and the fact that Leon and Barry are part of a team, which, correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't actually played all of the games, only 1, 2, 4, and 5, I don't think they even know each other... And the ending, Weskers like "WE HAZ TO SAVE HUMAN RACE", which he never does in the game. Also they killed Barry. Da fuck.... assholes.

Another reason I don't like the movies, it's like the writers watched someone play the game while reading a book, and half payed attention, leading to stupid endings like that

Wesker could give a shit less about the human race in RE5, in fact he wants to essentially destroy it and make way for the 'chosen' by ouroboros.

Unfaithfulness to source material is a problem shared by many games that are based on movies. I hate it too. Why even bother? If you're going to go through all the trouble of making a movie, and you're naming it after a highly respected video game franchise, why not follow that games' plot? After all, the more people like something and can relate to it, the more money you can make from it. The first movie contained numerous references to events in the game or allusions to gameplay elements, but all things considered they have nothing in common: the top of Blossomforth's mane is similar to Twilight's, therefore they must be sisters.

Doom had the same problem. Marines? Check. Mars? Check. UAC research facility? Check. Invasion from hell? Wait, no, let's take the cliché approach of having people mutated by a virus instead of how it really happened! Please tell me how the writers or anybody who worked on the movie thought that was going to get over well with the fans. I'd like to know the logic behind that. Let's take something people have loved for years, remold it until it hardly resembles said thing, and try selling it to them like nothing is different. Check out how much the movie grossed. It didn't even recuperate production costs while it was in theaters. This formula doesn't work.

The RE games completely lost their survival horror element at the 5th installment. By that point it was just an action game. Contrary to popular opinion, I didn't think 4 was so great. My biggest problem was with the default camera angle. Sorry, but I think it's stupid when 1/4 of my screen estate is occupied by the character's back, and elimination of peripheral vision has never helped anybody. That's the biggest reason I wasn't able to get into Dead Space. I couldn't see anything. Some people told me that getting you that close to his perspective was supposed to be "more immersive." You know what's more immersive and useful than being within arm's reach of the protagonist's shoulder? First-person. Going forward I think the Resident Evil games will need a new camera system. Something more like MGS4, where the camera is pulled back a bit farther from the player and only gets intimately close when aiming.

I'm excited for 6 because I think zombies are making a return. And for the record, those feral creatures you encounter in games like Left 4 Dead aren't zombies.

Say what? who would honestly believe that the films are any better than the game it's based of. Seriously, the only thing that those films have achieved is making the Transformers series look descent.
