How do you feel about sex and violence in video games?

should developers put more graphic detail fo those in newer video games and distributors pressured to sell them?

do you like the current level of sex and violence in video games or are you against any kind of sex and violence in video games?

Every video game is violent in some way. It's inescapable. That is, of course, unless you get your gaming fix from a LeapFrog. Personally, I don't give a crap about violence. It doesn't affect me in any way. However, I see sexual content as unnecessary. It adds nothing to the gameplay, and it's really quite boring.

well, me, i like my violent games brutal but I dont like how they're throwing sex into the faces of everyone, some people just cant take it. though what's weird, my mother would rather me watching half-naked game women slide down poles than me chopping people up. sex is unnecessary and it tries to give the game 'sex appeal' even though its not doing a good job. like i said, i get my fix from ultra violence, but thats just me

Any sex and violent video games can be great! Although, it has to be developed well and younger kids shouldn't be in possession of them. I don't like all those young kids who play rated M games when they're like 6 years old.... They should be playing Nintendo or at least a game with the appropriate age rated by ERSB. I played Nintendo, and would if I had some more spare time to myself.

I think I have more of a problem of political correctness more than the lack of violence but I would appreciate ultra violence in games that needs it to be complete.

 

You can't ever play as the bad guys in video games coz of censorship, the only country that makes video games where you can play as say a nazi or KKK would be south korea.

You're really not going to escape violence when it comes to videos games. That's what many of them are about. (Fighting, warfare, chopping people in half with spinning blade hats, etc.)

Spec Ops: The Line does show the moral ambiguity of what's going on in the Middle East, but you do play as the US still.

 

Also, "as the bad guy" is pretty vague. Pretty sure that's all you do in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Violence i'm ok with. sex meh i would like it to be more mature like he way dragonage origin handled it (like an actual relationship between the player and the character ) rather then the shamelessness seen in fighting games were the women are only there to break the 4th wall and put on a peep show.

but then again i don't see this changing because it gets sales and the mention of such things will increase the sale by the underage 13 - 17s.

Idk about that, there are lots of free porn games on flash sites and masively multiplayer online porn roleplaying game (they really do exist).Personally I wouldn't play a 100% porn game but I think that a normal game with 4-5 mins sex scenes out of 5-10 hours gameplay is all right.

 

I'm against kids playing M/AO rated video games because I do believe that they might actually try to do those things in real life like this kid.

There are, yes. I'm not suggesting all porn games be made illegal. However I do feel mainstream consoles should keep them off their systems.

The other subject would be ultraviolence like manhunt 2 which got an AO rating or the punisher which had to be censored to get an M rating.I would love to see some brutal executions in rpgs and even games depicting and killing child soldiers in nam or africa.

I really don't care about sex scenes in games. If people can't handle seeing nudity in the game just don't play it, sell it or something. But violence and sexual content should only be played by people who should be playing it. I say 15+ should be the average age for playing M rated games (I'm 13 and play some) but COD or Heavy Rain are not games that should be played by children.

There is no need to add sex to a game unless it it truely needed for the plot, for example Duke Nukem Forever required some sex images as that was the character portrayed, any video game containing nudity is an 18+ here in the UK, the same age rating stands for porn and movies with full nudity in. Violence is fine, i like violent games and can't wait for graphics to get better to make decapitating someone look even better.

 

I would just like to add that in one of the Go of War games, there is a sex mini game where you have to rick th bed to the pointof knocking a lamp over in order go replenish your health, I found it rather amusing when I stumbled across it.

If you're not old enough for the video game, it will not be sold to you simple as that.

 

Sex in video games, no video game will ever have truly graphic sex unless there's a mod for it. Sex is a wonderful thing, but I do agree you should at least be a teenager before your told the facts of life.

 

I think violent video games are OK. Heck, I even play violent video games myself like Team Fortress or whatever as long as people are not stupid enough to repeat and do what they see or do in videos games in the real world.

 

You see there's these people called idiots/psychopaths that will do things they see or hear cause they are freaking stupid. They don't care about the feelings they hurt or the lives they take in the progress.

 

Us Humans have been killing each other since like forever, I think we have become a little less violent than we were in the past though.

Well I am just gonna say that I could honestly care less about the sexual content in any game, in most cases (by most I mean all in my standpoint) it's really not what I am playing the game for

 

I play the game for the story sometimes but I mostly enjoy the weapons if any (aka violence)

What i hate most about, for example Call of Duty, an 18+ or rated M game, is the little whining 8 year old kids who play it, i myself am 14 so i shouldn't be playing it but at leas i know how i should react on other people. For example, when a sniper shoots me from across the map, i say: "Good shot" an 8 year old probably says: "Why did you f*cking do that, HAAAAAAAX".

Honestly, I do believe both can be used in meaningful ways in any form of art to convey some sort of message, and when that is the case I don't mind. But the trend is often violence for the sake of violence and sex for the sake of sex, for the sole purpose [it seems to me] for the average person to label the game mature in hopes it can jump on the maturity wagon and sell to all the people that have something to prove.

 

I am a bit sad and disappointed so many of these kinds of games are coming out, but even more sad that so many people actually want them.

Have you tried playing God of War? God of War 2 and 3? Those games are really really violent and bloody (especially the third) and you basically play as the bad guy as you are trying to kill the gods of the world. Hack 'n' slash games are what you need

Depends how the developers use it. If it builds the story on an emotional level i'm all for it but if it's just there for the sake of it i don't really see the sense in it.

I don't really see the problem in sex unless it's degrading women. In my opinion, it's much less of a problem than violence, yet, generally speaking, it's much more of a taboo. Everypony seems to be fairly OK with cartoon violence (such as in Tom and Jerry), but they get kinda upset when they see some sexual references...

 

However, I don't think violence in video games is fully avoidable. Not everypony enjoys a game where you plant flowers...

You learn about sex in health class.

You rarely learn about decapitations in history class.

 

Normally, I believe censorship is for the devil. But at the same time I wouldn't want my little girl seeing/playing games from either of those categories. I think that anypony smart enough to realize that a game is fantasy, (and M/AO games are NOT a portal for fillies to be obscene jerks) should be able to buy whatever they please. It's their money, let people do what they want.

 

I am more prone to accept sexual content because sex is a natural action, and most people will engage in it at some point in their lives. Much fewer people have killed, and a small percentile with the brutality shown in today's video games. Over the top kill scenes are interesting to watch (and are okay on the silver screen) but I dont think they have a place in a game.

Honestly, what would games be like without violence? Boring, that's what they would be.

 

In fact, what would anything be like without "mature" content? It may not be socially acceptable - obviously -, but we can't deny that it turned out to be something entertaining. It's somewhy fun to decapitate people in video games, to rip them apart, to lit them on fire and stuff like that. We can't deny it. It's inevitable.

Sex content is another thing though. I personally think a game could go well without it, but it does attract a few perverts, meaning more money to the developers.
