Eh... the only point of hats is to show who has played the game long enough to find and trade for the rarest hats. People with unusual hats are usually the best players.

Really? Because in most cases, I can kill unusual-bearers just as well as any other target.

It's annoying when people say that hats = skill. I relinquished all my tradeable hats at one point and left my hat/misc slots empty for the sole purpose of having an abundance of metal, in case I needed WEAPONS or something.

I re-obtained my hats of course, but my point still stands.

I get scared whenever I see someone with an unusual hat. In most cases, it means that the person has been playing far longer than others, and play time and higher skill are positively correlated.

Regarding hats, they're just for show and shouldn't be something to describe or give telltale signs of the skill level of a player.

But naturally, players with something like a gibus usually are new or just somepony "trolling" because of the gibus's reputation.

Players with hats tend to have played the game long enough to acquire them, and thus the time spent has most likely become more experienced.

Because of how valuable unusual hats are, we can mostly assume that the player has played the game for a very long time before he got it, which would also mean he has played the game so much he's probably better than your average TF2'er.

That's probably as close as "hats = skill" , but even I must decline in that statement, because it just isn't true. A new player could even buy a bunch of hats if he wanted to, and that's not gonna make him a professional.

Only if a player can afford having (read: BUYing) the ubercool hats, while the ones who can't are seen as uncool (and indirectly saying that the non-hatters are poorer than hatted players, in a way).

Don't give them any care, players who judge by looks are people who judge a book by its cover.

By the way!

The best players that I have personally seen have unusual hats and other items that require a lot of play time: Primeval Warrior, Hale's Own weapons, Earbuds, Max's Severed Head. I've only come across a few instances when people have rare items and are not very good at the game. So hats do not equal skill, but much greater play time, aka practice SHOULD equal skill. Hats are only a predictor of greater practice, which is correlated to skill.

Basically, yeah.

But other than that, it's nothing special.

All of this robotic boogaloo makes me wanna just go and play Mann vs. Machine. x]

So THAT shitty form of griefing = brilliant?

No sir, the most brilliant form of griefing is getting an engie to build a tele exit in the spawn room in viaduct and having a spy spawnkill everyone.

In other news, a little something I happened to be able to record from a game a few days back.

Any of you two remember the high-five taunt glitch?

The one to travel trough spawn-doors of the enemy team :D

Good ol´times that were!

You know what the really fun griefing was? Going Puff 'n Sting pyro when everybody was trying to kill Merasmus, and killing everybody on the other team when they were focusing on him. Even better was actually letting them kill him and get to the island right before they get their hat to kill them. That's how I got this gem of a screenshot.

Now that's what I call trolling! I like the... umm... "civilised" conversation you're having with the other members! ^_^ And they thought Marasmus was evil! Since the topic is drifting into the griefing and trolling section of TF2, I thought I'd share another video, annoying people with one of my favourite game songs! Nothing like doing a bit of trolling in TF2!

You kids today don't know a thing about griefing. Let me show you how we used to roll back in the good ol' days:

I laughed for a good whole minute on this one. I was in tears. The best griefing moment I have ever had.

Could someone please teach me how to properly rocket jump? I don't know why I can't do it correctly, but every time I try to look behind me, jump and shoot, I go flying in the wrong direction - usually sideways - or I just do a tiny little hop. It's infuriating.

Tried that before, It was funny for a while but it got boring and everyone eventually just started avoiding my teleporters.

You can add me on steam and I can assist you, I can even help you with more advanced jumping if you want.

The simple way to say it is jump, crouch, and shoot all at the same time. Like, press all those buttons at once. Anything else falls into slightly more advanced techniques.

If you're already doing that, I can't really help.

Seems we all sometimes just go cheeky, eh!

@Roop:

While frowned upon, it's not really like you're not allowed to keep up killing the opposite team.
Successful!

Teleporter trap..
It's a classic!

I've done my own share of..cheeky mischieval errands...

I don't normally grief, so I can't say I'm a wellspring of knowledge on the topic. That particular exploit there has since been patched. The truly funny part of it was that cost our team the round (you can see how low the timer is in the screen cap).

Around that same time (two or so years ago), we (a few likeminded gents and I) went to a 2fort server and started mic spamming the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme while eating sandwiches in front of the Snipers. It certainly was not quite as funny as getting half the team stuck under a bridge, but it was still good for a few laughs.

On a totally separate subject: does anyone happen to have a Strange Scattergun they'd be willing to trade/sell?

I must admit, I do enjoy a bit of mic spamming! :P I especially love playing songs from MLP: FiM, like the cupcakes song, on a non-brony server. The players usually go completely mental! Another favourite of mine to play is Fluttershy's brain song in shed.mov, but usually it just creeps people out! :P

I wouldn't recommend micspamming if it is for reasons to annoy people.

As "fun" as it is because 90% of the players display their lack of knowledge that you can manually mute a player from within the game menu, you're not that much better by pissing them off on purpose.

I played some TF2 again for the first time in about 4 months, it felt so good to be playing it again.  I practiced a little bit offline, then I dived right into Payload and played some on Gold Rush.  I immediately got back into the swing of things, and made it into the top 3 on my team at least 4 times in a row, and I played as Soldier most of the time.

Well that Dig Dug video gave me some inspiration.

1) I opened up HLDJ, cleared all my Duke recordings to another folder

2) Downloaded a 15-minute loop of the Dig Dug song

3) Changed my name to "Dig Dug"

4) Entered "Bind w "+forward; hldj_playaudio"" in the console

5) Went to a gamingGOD server

6) Got muted almost immediately
