Soduh_Man 1 November 12, 2012 Author Share November 12, 2012 (edited) Unfortunately, emotion is the basis on which every single person operates their life. Even those that choose not to react with emotions have a singular emotion frequency that makes up their energy field. The show itself is designed to stock positive emotions on top of each other and thus doubling postive emotional frquency. But because of all our positive emotional frequencies, based upon the law of attraction in the universe, we conglomerate together. But the real fact is that rarely has there been a show that has ever stacked emotional reactions like this before. As such, it really just feels great over all. I hope that answers some questions or pondering. That was a good way of explaining it I feel, but what did you mean by energy fields? Are you talking about auras and stuff like that? Edit: Nvm, forget it. It's unnecessary I believe. But just one quick question, did any of you stop to think if I was a brony? CloudFyre 848 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 (edited) Woah woah woah...are we sure that it was a DDoS attack? That could be seriously problematic if it happens again. I don't know what a ddos attack is, is that why the site was extremely laggy when I was trying to make my profile on here? I thought about asking but when I came back on it was over. A DDoS attack stands for "Dedicated Denial of Service Attack". You take a computer with a relatively fast internet connection, and you set it to request information from a server at a crazy fast rate (as in 100, 100, or even 1000+ requests per second). The sheer number of incoming queries puts a huge strain on the server being attacked, since it sees each request as a unique user that needs all available information (the HTML code, CSS code, images, etc.). If there are too many requests and not enough processing power to give unique information to each ping requesting information, the server begins to lag out, possibly crashing in the process. To all of the regular forum members: I talked with Feld0 earlier this morning when the issues first started, and he thought it was a problem with the RAID array (the server hard drives) suddenly trying to back itself up. I have yet to hear if that was the actual issue. Soduh_Man, I have to admit: I had exactly the same questions you had when I first heard about this. Exactly. I had no idea why anyone would possibly waste their time on a TV show that was indisputably aimed at six year old girls. But after a few months of seeing pony memes here and there, curiosity finally took hold. I won't expand on the obvious, since, well, I'm here right now, so I must have liked it. If I could simplify my reasoning down to four points, it would be these: First off, the characters. There are multiple online research articles about why people connect with the characters and why they are so well thought out, but it basically boils down to this: every character animation is the same. They all share the same framework, the same running animations, etc., with small, variable differences here and there to match their personality. Since they were all the "same", the writers had to really expand upon the character's individual likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, personality traits, and so on. Alongside the writers, the voice actors did a stellar job in making the lines sort of "pop" as well - the results were incredible. Perhaps the big thing is that the characters are NOT perfect. They aren't all little angels that never do anything wrong, but they are able to compliment each other, which is where quite a bit of the storyline comes from. Second: the MLP staff. They do the one thing that nobody else does: they listen to the fans. They watch the fandom for trends, and they throw in little animations or voice clips here and there as a sort of "head nod" towards us. They don't act "high and mighty" as it were, but they're down to earth people who like chatting with others about their job and the show. In fact, most of them are willing to go out of their way to accommodate people/questions if you ask properly. It makes for a very unique relationship between the fans and the people who make the show. Third: the culture references. This is what makes this show so attractive to adults. There are references to Star Wars, Star Trek, I Love Lucy, The Big Lebowski, and quite a few other shows/movies scattered throughout the episodes, all of which are things that 6 year old kids would never catch. They just wouldn't. In a show that is "toned down" for the younger audiences, it's funny to see references to shows that are definitely not in the target audience range. Not only are they there, but the timing and placement of said references are near perfect as well. Lastly: the fandom. There are no words to describe that moment when I first discovered the fandom. Perhaps that seems like an overstatement, but I assure you that it's no exaggeration. Hasbro has been incredibly lenient with their copyright on MLP, and that freedom has sparked what can only be described as some of the most amazing artwork to be invented. For exapmle, there are some CRAZY good drawings/paintings that I think most people would find beautiful, even if you're not a fan of the show. In the end, it's the connections between the fans and the wilingness of people to go out of their way to assist other fans that make this fandom different than any other that I've seen. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I could say more, but I'll answer all of your questions directly. Why I watch the show? Because it's truly entertaining, without the all-too-common blood, gore, and other such content that currently exists on most TV shows. Out of all the kids shows out there, this one actually teaches reedeeming values. That may sound cheesy, but compared to the average selection of shows that I could watch at this hour...I'd rather watch this. Why I enjoy it? That was my entire post above. The fans, the characters, the whole two bits. Why is there this whole big community? That's pretty close to the "why I watch the show" question - we all enjoy the show, the fan works, etc. Isn't it just a show for little girls about differently colored ponies? Technically, yes. But under the hood: it's way more than that. What point is there to it, that there's whole websites filled to the brim with stories and art work and all of the like? Perhaps it's less about the artwork, than it is making connections with other people of the same mindset. Once those connections are made, then the sky is the limit. You can get hundreds of people to collaborate on artwork, video games, etc. You name it, the community resourcing can achieve it. What I'm asking is, what's the point to watching this show, why do you take time out of your lives to do this? I take time out of my life because I truly enjoy it. It's that simple. I like watching the show. I like talking with the staff members. It's something I do out of my own volition, because it's just awesome. What makes it so important for all of you to watch it? This jumps back to the fanbase and community idea. While my main motivation for watching the show is just for my own enjoyment, I also watch it to support the show creators, and to keep this show and all of it's unique attributes alive. The network that MLP has created is something entirely different than what most people would expect, and like I said, it's sparked some amazing creativity. I could continue typing, but this is already longer than I wanted it to be. If you're truly interested, and you find yourself with some spare time, I'd go watch the first couple episodes. If nothing else, just check it out to see what it's like. But you can't watch them with a mindset bent on critiquing it. Then there's no point. You have to be truly interested in it. Edit: Nvm, forget it. It's unnecessary I believe. But just one quick question, did any of stop to think if I was a brony? Twilight Circuits, it does make more sense, thanks for the explanation. Side Note: Where is your avatar from? Hahaha, I think that's a previous generation of My Little Pony. The joke (and the reality) is that the previous generations weren't quite as..."stellar" as the current one, so I find it a little amusing that they're using that as an avatar... Master Blade the Bearded 112 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 I watch the show for the entertainment, and because I have fallen in love with the characters (not in a creepy way). I enjoy the character development, as well as the life lessons the show reveals at the end of each episode. If everyone would take those to heart, this world would be more like Equestria (MandoPony reference), and that would be a place I would love to live in. And, because other people find the show entertaining, they write fanfics about it, creating more entertainment for everyone.
Zygen 6,066 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 I like the show because the animation is smooth, the charactors are interesting and relatable. The show doesn't take itself super serious, but has the series moments in it. It has epicness, humor, sadness, and much more. not to mention ponys are so adorable Especially fluttershy... Plus it reminds me of good TV shows I use to watch. not to mention the songs are actually good and not annoying like most shows songs are. Also the voice acting is quite amazing. Theres alot I like about this show, and the fanbase for it is also amazing. Its the only show I watch so it is my favorite show, unless you count the random times I watch some shows. Theres so much I love about this show. And I also hate gender sterotypes, so i don't really care if its a show"For little girls". Did I mention Pony's are adorable ? AnonBrony 1,469 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 Why? WHY? 'why' is the universal question now is't it? If i were to answer truthfully and comeplete as to why with all of your questions, then the staff of these forums would have to put a MAXIMUM characater limit cause after seeing my super large wall of text, they would want that to never see that again. Basically i could write on forever as to why we love this, why there is this community and everything. But i will make it short. Why do i love this show? To say truth, i just do. Its just... likable. Its apealing. The anaimation is just fenomenal. The characters are great, you can always relate to one of them. And above all the writing is great too. With this whole world Faust and the writers create, with all the mythology and legends, the races, the places, and also the storys these six amazing characters have in it, its just all amazing. I always loved mythology and just world building and storys. I can't really describe how awesome it is. I just love the show. its good. I could go on forever like i said/ Why is there a big comunity? Cuz there are a lot of people who also love this show. And since its so different to like a show like this, i guess this community just spawned. If it was some 'normal' show there would be fans but no fandom. Whats the point to it? Well, there is none. We just like the show. And like the cummunity and evrything in it. Why we spend all day on the computer looking up pony stuff is like asking why you all love music, and why we wath TV, or why we do a lot of things. Cuz why wnat too and cuz we enjoy it. The point to watching it is to enjoy it. To enjoy the fandom, have fun, and experience something awesome. Why is its important? because its something we love. Anything we love is important to us. There i cut it down. I could of wrote more but its late, i didn't feel like it, and my ice cream is melting. But iwas serious about all of that. And thats my opinion in a smallish nutshell. CloudFyre 848 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 CloudFyre, I hope you don't mind if I steal your explanation as to why people love the show. It just sums up everything I feel, but don't know how to say. Go right ahead! Over the year/year and a half that I've been a Brony, I've seen that most people aren't satisfied with the whole "love and tolerate" train of thought. Most people (myself included) would rather see a practical list of reasons - some that aren't as vague as the usual stuff that most people try to explain. Anyhow, like I said before, feel free to use it/modify it as you wish!
Bucky McGillyCuddy 956 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 The reason I watch this show is because of Rarity. I only really like Rarity. She is amazing. Twilight Circuits 604 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 (edited) Well, my avatar came from some random avie generator i found on the net. I can't even remember where it is. As for the "Did you even consider that i might be a brony?" question... From everything that i have been able to take into consideration which includes, what you said and how it was percieved coupled with my knowledge of what i feel makes a brony a brony, my conclusion was that you are not a brony. I did take into the consideration that a deep rooted guilt for liking the show may have brought you here to seek answers but from my observation of new comer behavior that are fans of the show suggested this may not be the case. However, I must say that your concern about unemotional atachement is quite interesting. That would suggest one could like the show and be in a negative polarity. However from observation consistant watching of the show slowly reverses someone's polarity. However, if you were able to watch the show with zero emotion, I would congradulate you on that feat. edit: The avatar of death when you first came in also really through me off. That usually is not newcomer behavior from what I have been able to observe. I do make all apologies if that was not the case. Samurshy 708 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 My reason for watching goes back a couple years to the summer of 2010. I had just been in a car crash that almost cut three lives short. I was blaming myself for some weird reason (probably the medication they had me on), and I was very depressed. I eventually recovered from my depression, after a few things started looking up in my world. After I recovered from my depression and my broken femur, I took a look back at my experience and realized that life should never be taken for granted. From then on I started seeing beauty in things that I had never seen before. I would sometimes spend endless hours staring at a tree, thinking about how intricate and beautiful a simple oak was. I started spending a lot of time in my head thinking about this world, and the beauty that comes from it. But not just the good things, I started thinking about the bad things this life has in it. I started wondering if this world really was beautiful, or if it was dark and malicious. Emotionally distraught from the conflicting war inside my heart, I started finding things that would take my mind away from it all. I began to spend all of my time on the internet, and about seventy percent of it was spent on youtube. From there I stumbled across a DJ. Alex S. video, My Little Pony glitch remix. The video should all of the greatest moments from season one, and enticed me to watch the episodes for myself. I watched all of season one in a day, and soon I found myself thinking about ponies more often than the rape rate in Chicago. I realized that this innocent piece of art was untainted and pure, and that gave me hope. Long story short: I watch the show because it is pure and innocent, I see beauty in it, and it renews my faith in this world. It also provides a sort of mental retreat, like a vacation for my brain. If only for the twenty four minutes and thirty three seconds that each episode lasts, a vacation nontheless. [CLICK THE SIG FOR OC] (Signature created by Azura) Shinobu is best girl. Bucky McGillyCuddy 956 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 (edited) A part of me dies every time some questions why? to anything. Probably the best answers to the question "Why?" is simply "Because" There doesn't have to be layer upon layer of deep and meaningful thoughts or science as to why one likes anything. If you really wanted to you could write an entire encyclopedia on "The psychology and science of why people love My Little Pony" But the truth is no one (except the handful of people asking) really cares, and no one has to. It's like questioning why does the universe expand exponentially faster every pasting second instead of slowing down like everything else. No one knows and even if they did it would keep happening regardless. Imo the time people put into trying to answer "Why?" should be put into something a little more constrictive. Also i'm not speaking about anyone specifically, just generally anyone. Sunny Fox 5,953 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 (edited) Long answer: The characters are my reason for watching. Let's be honest, the plots are not all that ground-breaking, they can be a little predictable, and they tend to be too light and bubbly (most of the time.) But here we have six Manes (plus 3 CMC, plus 2 awesome princesses, plus 3 awesome and one vanilla villain, plus 100 or so tertiary characters) who are all amazing complex and interestingly flawed individuals. And just like any journey we've undertaken before, taking this journey with these companions gives us a new perspective on old tales, and makes us laugh together with them as we do with treasured friends. Short answer: Rarity. If she were not in the show, I probably wouldn't watch it. She diamonds (which is like saying "she rocks", only better.) Xievie 498 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 Better to be in this community than watching Adventure Time or Harry Potter. I have nothing better to do, and it gives mea break from videogames. MLP is creative, and I have a soft spot for cute things. Explains why I like Fluttershy, Sweetie Belle, and Applejack so much. Honestly, the show gives me a happy feeling. I just want to live in Equestria. It's peaceful, there's Harmony, and everyone is friendly. The exact opposite of my world. When there is disharmony and chaos, I'd have been attached enough to have reason to help out. If you could leave a world you are embarrassed in, have scarce friends, and always being hurt by your many enemies, wouldn't you like to go to a more peaceful place? I hate most of the characters.Rarity is why I watch the show. And I tend to spread my love for her around a little excessively, so that's probably why *laughs* I agree Rarity is amazing. (Just look at my signature). However I like all the other Mane characters as well. I mean Rarity by a mile, but the other ones are good too. Anyway, I thought I would just share my Rarity foundness with you. /offtopic Meh, I just never really warmed up to many of the others. My perfect Mane Six would be: Rarity Granny Smith Trixie Stephen Magnet Flim/Flam (THEY'RE A UNIT XD) Photo Finish DAT DREAM TEAM Short answer: Rarity.
