Question about Cutie Marks

How old is the average pony upon earning their cutie mark? I know that they're supposed to be school-age, but would that be by the time of Middle School, or High School? I need to know for my OC's background.

Well, if we're going by the theory that cutie marks represent pony puberty, anywhere from the third grade to early high school, though I think the average would be 5th-6th grade.

if we were to follow by that theory then the question of "what grade are teh cmc in?" because it looks like primary school (thatd be american for whater 1st-7th greade is) but they could be kids. im pretty sure that you get a cutie mark when you discover the talent you are best at, and want to stick with untill the day you die.

I decided how to go about this. My OC's talent is music, but his parents were huge sports freaks, and his brothers were athletes, so his parents figured his talent must be some athletic event or other too. He probably wouldn't have discovered his musical talent if he hadn't skipped practice in High School one day to try other things. Sound realistic?

Well, it obviously varies a lot: Twilight got hers at about 4-6 while the CMC are about 8-10 (though it is noted they're taking longer than usual).
