Your thoughts about the failure success song?

I haven't seen a topic on this anywhere, and I know i'm kinda a week or so late, but I wanted to see what everyone thought about the failure success song.

I personally loved it, even though my favorite pony is still fluttershy, I still have to say I've always loved twilights singing, and this was no exception. It was also one of those songs where its more dramatic, kinda like this day Aria.

So what did you think? was it ok? Did you hate it? I wanna know !

I dunno I didn't like it the first time I heard it, but now I'm starting to see how good it is. I like the overall tone, and the lyrics are good. It's no This Day Aria or Smile Smile Smile, but it's up there.

Yeah, when I first heard the song I didn't particularly like it all that much. After hearing it a few more times though I really started to like it.

However hasbro's gonna have to step up their game to beat This Day Aria or smile smile smile .

Still I liked it.

While I agree that spike isn't the best singer ever, I don't particularly think he ruined the song for me. I actually kinda liked his harmony, but I'm sure not everyone did.

However I don't really think i'd want to have a whole song just sung by spike anytime soon, unless he ends up with a different person singing his vocals or something.

I must agree, his singing didn't go particularly well with Twilight's voice, as it was too quiet. Although I wouldn't say he ruined the song.

I was honestly kinda disappointed in the song. I expected a bit more from it after they ended the last season with This Day Aria. I think someone already said that though. It just seemed... lacking as compared to previous songs.

 

I honestly think it was about time Spike got to have a singing part. But they could have used him better. I don't think his singing voice was necessarily bad, it just didn't fit the way they tried to use it. And I agree, it might just be they tried to translate his quiet voice into singing. Good grief, let him sing out a little bit, and it might sound better.

 

The reprise at the end was acceptable.

Great song, the lyrics were just excellent and the animation was some of the best on the show so far. The reprise was even better though, really reflected the support and friendship among the mane 6.

Well, yeah, its true they've been setting themselves up with pretty high standards all along, at least as far back as Winter Wrap Up. And I agree, it's almost like Spike was added as an afterthought. I don't like how they used him.

Oh, yeah, I'm not saying Spike should overpower Twilight's voice. I agree with Zygen, it just could have been better.

The song and animations were good, don't get me wrong. Personally, it just didn't feel like it had as much meaning, as much pure emotion behind it as This Day Aria. And it was really only the Reprise that supported the friendship. I liked the reprise. Just, in general, Spike was not used to great effect in the original.

Passing or failing a test to me is not, as Bane would say, severe, as someone marrying an imposter. Therefore, the emotion is inherently lacking as well as the lyrics.

 

On this subject, I would like to say that I hope for more Pinkie songs/jingles. Though they are mostly short, they are very memorable and frankly amazing.

Omg yes! i love that part so much, Probably my favorite impact point on the song, maybe tied with the ending. I really like the chord at the end of the song for somereason.

Yeah I agree that it wasn't really as catchy as something like winter wrap up(Is anything ever though..?) And the emotional investment in comparison to things like this Day as Aria wasn't as great in comparison.

It was still a pretty nice song in my opinion, It is quite hard i'm sure for there to be a continuous stream of amazing songs coming from the show, I'm not saying its impossible, but lets say its going to be very hard for them to consistently put out songs like winter wrap up, This day Aria, ect.

 

I do hope that they surprise me and put an amazing song out somewhere along the line. I'd hope for a really catchy really amazing song atleast 1 this season.

No, I don't.

 

It's my least favorite song. The tune just didn't fit right with the singing for me. It sounded like a song that was put together within a day.

 

Pinkie was also awfully off-key at the end. Applejack's part was cut off abruptly. The only good part was Fluttershy's, in my opinion.

 

It just sounds overly forced. When I rewatched the episodes, I skipped over the Failure Success Song.

Yeah, I don't really find any songs from MLP to be bad. There all good in my opinion, just not to the same extent as others(Minus the song from the heartswarming eve thing, Don't remember what its called fire of friendship. only one I don't like .)

I love twilights singing voice, so maybe I was kinda biased. raritys is quite a good singer to. Not to mention all of them singing together in the reprise was cool.

 

Like I have said overall though, I don't find it to be an awe inspiring song or anything, but I still think its good.

I mean we got an epic story, the fate of, what we must assume to be, an entire species on the line... and we get a song about Twilight worrying that she might not get good marks ???

Add the ending, when everyone is fretting about, when they have just saved an empire from a 200 foot smoke-monster. Seriously, did anyone believe Celestia would kick Twilight out for not personally delivering the heart?

If this had been an episode about Twilight actually taking an exam, it would have been fine, as it is, is just feels tagged on for the sake of having a song.

Not to mention the time spend on it could have been used to SHOW MORE GAK flesh out Sombra a bit.

I really liked it actually; duets are pretty rare in the show, so that made the first time it was sung notable (although not gonna lie, Spike is not that good of a singer; sorry dude. ), but I actually enjoyed the reprisal more, which I thought was a delightful and wonderfully put together ensemble of the Mane 6, and probably the first real ensemble of all of them that we've seen since "At the Gala" (I'm not counting "BBBFF" since that's really a Twilight solo, with the rest of the Mane 6 only singing one line at one point). I think this speaks A LOT to Daniel Ingram's talent as a song writer at this point, since reprisals are often annoying and come across as unnecessary.

I liked it. It had a good tune, upbeat BGM and solid lyrics. It's not the best song in the world, but it was still pretty good. I wish MLP had more musical numbers like it did back in Season 1...

Yeah its obviously not the best song ever, but I think it was pretty solid.

I am hoping for some musical numbers like S1 to . But really as long as the songs don't get any major decline in quality or anything, I like all of the types of songs from the show pretty much. Of course I still want to see the show and not have it become a whole musical or something. But the songs from MLP are normally pretty good.(and sometimes amazing)

I agree that the emotional investment and relevance seemed... lacking. But while I didn't care for Spike's lines, I very much liked the reprisal. Last time I watched the first part, it still didn't seem necessary, but it does have a nice tune to it. And like I said, I love the reprisal.

I absolutely loved the Reprisal. Easily one of my favorites now, I think that song didn't have a certain energy that we are so used to in the series songs. It was kind of lackluster ( Because it's in a Crystal episode), but I definitely enjoyed it in the end.

 

I've always loved the Broadway style of all the ponies singing, and the Reprisal really reminded me of that style of Winter Wrap up and The Gala.
