First off, Catholic brohoof!

Secondly you don't think anyone alive or dead is worth following or admiring? I mean, Einstein, Martin Luther King, Walt Disney, Bruce Lee, Joan of Arc, Michio Kaku, none of these guys are good, kind, wise, or benevolent in your eyes?

The people you've mentioned are great people, but they are fallible and "on the same level" as you and I.  By this I mean that they have not achieved a higher level of wisdom/enlightenment that is significant enough to consider them worthy of such praise.

Ohhhhhh I see. You are looking for a modern Messiah! Well I can assure you that they exist, but they aren't really famous. I mean, Jesus was a pretty obscure figure outside of a few select circles even when He came back. It took Emperor Constantine declaring Christianity the state religion of Rome and thus the founding spiritual outlook of the Western world for His message to "get out there."

Most people that truly achieve a Jesuit or Buddha like state of higher wisdom don't boast about it. They just live quietly doing their good work.

They are there though, my friend.

Agnostic.

I believe it is 100% impossible to actually know if there is or isn't a God.

Honestly, the whole "is there a God" debate is the most meaningless and oldest debate on the planet.

You want my answer?

You cannot know.

Richard Dawkins doesn't know.

Billy Graham doesn't know.

Steven Hawking doesn't know.

Christians don't know.

Atheists don't know.

Muslims don't know.

Not one knows if there is or is not a God.

They can THINK they have the answer, but when it TRUELY comes down to it we just have to guess.

I agree with what you are saying but I sense a great deal of anger behind your words. I could be horribly mistaken though and it wouldn't be the first time.

Well yeah.

And for a good reason.

I'm just really tired of people saying, "THIS IS PROOF THAT GOD (does or does not) EXIST."

Either side gets under my skin.

I'm actually an agnostic-atheist, agnostic because I'm not sure if there is a god or not, but I'm leaning to there not being a God, because it seems more logical to me, and because I have an awful life.

Again yeah, I believe some people have reached a state where they are pretty damn certain. By definition though, the Divine is something we, as limited minds, simply don't have the capacity to comprehend, it's like a pig trying to understand quantum physics.

I'm actually an agnostic-atheist, agnostic because I'm not sure if there is a god or not, but I'm leaning to there not being a God, because it seems more logical to me, and because I have an awful life.

Don't you think that's kind of unfairly projecting? I mean you can say "it's logical" but then you say you're basing your final stance of viewing the totality of existence . . . on personal experience. Doesn't sound very objective.

I have faith that there is indeed a God, however one wishes to view the Powers that Be, but I base my findings on personal experience backed by religious research and consultation.

I'm a total atheist "No Jesus. Ever." kinda guy, but I love buddhism because its version of heaven is in the mind, and all its divinities are reachable by humans here and now.

Overall, I'm an anti-Christian atheist with a certain fascination with Buddhism

Religion plays little to no part in my life. I don't dislike it, and I'm not against it (I completely respect anyone's right to worship who or whatever they want, as long as their beliefs don't lead them to harm others, and I believe religion can actually be a positive influence when it's used the in the right way), I'm just purely ambivalent. So... agnostic, maybe? I'm not an atheist, because I don't believe there is no god. Nor am I a theist. I kind of just don't have any belief period. I tend to not concern myself with those questions at all.

Some people are general atheists. I have to be anti-Christian as a point because I live in rural central Georgia, and atheists have high a risk of getting shot and preached at here. Therefore, I fight them on the Internet.

Athiest. Why? Simple, I hate religion and the rifts and awfulness it causes. It results in hate, fear and prejudice. I will never support it and I'm thankful I got out of the epic brainwashing I got in Catholic school.

Ugh.

I hate when some fellow atheists do this.

They put a big fat fucking lable on religion and call it "evil".

This is bias!

There are plenty of non-violent religions out there.

Are you specifically speeking of Christianity?

Well that's also bias!

There are plenty of Christians out in the world that support homosexual marriage.

So why do you hate ALL religions out in the world.

That's a VERY broad statement.

Debating Christians, doing cyberboards for FFRF, stuff like that. I can't do it publicly because of HB60 (look it up), which prevents police from checking if someone has a gun license and a gun. By the time they know, it'll be too late.

Well, I'm not convinced God exists and I'm a firm believer that if he does exist, there shouldnt be any religion anyway seeing as god has never came down and demanded sacrifice or worship or recognition of any sort. Hail Lord Groot.

Ah yes the FFRF.

I appreciate what they do and why they're there, but they've gotten definitely gotten under my skin at times.

I don't want to go into detail about it though.

Go ahead. I find it exceptionally hard to become offended by any one person. I mean, as far as I've seen, they're not really an atheist organization, but rather a organization mostly made up of atheists who are working to keep separation of church and state guaranteed by the first amendment.

Well, they have gotten under my skin before when they tried to take down that one Nativity Scene on the grounds of an Air Force base.

That was back when I was a Christian though.

I look back on it now though and realize they were had every right in taking it down to conserve their "separation of church and state".

Isn't being anti-anything kind of negative? I mean if you want to convert, fine, but expressing hatred toward another religion is just being dogmatic against rather than for. Even Martin Luther didn't hate the Catholic Church as much as what it had become. (And this Gnostic Catholic agrees!) Not to mention that hatred and aversion are essentially denying the pain you feel about Christianity, which is against the very core tenant of Buddhism, the acceptance of life's pain.

Second of all Buddhism does have Heaven, many of them! It's just that they are steps, or at worse distractions from attaining Enlightenment.

Third of all, Buddhism acknowledges many divinities that are completely external from humans. Various gods, demons, and spirits are included as part of their prayers and oaths.

Fourth, their exist Buddhist techniques for binding or exorcising spirits, not unlike the similar Christian practice.

Fifth, while the two are very different in their ontological end points. They are similar in the short term expectations of their clergy. Chastity, wisdom, helping of the poor, and observance of sacred ritual.

Sixth, ever notice how similar both Siddhartha and Jesus' ultimate triumph is? Both were subjected to torments, both achieved their ultimate state of being (Enlightenment/Redemption through death), and both returned to spread their final teachings before ascending.

So don't throw one religion under the bus just because it's what you're used to.

I have studied this, and I haven't seen any deities pertaining buddhism. Perhaps you're thinking of Hinduism?

Umm, except that the origin of Prince Siddharta, who was a recorded prince of a recorded kingdom, was completely natural. I think he was real, but that some of the stories are just exaggerated or not true.

Maybe you should blame the people who abuse the religion, instead of the religion itself.  A bunch of concepts themselves cannot cause "awfulness," especially when they endorse spiritual purity and love.

I've seen Catholic schools.  Some of them are strict, some of them are not.  The "brainwashing" you refer to is probably just a result of enthusiastic adults trying to teach you catholic dogma.  They're not trying to kill you or ruin your life, especially not on purpose.  They're trying to teach you a way of life, which you needlessly criticize because it does not support your idea of "a good life filled with pleasure and me me me."  They do what they do so that you can be spiritually pure and have a connection with God.  I highly doubt they hated you.  If Catholics are taught that "hate and prejudice" is wrong (and specifically serves as a way to commit to evil), how can you criticize the religion as a whole?  Do you care that much that we believe that homosexuality and abortion are moral ills?

As a Catholic, I do not believe that Gays should be married within the church.  This does not mean that I will advocate against gay marriage in a legal environment.  Why would I care about someone else's piece of paper?  That just seems unamerican.
