Merged the two ME threads we had on the first two pages of the thread index.

 

As a side note, the ending was terrible and has retroactively soured my opinion of the entire game. The game leading up to the end is okay, but at times feels a bit like a chore to trudge through if you're attempting to ensure that you are best prepared for the fight against the reapers.

 

Multiplayer was kind of fun, but I was honestly tired of it by the time I had finished the demo.

I was a huge fan of the first game, the second one was amazing, but I have no hope for the third. My bets are that when it comes out, it'll be so EA'd that it'll hardly be a Mass Effect game.

 

It looks like that's what happened.

 

Ending is horrible and the scene is heavily "inspired" from the first google images result of "winter space".

Yea the ending was bad but bioware is better at writing characters than writing stories.

Haha, I'd nearly forgotten I posted in this thread. As I learned more and more about Mass Effect 3, I got happier and happier that I refused to cave in to the hype.

 

I highly doubt I'll ever buy the game. I'd consider getting it when it goes on sale (and that would have to be a pretty dang good sale) but I dislike the Xbox 360 and PS3, and to get it on PC, I'd need that Origin junk.

I just wonder if there's gonna be a Mass Effect 4...

Not a lot of people know about this. It sort of hints that we might get a real ending, so I hope it's true but I still think it's kind of stupid that bioware couldn't give us the real ending right away if this is true.

Welp, I finally finished the game.

 

My thoughts:

 

 

The ending was disappointing, in that it belittled (if not outright trifled) the entirety of the epic buildup to that point. You go through 100+ hours of gameplay (adding up all 3 titles) to get that perfect score, defeat the bad guys (sorta) and save the planet and the galaxy... then you have to either kill them all - including EDI, the geth (whom I'd just started to really like!) along with every other synthetic lifeform... or forcibly control them (sacrificing Shepherd along the way) or create some kind of symbiotic Utopia galaxy (Shep also dies to achieve this goal).

The buildup allows you to get to that point while saving Earth and giving you all the options mentioned. Shep doesn't even make it if you chose the "kill em all" option if your readiness score isn't high enough. To attain this level of readiness, some multiplayer time is needed. Nothing extraordinary, just a few wins will do to get you to 75% ish.

 

I liked the "Green" ending best, even if Shep is sacrificed... I'd always thought that might be the way the series would end, considering all the guy's been through.

 

What is definitely missing throughout all endings is the long-hand Fallout-style epilogue for each of the factions you have influenced.

Something along the lines of "And so, the Mass Effect relays are eventually rebuilt, the Asari succumb to shame and shrivel up and die, the Turians and Krogan mate to make the perfect warrior race, the Quarians re-settle their world and are promptly forgotten by the galactic populace at large. Javik goes and has himself a big ol' orgy with a bunch of Hanar concubines." SOMETHING! Instead we get the distant-future "The Shepherd" reference, which was clever - but just not enough.

 

Hopefully I'll get more options when I do my second play-through which would give me better closure for the series.

 

 

 

I'm happy with the game, it provided hours of enjoyable gameplay and a lot of epicness. It was just marred by a less-than-satisfying end.

I thought the ending was nice and beautiful but i cant say i liked it much, it was too fast, too many unanswered question, what happens after that exactly etc

I went back and played Mass Effect 2 and just finished it again today. Before that I had completed the requirements to get the commendation pack in the N7: Operation Raptor weekend.

 

 

As I imported them to the single player I kept pondering if it was worth the 75 war assets you receive. I have to admit that 98% of the game was pure awesome. And yes the tiny 2% which were the endings hadn't impressed a lot of fans. Myself included..

I loved this game from beginning to the final rush. *Note final rush not ending* I loved how the story was, but it did get kinda of boring doing chores to get people to help you even with facing this threat that will destroy everything. I disliked the idea that in order to get the perfect ending you must have played the multiplayer, that is a horrible way to make a game. I am one of those people that would burrow the game beat it, and then let my friend burrow the next game that i bought. Basically *He buys ME, I buy ME2, he buys ME3* I understand they want money for the game, but that is just a horrible idea to get people to buy a game.

 

I was extremely upset when i beat the game due to a few factors:

Spring break from college last night home and still haven't beaten it.

Stayed up all night passing out for 2 20min intervals during the final battles on earth. Estimated time of completion: 6am started at 8pm.

Not being full aware of what was going on choice an ending that if I had choice either of the other ones would have done the exact same thing to galaxy.

All that work in all 3 games saving everyone doing all the side missions, didn't buy any dlc *had zaeed forgot how i got him* was a huge slap in the face.

I really do hope they give the fans a proper ending or something to end the series.

 

I forgot where i had read it but when Bioware said with the making of ME3 their would be hundreds of endings "I see only 6 endings"

Yeah, the ending came from out of the blue and made no sense. The game up until then was amazing, as well as the series as a whole. The thing I find most confusing about it is that even up until the month before the release Bioware insisted that the ending would be amazing, and give loads of closure if you had done everything you could. That anyone could say that when knowing what the endings are seems nearly impossible, so as far as I can tell either those making the claims didn't know what the endings really were, or Bioware just wanted to get the game out as quickly as possible and didn't anticipate the huge reaction from fans. Neither option is very promising for the future of Bioware in my mind, and I'm going to be wary of more games by them.

I think that what Bioware meant (or at least how it came out) about the whole "tailor made, loose-end-tying, expansive ending" was just the way each storyline resolved during the playing of ME3. There is a LOT of continuity with that and I was satisfied with how things went with the Krogan/Turian/Salarian conflict, the Geth/Quarian situation, the Rachni, each of your previous companions, etc. When you think of it that way, they delivered what they promised, just during gameplay instead of at the very end.

 

Still want a couple explanations though, cos a few things don't make no goddamned sense:

 

 

1. According to the Arrival DLC in ME2, a Relay exploding means the end of the Star System it's in (and possibly some neighbours)... so mass genocide?

2. Why in the Nine Hells is Joker trying to outrun the blast??

3. With the Relays gone... how the Balls is little ol' Earth supposed to support the entire, combined Galactic Fleet? It's not like they can just pack up and go home any more.

 

 

 

Oh well. We'll see how they handle the issue with future patches/DLC. I still have faith.

1) This is just a fail on their parts cause they clearly over looked this affect. I'm just sticking with the indoctrinated theory until a proper ending comes out. That would be the only possible reason as to why their wouldn't be a mass genocide.

2) If I was him in the fastest ship in the galaxy I'd try to survive something that could kill. Just me :/

I really hope they give the fans a proper ending and something for closure. This is just an awful way to end a series. That would be like star wars coming to end with vader and papaten being conclude, when all of a sudden the Ewoks just destroy everyone and that was how mass effect was created Bull
