Having created this thread on another pony forum a long while back, I thought I'd share this with you guys. I didn't know whether to put it in here or Sugarcube Corner, so... eh

 
This is a really fun thing to do. As many of you probably know, Youtube's audio transcription is absolutely terrible, they hardly get any of the words right. So naturally, watching an episode of My Little Pony with them generates gems of failed transcriptions. Here are a few ridiculous mistranslations I found from watching the first episode. Just imagine a deaf person trying to watch an episode with these subtitles:

 

 

 

Story begins with a sandwich theme...


Twilight is in close proximity of military ponies? That can't be good for her studies... or for "Doctor Baden" and that random wolf.


...Equestria is in Wales? Remind me to book a flight there.


Applejack's second job: spy pony taking down Ponyville's police force.


But what is this? Rarity also has a second job... chief craftswoman of Canada? Must be a long trip from Wales, though I'm surprised Canada isn't more glamorous in this case.


What? I don't even...


First World Dragon Problems: banking issues arise even when you're a baby. He seems surprisingly happy about it...


If anyone's going to burst into a room with a lamp on his head and say the word "terrorists" with a grin on their face, of course it would be Spike. Well, maybe Pinkie Pie too.

What's the first thing Nightmare Moon says in her grand, evil speech? "Unwanted movie executives". Yeah, I'm confused too.

The last two were the funniest because they are the ones that you try to justify as making sense in the context.

 

Perhaps Spike really is talking about/is a terrorist, or Nightmare Moon is a blessing, sent to destroy the unwanted movie executives.

Got some new ones here from Wonderbolt Academy. They're all pretty hilarious.

 

 

 

 

Rainbow Dash = Radon Gas. That's brilliant.

 

So Rainbow arrives at the academy and her first exercise is to recite her favourite names.

 

Grabbing the Nestle? Looks like Rainbow's made friends with a chocoholic... that works in the advertising industry.

 

OH FOR GOODNESS' SAKE.

 

Spitfire... you're drunk. I can't even attempt to make sense out of that.

 

Wait a minute, what? Buckingham Palace is in Latvia? I can see why Spitfire's sending out her recruits to try and find it, this is ridiculous!

 

Pinkie Pie's gratitude towards those who trample on masochists. Hey, we all like mini-morals.

 

Yes, Dashie! She DOES look like Johnny Depp.

Finally, in a stunning climax, Rarity reveals her status as a Trekkie and her support for the Republicans.

The following two images seem particularly  useful for "derailing" threads in their simplicity and few words:

 

And then the "Putting Your Hoof" down one about landmines. I can't get it to copy here.

 

These are funnier than certain Impact font image macros because it is the magic of accidental humor.

 

Even an emotionless audio transcription program wants it to not die out yet.

 

Which reminds me, in the song, they clearly enunciate "Raise this barn". I do not hear anything else even when I try to listen for it.

 

Not that I'm gonna use those to derail threads here; it would be funnier if it just happened somewhere else on the Internet, especially the "terrorists" one because people might not realize that it is from My Little Pony.

I think the Lambda part was Rainbow Dash when she said "Louder". Man, the transcription really has no clue.

Here's some from Swarm of the Century. There was a running theme in this one You'll see what it is.

Fluttershy discovers a new insect and immediately determines it's from the military.


Oh good, the intro song confirms it! Those parasprites must not be very good soldiers if the army is nearing its end.


Twilight orders these two banner-makers to kick the banner that says "Welcome to invest the last". I'd do the same if someone made such a nonsensical banner...


Not only are these parasprites militant fools, but they're selling their weaponry to the ponyfolk! Hopefully nothing bad comes out of that.


Spike's already purchased a knife from them, and is hoping that his buy isn't ridiculous. I know what he means... impulse buying can bite you in the bum later on.


...Okay, what? Dominicans troubled by the press are rightful. So long as they're leaky. Or something. I think that'll be this episode's "wut" moment.


I honestly don't know what to make of this frame. Pinkie appears as the crew are rounding up the parasprites and says "carpets" with an expectant expression. This is en par with Spike bursting into the room to say "terrorists" in the first episode.


Oh, and Equestria is now in Thailand.


Applejack is keen to bring politics into this episode too. "I would like Richard Leakey!" Sorry AJ, but right now we're more concerned with getting the parasprites away.


CELESTIA!!! Don't promote the ponies to learn damage! You're supposed to be setting an example to them, being royalty and all... gosh.

Sometimes it actually makes reasonable lines that aren't the originals, such as the scene in Hurricane Fluttershy where her animals are encouraging her and it says "They're banking on assistance just travel", which is sort of the point of the scene. 

 

Let's go through Sleepless In Ponyville!

 

 

 

 

 

After correctly transcribing "All of that", the transcriber reveals who Rarity's least favorite pony is. Come on Rarity, this was a great episode for Dashie! 

 

 

This is why Applejack is not the element of Loyalty.

Presumably Rainbow Dash's worst nightmare. Also a sensitive thing to say in front of the pegasus who can't fly.

Me and my friend were discussing this over the phone and we think the transcriber program uses tags to determine what the video is about. Since the first episode touched on the subject of terrorists, finance, the military and politics, it therefore applies this template to every other episode.

Here's Applebuck Season for the new year.

What a pleasant way to start the episode. Who knows what a diet of purely apples can do to your system?

Applejack follows the rather stupid advice of her document to injure herself.

Knew it right from the beginning! It was aliens!

Wait, whaaaat? Applejack threatened to tax people? So much for the element of honesty! And why is Pinkie Pie so pleased about it?

Poor Applejack's been working so hard that she's mistaken Twilight for Dashie.

WHAAAAAT?! It was all a ruse! She spent all that time apple bucking to avoid being colonised! And she's thrilled! The element of honesty must have jumped over to Big Mac or something for today...

"Political attack" only confirms that colonisation theory. Pinkie pressures AJ into talking about their concrete reinforcements.

Applejack takes a break from all the scrutiny and hatred and goes out gambling with Fluttershy. Are you sure Discord didn't get you this time around, AJ? That element of honesty is a joke at this point.

That one made my day.  At least they got the part about Spike needing to be smaller right, lol. 

 

One of my best friends is deaf. She's been watching cartoons her whole life and has learned how to generally follow a story without knowing the dialogue. But when possible, I do give her Youtube links that have user added correct captions available. She also happens to be a brony and introduced me to MLP:FiM last year.

 

I have yet to ask her what she thinks about the voice recognition program on Youtube but she'll probably say it's a waste of time instead of finding it humorous. I'm also surprised it's not more accurate considering how good speech transcription software like Dragon is.
