I actually feel a little more comfortable with humans in their world and ponies in their world, too. It also keeps things interesting, so we know we have a pony counterpart in Equestria. Where did Pinkie's foam finger, and novelty glasses with a human nose on them, come from, if humans haven't- at some point- existed amongst them? How did ponies- a peaceful society that stresses and ensures harmony through non lethal means- aquire cannons (though repurposed for shooting confetti and party supplies), or know of vehicles and tools of warfare (Rainbow Dash claiming to want a pet that's "as fast a a bullet", and naming her pet "Tank"), if humans (a far more destructive race) hadn't once existed in their world? Decorative use. A saddle needn't only be used for riding. It could simply be a fashion that occurred. Where did Pinkie's foam finger, and novelty glasses with a human nose on them, come from, if humans haven't- at some point- existed amongst them? There could be any number of explanations - it doesn't necessarily have to mean that humans existed at some point. It could be that perhaps some ponies in the past went through the Equestria Girls portal and interacted with the humans. Although honestly, the simplest explanation is that the show's creators don't really think about that sort of thing sometimes. How did ponies- a peaceful society that stresses and ensures harmony through non lethal means- aquire cannons (though repurposed for shooting confetti and party supplies), or know of vehicles and tools of warfare (Rainbow Dash claiming to want a pet that's "as fast a a bullet", and naming her pet "Tank"), if humans (a far more destructive race) hadn't once existed in their world? The only reason the peaceful side of ponies is mostly shown in the show is because it is a children's show, and so they cannot explore deeper themes. But from what I understand, ponies are really no different from humans. Even without such weapons supposedly not existing - they have been shown to be less than peaceful and perfect. Nightmare Moon attempted to doom the world to an eternal night from which the plantlife and food would most likely die or become scarce. Also, the royal guards are shown with spears. Basic primitive weapons, but weapons none-the-less that could have been reasonably invented by ponies. Don't even get me started on all of the uses one could have for unicorn magic and the dubious magical artifacts (like the Alicorn Amulet) that could exist. It's just really a pet peeve of mine when people claim that ponies are supposedly more peaceful than humans. It only seems that way because of the nature of the medium through which they are presented. I'm sure if ponies could be presented as a more teen-oriented show, they would be just as violent as humans. They have been shown to basically be human in almost every way personality-wise, with the same level of intelligence and sentience, and there's no reason to assume that their problems are any different. I don't think humans ever existed on the planet where Equestria is, with that said. Not everything that is sentient has to be human in fiction and there's room for so many possibilities beyond what we could know. I'm of the opinion that ponies evolved from normal horses just as we humans evolved from apes. And apes? They just stayed stupid silly apes in that world.
